Sometimes I find myself humming some of the km's and try to think of some other religious songs. Only to find that the only one that I kind of know is Amazing Grace and one from the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou". All of my life I have been taught that the other gospel songs are so bad although they are beautiful melodies and now I don't know any of them. Guess I have some learning to do.

Tommy Calls It Quits
by ColdRedRain ini've been receiving messages from brother and sisters asking why i'm deleting my account.
i really did not write my reasons for deleting my account because i don't want anyone to feel obligated to do the same.
fact of the matter is that, i still feel that myspace may very well be a conscious matter.

Can you celebrate your 100th birthday when you are a JW?
by blondie inas a devout jehovah's witness, mrs. merle is prohibited from celebrating her birthday.
but a week from tomorrow, relatives and friends will flock to the camoset village country living mobile home park in johnstown to attend a super bowl party that just happens to feature ice cream and cake.. "that's why we're calling it a super bowl party," explained her son bob merle, 73, who lives just five trailers down the road.
"we don't celebrate birthdays, but we have to celebrate 100 years," said mrs. mechem, 78.

That's why there is "old light" and "new light".
I think that is quite amazing that you think that the holy spirit is so ignorant as to not get it right the first time.

Hope it didn't bother you too bad. My parents were listening on the phone when I looked at it and they laughed at my reaction for a good 10 minutes. It was a great laugh.

Kaput,
"There is no indication"
They don't necessarily know so they assume that they did not do it . But you know what happens when someone assumes something, they become the first three letters of the word.
Just because the Isrealites did or did not do something, does or does not make it right for us. They made a practice of worshipping false Gods even though they were God's chosen people. So, since the Isrealites made a practice of that should we follow that? Rachel stole an idol from her fathers house, making stealing and idol worship okay? There were also temple prostitutes, should we make a practice of that, I know quite a few witness sisters that would qualify? I know many JW's that have tattoos, should a person be expelled for that because the Isrealites did not make a practice of that? The Isrealites men made a practice of wearing dresses and beards, would it then be appropriate for JW's to run around in that manner? Also, the Isrealites practiced polygamy. In fact, King David, who was a man after Jehovah's own heart, practiced adultry, polygamy and murder. Do we then imitate his practices? Lot, a righteous man, had incestuous relations with both of his daughters, would that make it appropriate for fathers to impregnate their daughters? They also made the practice of stoning people, do we make a practice of that?
Our wedding ceremonies are steeped in pagan ritual, more so even than birthdays, yet JW's continue to observe many of these traditions. They, JW's, throw baby showers that are just like a birthday party, there are cakes, punch and gifts for the birth of a child. Is that not a birthday party? There are so many double standards for the JW's the hypocrasy is sickening.
Also, the society has translated things so that it suits their purpose. {I have seen other translations that translated the passage in Job as birthday.} As it has been shown over and over again on this sight. And, the Quotes site, that they were so scared of they sued the guy to remove it.
Like I said if it doesn't suit their purpose it isn't right. At least until next watchtower or maybe the next. But then again, they might decide to change it again after they changed it again after they changed it again, etc.etc.etc. So, long as it suits their purpose.

There are two occasions that birthdays are mentioned in the bible where someone did not get their heads removed.
The first is at Job 1:4 & 5 - And his sons went and held a banquet at the house of each one on his own day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 And it would occur that when the banquet had gone round the circuit, Job would send and sanctify them; and he got up early in the morning and offered up burnt sacrifices according to the number of all of them; for, said Job, "maybe my sons have sinned and have cursed God in their heart." That is the way Job would do always.
In verse 1:1 of Job it call Job blameless and upright, and fearing God and turning aside from bad.
In some transalations the term "his own day" is translated birthday. Job and his children made a habit of recognizing and celebrating "his own day" or birthday.
The second occasion is at Luke 2:8-14 - There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks. 9 And suddenly Jehovah's angel stood by them, and Jehovah's glory gleamed around them, and they became very fearful. 10 Buth the angel said to them: "Have no fear, for, look! I am declaring to you good news of a great joy that all the people will have, 11 because there was born to you today a Savior, who is Christ [the] Lord, in David's city. 12 And this is a sign for you: you will find an infant bound in cloth bands and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there came to be with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God and saying: 14 "Glory in the heights above to God, and upon earth peace among men of goodwill."
There was singing and praises sung on the day of Jesus' birth.
Also, in Matthew 2:2 - saying: "Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we saw his star [when we were] in the east, and we have come to do him obeisance." Matthew 2:10-12 - On seeing the star they rejoiced very much indeed. 11 And when they went into the house they saw the young child with Mary its mother, and, falling down, they did obeisance to it. They also opened their treasures and presented it with gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 However, because they were given divine warning in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another way.
Jehovah allowed people to bring gifts to the baby/child because he was born.
So, there are two occasions that birthdays were celebrated by servants of Jehovah.
I can't see why, when a person has lived 100 years that priviledge should be taken away.
Anyway, the WTBTS was found to be in an approved state in 1919 by Jesus and at that time they were still celebrating birthdays among various other celebrations.

who attends a church now?
by meems101 in.
i'm interested in knowing how many, after leaving, started to attend a church.
if so, what one and how did you decide?
-

No, other church attendance for me. I have had enough of any man or men telling me what is right or wrong. I'll read and figure it out for myself.

When was the last time a witness knocked at your door as a friend, not FS?
by JH in.
although i've been bapized back in 1988, and never was disfellowshipped, the last time a jw came over here as a friend, was about 15 years ago.
oh, and i'm not shunned..... the only witnesses who knocked on my door in the last 15 years, were elders, in "uniform" in the field service.. now, imagine if i was really shunned......

About a month back a MS witness, he was not in FS, came by to ask about our well being. It was nice that he tried to show some concern but when I told him about the UN affair, quoted the new Organized to do Jehovah's will book, and said that we were having doubts he proceeded to call us apostates and ask if we had sent in a letter disassociating ourselves. Then, he said he really shouldn't be listening to what we had to say and left. Since, then we have been shunned numerous times by other witnesses seen at the grocery store, hardware store, etc. Pretty much cleared up any doubts we might have had, though they were very, very few.
