  When do you put a dog down?

  im at my dads house at the moment and they have this dog thats 14 years old, and apparently this brand of dog has an average life expectancy of 10, so shes had a good innings.. now im not a dog owner, so its pretty easy for me to say i think they should put the dog down.

  my dads wife is very sentimental about the dog.

  i would say she was very attached to it, but for all her sentimentality, she has never walked the dog (its always been my dad) and she is not the one who gets up in the night with a mop and bucket - that'd be dad too.

  i ask this question because saki said this in another topic:and i would assume that a lot of people on this board left due to this board alone "proving" the lies of the wts.

  so, it this true or false?

  I stopped attending the meetings before I ever looked at this site. My mom was reading this site and others on a regular basis and she would tell me things that were said.

  It was the Societies and no others fault that I left. They drove me and my family off and I am so glad they did.

  Tick bite/Lyme disease...any experiences with this?

  dear all,.

  my husband came back from a 3 day camping trip in northern il.

  he was fine up until last week.. suddenley, he was so exhausted, achey, and had a constant headache 2 weeks later.

  Sorry to hear that your husband has Lyme's. Hopefully they have caught it soon enough and the treatment he is receiving will clear it up.

  I had Lyme's disease a long time ago. I was bitten on my back and when my mom pulled the tick she noticed that there was a ring. We kept an eye on it and as soon as I felt flu like symptoms they took me to the doctor. They started treatment with an antibiotic and I recovered without lingering effects.

  I hope that this will be the same scenario with your husband. Also, wishing him a speedy recovery.

  i am currently reading steve hassan's book on combating cult mind control and i came across a very interesting point about the difference between brainwashing and mind control.

  brainwashing is a coercive type of control in which a idea is forced on you with little choice.

  people who are brainwashed know they are being indoctrinated; their freedom is cut off.

  I didn't know I was under mind control there. Part of their mind control is they make you think you are as close to happy as you can get.

  I remember the day I decided to finally break the hold. I accidentally stumbled upon a book at the book store that was about secret societies and JW's were mentioned a lot. So, I sat down at the computer and decided to research. My husband told me, "If you go down this road there is no turning back." Well, I went down that road. And very happy I did.

  I thought I was brainwashed. The mind control is worse.

  God's "Spirit Directed Organization"???

  just got back from the district assembly and during the baptism talk the speaker made this statement: "...in association with god's spirit directed organization?".

  now, correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't jr brown (the societies media spokesman) say during an interview that the witnesses do not consider themselves to be "spirit directed"?.

  before i get all mad and outraged about this, would someone either confirm or refute the fact that "brother" brown made this statement?.

  They are playing word games. He said that they do not say they are spirit inspired. However, LDH did ask him once if they believed if they were spirit directed or inspired and Brown did deny it. I did some research on the words, directed and inspired, and they have common synonyms but as always they are getting caught up in the word games.

  They say whatever it takes, we all know that they think that they have a direct chanel with God. This is spiritual warfare, it is okay to lie.

  i got rid of all my led zeppelin (satanic backtracking and all that baloney).

  I never bought much music but I loved Enigma and was told it was bad because it was a bunch of monks singing about sex and drugs. I threw it out. Recently though, we bought it again. I love that CD.

  You will be able to see Mars on 8/27/06

  i received an email that confirmed the following:.

  this month and next, earth is catching up with mars in an encounter that will culminate in the cloest approach between the the two planets in recorded history.

  the next time mars will come this close is 2287. the encounter will culminate on 8/27/06 when mars comes within 34,649,589 miles of earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky.

  curious about the history of the disfellowshipping practice

  a few weeks ago, someone made a comment that the disfellowhipping policy had changed considerably throughout the society's history, with the early organization showing a much gentler attitude toward disfellowshipping.

  it was stated the the society has even used the same scriptures to justify different attitudes toward disfellowshipping.

  has anyone researched this?

  I tried to find some information for you on my 2001 watchtower cd rom but I can't seem to find when this arrangement came into place. I did find a reference in the Proclaimers book.

  Jehovah’s Witnesses were not unaffected by the sexual revolution of the 1960’s. In fact, several thousand—a small percentage of their total number—had to be disfellowshipped each year, the majority for sexual immorality. With good reason, then, Jehovah’s people were given direct counsel at a series of district conventions held in 1964. Lyle Reusch, a traveling overseer originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, recalls the talk "Keeping the Organization of Public Servants Pure, Chaste." Said Reusch: "Frank, straight language on morals spelled things out in plain talk."

  There are a lot of watchtower and awake articles referencing disfellowshipping. From what I have experienced and the 30 years I was in, I have not noticed much of a change in their view. But there are others here who might have a better idea. My father has told me that in the early 70's it wasn't a disfellowshipping offence to practice homosexuality and later that changed.

  I haven't read it yet but the Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz is supposed to have some info on when it came about and why.

  Anyway, I am not much help but thought I would put in what I could find and remember.

  yesterday, my mother, sister, son (3 year old) and i were shunned for the first time by someone that it actually hurt to be shunned by.

  my little brother, who is still a very active jw, told us that he will never see us again.

  he won't speak to us, write us, or communicate with us again.
