Comparing JWs to Jews
by CalebInFloroda insome have asked how my views and convictions have changed over the past 15 years or so after leaving the watchtower behind to return to my familys roots and embrace judaism.
the best way to explain things is to allow both the religion of the watchtower and my life as a jew today to stand side-by-side for comparison.
while i cant guarantee this will help prove to others that the jehovahs witnesses are truly a crazy religious group, i am sure it will prove to most that jews probably are, and are quite aware of it.

Before they admit it, they would have to believe it. They do not. One thing is certain for JW and that is the 144,000 is a smaller number than great crowd (no man was able to number.).JW basis is for doctrine is that 144,000 is a definite number.
I think that the GB could eventually change the teaching and say that the 144,000 is symbolic and still keep the 2 classes. The 144,000 would just be a significantly smaller number than the great crowd. But they don't have to make any changes in the doctrine until around 2034.

You're right Dedorio, JWs have been waiting 140 years for Armageddon and they will forever be there waiting.
on the other hand jw are growing STRONGER, BIGGER IN NUMBERS,
HAPPIER, JOYFUL, STRESS FREE, in every country, tongue, and nation on all four corners of the planet earth!1-2% growth in the last several years is not indicative of major growth. Many countries, like Australia, actually have decreases. You should check your facts. The yearbook easily shows how little growth there is.

The difference in language is something that I struggle with too. Many of those that I work and sometimes hang out with (college educated people) feel the need to curse like sailors at times. I still struggle with accepting expletives as part of normal language and using them myself. When I'm reading something online to my wife, I routinely change curse words to something less vulgar even though I know she doesn't have a problem with the curse words. I can see how this serves to keep us separate, create a barrier between us and non-JWs, and gives us a superiority complex.
Interestingly, an elder in my hall was assigned overseas for many years and sh*t was used locally as the non-vulgar word, but caca or poop were seen as vulgar. He had to get used to using sh*t in everyday language.

he had just moved to my area from another state.
he had disassociated himself from his home congregation many years back, when he was 20 years old and going through many of the typical trials and temptations most young men experience.. two of the elders met with him initially, and they later shared the details with the body of elders.

Chapter 11 par 3 of the Flock book states:
3. The committee should be careful to allow sufficient time, perhaps many months, a year, or even longer, for the disfellowshipped person to prove that his profession of repentance is genuine.
It doesn't specifically say 6 months, but it's obviously implied that 6 months would be a minimum. In the last decade, I've not seen anyone reinstated in anything less than a year.During the time I was df'd, I did research about the time between writing of 1 Cor and 2 Cor and I had hoped that since the letters were written in the same year and that my sin couldn't be any worse than the one mentioned in 1 Cor 5 that I would be reinstated in less than a year.
Nope, didn't happen.

BTW, it's this same policy along with some other destructive policies (higher ed, child abuse) that will eventually lead to me no longer attending as well. I'm going for now to keep up appearances and to allow me to introduce my wife to the darker side of WT. I know if I quit cold turkey that she'll no longer view me as her spiritual head and I'll lose an important advantage. If it becomes clear that I've hit an impasse, I will fade on my own.
DA for me is not the answer as I'd forever lose any ability to inject doubt to family/friends. I don't want to play by their rules and give all my friends/family an out for not associating with me.
