it seems like jws more than most would be or could soon be dependent upon some form of government largesse (medicaid, social security, welfare, food stamps....) far beyond their own contribution to the till, as it were.

A - Some immigration is good when it is good for us.

B - We can and should defend ourselves from people trying to get here illegally and the parasites who employ them ought to be punished.

C - Illegals get free school and medical care. This and the cavalier attitude about things like illegal entry, identity fraud, phone fraud, what have you creates the sense of entitlement that we all saw on display during the immigration bill debate. This made everybody a lot angrier than necessary but I think that was the idea. It is a fact, though, all of us who don't get the benefit from the cheap labor subsidise it. Hi Tech employers also wanted a lot more visas tucked in for foreign tech workers. What, we have a shortage - well yes, of ones that are willing to work cheap after blowing thousands on college tuition. Then again, who needs college.

D - That bill was bad because the enforcement end was a mirage and it rewarded people for doing wrong. I might have supported it if some things were different. As it was it was a sot to businesss interests. The Z visa was a patently unfair line-jump that should never be approved. I know people who have been waiting for years for family-based visas that are not second-preference family cases. Fair is fair.

E - Rascist, yes, to some extent. It is a given that uncontrolled non-White immigration is generally not good for White people or Black People, or Brown people, particularly those who are not part of the wealthy elite. That said, this is at its root, a class issue, which you with your Russian Soviet-era icon might appreciate, and not a racial one. It is manipulated into a racial one by the ruling elite. So, in that sense, it is rascist. The most vehemently anti-illegal people I have ever met are Latinos who are here legally.

F- There are lots of white illegals and Asian illegals, with more to come. They will do crap work too and are not as high-maintainance as S. and C. Americans. Why - see section C.

What made me think they were illegal - I doubt I was wrong but maybe I was. Clothes, shoes, and demeanor mostly - I used to work for La Migra and in that part of town on Saturday AM early that looked like that and no apparent English they were most likely illegally here. That is how we used to catch them, back when that sort of thing was actuallly done.

So illegals have JW privleges - again with the child molester thing I guess what I asked was a dumb question in the first place. If they think they can get something out of you I guess you can do as you please until you cease to be useful. Ain't different from anything else. Forgive the stupid question, people.

How is theis looked at in the org?

There is also the subject of illegal aliens here in the US. Not necessarily everybody, but Non tax paying, identity fraud, burden on society ones, on food stamps and welfare from day one. (There are plenty - I know, I was an INS officer for many years.....). I remember getting coffee in Los Angeleson Saturday once with a buddy and I saw a family of four JWs, looked as illegal as anything walking with their gigantic Spanish bibles and watchtowers with their noses up in the air, walking down the street among us sinners like a pageant. I almost spat my coffee out in laugther. They looked utterly ridiculous and clearly not supposed to be there. Is being basically a criminal OK in the Truth?

Religions similar to JWs.

does anyone know of any religions that are very similar to jehovahs witnesses?.

it tends to come up in discussions with them a lot, they like to think that they are the only ones that don't believe in hell, the trinity, that jesus died on a stake, that they won't go to heaven, or stuff like that.

i could probaby just prove them wrong, but that would take forever and it would be a lot easier to just say: "you're not as unique as you think...".

Just got back from the Public Talk/WT study......very disappointed

so i finally went back to the sunday meeting after missing it for over a month.

i've been to the tms/service meeting a couple of weeks ago by the way, but i've consistently missed the one for sunday.. i dreaded going, but i think i will go to the sunday meetings every couple of weeks for a while.

between my dad and another factor, i think it will be best to go that route for a while.

Living, not wading through scriptures to "prove" one doctrine is true and another is false. Meanwhile, life is passing us by!!

Exactly - we need to regulate our behavior to follow Jehovah and keep in his word but we also need to know when to leave it alone. "I want mercy, not sacrifice..." - Watchtower has done a lot of good but also a lot of bad. I have been listening to the latest DC talks and I cannot believe the shrill tone and eerie unrealism of the content - more on shunning, more on don't question the FDS, more, more, more.

I acutally went to the KH yesterday and heard the talk - we actually had a good speaker. WT study was actually pretty good as there are some smart people in this congregation.

You know, I try and try - I like most of the teachings, agree with many of them, but the love is just not there and I don' t need one more prying authoritarian institution in my life.

New Light Coming?

hi - i have jw friends (really!

) and have gone to kh for some talks and study every couple of weeks.

things like the new watchtower policy, selling buildings (i am from nyc and know the heights well - that will make a boatload of money), the sex abuse settlements, drop in membership and donations, and some of the changes i have seen in the magazine (the annointed qfr, for example).

Furthermore - WT like a lot of religions makes great claims about being God's channel to reveal his will to earth. So how come no new revelations, even little ones? Just the same/same every minute of every day. There has got to be something more and I think people will know that.
