I sing in a Barbershop Quartet. Any other singers ?
by rwagoner inmy favorite stress management tool (besides being goofy with my kids) is singing in a barbershop quartet.
just 4 voices...ringing harmonies....i know its old fashioned and sappy but i like it.. any other old..or young farts out there that sing barbershop....or other styles too?.
how does music and being able to express yourself with it effect your life?.

I play the piano and sing with a group that goes to places like hospitals, nursing homes, homeless shelters, and to where tragedies have struck - we went to Columbine after the school shootings, to 9/11 remembrances - we usually do sing alongs, just to bring some happiness to others and help them away from their troubles.
Music brings people together in a happy way! -

What do you do when this board isn't enough?
by MsMcDucket insometimes, i find myself sitting alone in the house.
i don't have very many friends, because of the troof.
i'm a introverted person anyway.

Finally free makes a good point. Sometimes we just need companionship, rather than friendship in the taditional sense. I have a talking bird too, he can be a great pal, specially when I feel like I don't WANT to be around people! Makes me laugh too. And his incessant noise often drives me out of the house to more productive things.
MsMcDucket, life does become easier when count your blessings and get out of the house to any of the suggestions here.....but leave your own baggage at home!

Why feel sad for them,,, They're doing what they want to do and what they believe in. I think they probably left feeling sad for you.

I do love the person who introduced me to the Bible, brought me to the truth, I'm grateful to that person and others. Even if one has strayed from the truth or lost their faith, it's no reason to blame or hate the messenger.
We shouldn't hate anyone... Jesus teaches us to forgive and be forgiven -

I think if you take it in the purest form - a celebration of the fall harvest and giving thanks for the food grown and provided by the Creator - it's good. Gathering to show thanks to the one providing the food and enjoying a meal together with family and friends is a positive experience.
Of course, that could be done on any day, not just one designated by ... whomever?????
The decorating part, I think you should allow your children to participate, particularly if it's a creative exercise for the children.
The thing I don't get about the day is the turkey thing. I hope you'll teach your children not to call it "turkey day". They still need solid principles and they need to know why participating in commercialism and idolatry is wrong, but you seem capable of teaching them the difference.

Please excuse the interruption again......
Seeking Knowledge, there was no offense taken! I fully understand your concern, it was good that we could each clarify how we feel about it. It seems we're in agreement in advising MrsJG to get as much information as possible.

Find out if there's a qualified brother or sister in your congregation who can discuss and help you with your confusion about the blood issue, that's who helped me with it.
Qualified how?? Because they are taught from a medical school as to the pros & cons of a blood transfusion?? Did they have MD after their name & a diploma to back it up? Or qualified as in someone who is a JW and because of that is an expert on the topic??
Seeking Knowledge, as clarification, all of the above. I first familiarized myself with scientific and medical facts, then talked to an MD and an RN in our cong who had both been trained and worked in the field of "bloodless surgery", I might add that they avail themselves to other congregations too. The same people were knowledgeable in the scriptures and JW doctrines on the subject. I would also add that several serious surgeries were successfully performed on me without the use of blood (by a Jewish MD, btw, who respected my wishes). So, in my opinion, the qualifications should be 1) medical education 2) medical experience and 3) Bible knowledge.
