I started pioneering right after I graduated high school. I did it because it was expected and I didn't have anything else going on. (I was working full time - but that was it)

I completed my first year and by default entered my second year. My heart wasn't in it. I didn't believe in it, I never prayed in my life, I knew that I just didn't have the right "heart-condition", my days out in service were seemingly endless, and I was sick about it. I never had any productive calls (I couldn't bring myself to encourage anyone to join). I used to show up 2-3 minutes before every service meeting - so that if a brother wasn't present I wouldn't have to conduct and say the prayer (I was afraid because I never prayed myself)

I spoke with the elders about my feelings and not praying. I told them I didn't believe it was the truth and had serious questions and a total lack of spirituality and faith. They told me they understood, but that it was important to continue in Jehovah's work. I cried and said that I needed help to be a better person and they said that they couldn't meet with me for a few months because they were busy with others in the hall who had a greater need (my dad was an elder, and as an elders daughter I guess I wasn't taken that seriously) They wouldn't honor my request to be taken off the list, they felt it would be better if I continued so Jehovah could help me.

After that meeting, my non-right-conditioned-heart was broken. I stopped making my hours and thought this would force them to deal with me. No such luck. After a few months went by they met with me again and agreed to take me off the list. That was it.

So I just faded and no one checked on me.

Court Puts Woman's Stoning on Hold

LAGOS (Reuters) - A Nigerian sharia court of appeal has ordered a stay of execution for a woman sentenced to be stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage, despite her contention that she was raped, officials said Monday.

The court granted the stay to allow Safiya Hussaini, 33, a divorced mother of five, to appeal her sentence by a lower sharia court in the northwest Sokoto state.

Hussaini said the court had imposed the sentence after she asked it to force a man who she said raped her three times and impregnated her to pay for her infant daughter's naming ceremony.

She said that when she was pressured by her family to charge the man with rape, the court dismissed the charges against him, citing a lack of evidence because she was the sole witness.(remind anyone of a particular religion?) Instead they charged the divorced Hussaini with "adultery" and sentenced her to death in mid-October. She was given 30 days to appeal.

The judgement has sparked international outrage and could lead to a constitutional showdown between the central government, which has threatened to intervene, and regional authorities.

"The judge said the execution should be put on hold until the final determination of the woman's appeal by the higher court," Sokoto state spokesman Nasirdeen Abubakar said by telephone from Sokoto, the state capital.

Officials declined to comment further on the case, saying they did not want to be charged with contempt by the court.

They had said Hussaini was sentenced to death because she was divorced. Had she never been married, the sentence would have been 100 lashes.

The federal government has said it will not allow the sentence to be carried out but officials in Sokoto said the federal government had not contacted them about the sentence.

An appeal does not necessarily guarantee a stay. In January a 16-year accused of having premarital sex was given 100 lashes despite her pending appeal of the sentence. She also said she was raped.

Hussaini is the first person to be sentenced to death since 1999, when regional governments first introduced the strict sharia code in predominantly Muslim parts of northern Nigeria.

The introduction of sharia has been highly controversial in Nigeria, where it has been introduced in more than a third of the 36 states. There were two bouts of riots in the northern Kaduna state over plans to introduce sharia. More than 1000 people died in the first riot in February 2000.

Angry parents from the Corowa public school demanded action when some children arrived home in tears after a reserve teacher, on her first day on the job, told them their parents brought their presents.

"Santa Claus has always visited our house at Christmas," mother Vanessa Lohse told the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

"My three kids (aged five, six, and eight) don't believe Santa is real now -- it's really put a damper on Christmas."

The school's headmaster Ian Paynter referred complaints about the incident to the New South Wales education department.

"She was a casual teacher but she won't be coming back," a department spokesman told Reuters.

"(She) was not disciplined but did receive counseling about the age appropriateness of responses to children's questions."

The spokeswoman said the education department had no formal position on Santa Claus but advised teachers to tell students to ask their parents when questions about Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy arose.

The teacher, who usually takes high school students, could not be reached for comment.

My dad's response to the 'Cow' article......

earlier in isp's thread, someone posted a reprint of a 1952 wt article likening women to cows.. i cut and pasted the whole article to my dad as well as my sister and a jw friend who continues to talk to me despite my being labeled apostate.. i did not change any words, only highlighted or bolded the sentences that i thought were especially outrageous.. i sent the article under the 'guise' of a lighthearted joke to this sister, and telling her she needs to do her wifely duty and bear children to her husband.. a few minutes ago, i received this response from my dad.. lisa, .

i don't understand your purpose in sending me e-mails of a 40-year old article from the watchtower that i already have access to if i chose to spend the time to look it up.

i can sense from your "subject" and the high-lighted portions of the article that your intent was perhaps to riducule the counsel, especially the comparison of a young girl to a cow.

I would venture to say that, this same article would NOT be printed today, regarldless of the 'correct' information it may contain. The light, has, in effect, gotten brighter, no? Even a stopped clock is right two times a day. That doesn't mean you go running back to look at it on the off chance you hit it when it's those two times.
