Illustration of burning cities while JW's rejoice?
by gaiagirl ini remember once seeing an older watchtower publication, i believe it was a study book from the late '60s or early '70s, in which one illustration showed a city with large buildings in the background, all burning and in ruins.
in the foreground, a group of well-groomed jw's smile joyously and raise their arms in praise to jehovah, apparantly thanking him for destroying civilization, but at least allowing them to live.
the picture was a little unsettling at the time, and now with the threat of terrorism, even more so.. does anyone remember which publication this image was from?

Yes! We had a great time! I see a great friendship in our future! We will definitely be getting together again. (And thanks for putting any rumors to rest before they start!)
Special K ... the dog did not jump on us at all, but he didn't really have a chance. The kitties, however, were quite friendly ... and beautiful! ( I love cats!) We even eyed the iguana for a bit while we visited!

It depends on what your definition of terrorist is ... here is Merriam Webster's definition:
Main Entry: ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
- ter·ror·ist/ -&r-ist / adjective or noun
- ter·ror·is·tic/ "ter-&r-'is-tik / adjective
Main Entry: ter·ror
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French terreur, from Latin terror, from terrEre to frighten; akin to Greek trein to be afraid, flee, tremein to tremble -- more at TREMBLE
1 : a state of intense fear
2 a : one that inspires fearKinda scary to think about it when you look up the definition.
But what people now-a-days typically think of when they hear "terrorist" is probably quite different ... to which JWs have few, if any, similarities.

by Lehaa indo you ever get used to bumping into witnesses that you know.. i still go out in with the thought of it tin the back of my mind.

I am not disfellowshipped, so I usually talk to them and say hello, unless it was someone I didn't like anyway! I have had several be vrey rude and almost run! They look so foolish and everyone around sees it! I have also had several tell me how much they miss me! I always tell them they can come and see me anytime! I have yet to have someone ask WHERE I live!
P.S. Unless it is an elder ... I NEVER tell an elder he can come and see me! I have had a couple ask if they could, and believe it or not, I actually had the guts to politely tell them "no!"

I read part of the manual and it really made me laugh! Here is a quote:
First of all, we should appreciate that Jehovah God is the Great Theocrat. We recognize him as supreme and we have full faith that he is directing his organization through his Son, Jesus Christ. We should realize that organization instructions come from the head down and not from the bottom up.
Personally, I think the instructions just come from their head being up their bottom!
Continuation of quote:
We who are young and new in these homes certainly want to find our right place in the organization and be contented. We should have confidence in Jehovah's organization and that Jehovah places the members in thebody or organization as it pleases him. We should be delighted to do whatever is required.
Those poor uneducated kids/slaves!
It made me feel kinda sick reading it, but it also gave me quite a chuckle!
Other funnies:
We believe that everyone in the Bethel home is working to advance the interests of the Kingdom. We will keep on believing that unless someone proves otherwise. "By their fruits you will recognize them."Matt. 7:16.
Anyone up for the challenge? It's not hard!
Men are given places of responsibility, and those placed in such positions should be respected by all. The women should always keep their proper place and recognize Jehovah's arrangement as to their position in His organization.
Okay ... that one is not funny. That one makes me mad!

Curious.......
by cameo indon't know if this has been asked before (and sorry if it has).
this is for all the "born-into" former witnesses:.
if you hadn't been born into the religion, do you think you would have become a witness sometime in your life?

Wild_Thing
Unfortunately, I will never know. I would hope not. I think people who were "born into it"are far more screwed up by the organization than people who were in at a later time in their life.

I finally got my JW sister out of my house today ... for good. She has been living/loafing/freeloading in my house for a full year now. The rest of my JW family came to help her move. An elder and his wife from the local congregation came and helped her move, too.
While they were there, they engaged in the usual JW bullsh*t conversations. The elder's wife was talking about the latest circuit overseer visit and saying how wonderful it is that he liked children. She said he wanted children to accompany him in going door-to-door, and she mentioned that is often unusual in circuit overseers. She said the circuit overseer said he wanted children going door-to-door with him because they are "great door openers". My stomach turned. I guess that's what that nice circuit overseer thought of me too, when I was a kid.
