Saturday mornings, listening for my parents to get up for field service...hoping they'd stay in bed. Stepping into the drafty Hall with it's very wierd, unsettling vibes, always spooky to me. Being so tired on a school night and having to wait around on my dad to come out of another late elder's meeting, trying to finish homework in the car under the streetlight. Forcing myself to chat up phony-friendly people to kill time till we could go home. Being instructed to make at least two comments at the Witchtower study, or dad would be SO disappointed I wasn't setting the example for the other kids; freezing up when the microphone(specially priveleged)guy came, and I couldn't think of anything deep and spiritual to wow them with. Bookstudy groups, where it was even harder to avoid participating cuz there were only 10 people there and five were snoring! Getting the evil eye for lip syncing the songs. Boredum! Always daydreamed how the speaker might look naked.

WHAT DUB THINGS WILL YOU NEVER FORGET?
by Mary innow as much as no one wants to admit it, we all know that there are things we learned in the borg that we'll never forget even if we live to be a hundred.
what is something that you know you'll always remember (despite your best efforts to forget!
for me, it's matthew 24:14 and the names of the three hebrews thrown into the firey furnace (shadrach, meeee-shack and a-bed-we-go)

info about selling houses and pioneering right before 1975???
by bitemeWT ini seem to remember a kingdom ministry (or was it a watchtower?
) that praised the bros. for selling their houses and using the last few years of "this old system of things" to pioneer... right before 1975. does anyone know which one it was?.
i need it for a ebay person that is calling their fellow bros and sis idiots if they thought that armageddon was coming in 1975.

"Many marvelous priveleges" bla-bla = passing the microphones when someone gets elbowed to comment, cleaning the Hall on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, parking lot attendant, timing talks/buzzer-presser. etc. My parents turned down scholarship opportunities for me, but I'm so thankful they didn't bite for selling the house and pioneering till the end, cuz they'd be homeless now and still pounding the sidewalks!

Skirting the issue
by Virgogirl inwhat argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.

So, maybe this is one of those things where they have taken a stand and don't know how to back down from it? Maybe "new light" will come to a dressing room in Brooklyn soon!

Exactly, lol! So a woman in a nice pantsuit at the Hall really wouldn't be adorning herself in the garb of a male, because males don't wear pantsuits!

Mine seldom spanked me, but when he drank, he was verbally abusive and said cruel things sometimes that made me cry. At the Hall he was distant because he was too busy with important elder matters and meetings in the back room.

I've had great fares from Airfare.com and Airgorilla. Better than Travelocity.

Well, we are all born without any clothes on at all! I just don't see where God would be impressed by what clothing mere humans put on. That can't be what's important. I do agree it's disrespectful to be sloppy in a place of worship, whether that would be in hygiene, behavior or clothing. However, I have some navy, gray and black pantsuits that are more dignified than some of my dresses and in my opinion, I look more dressed up in them. As others have said, we just don't understand why there's no consistency to this rule. Seems like a case of "adding to the word" the opinions of men. When I argued this point with the elders and they ran out of reasons, it usually came down to, "because we say so!"

Breaking off an engagement may get him in hot water at Bethel too, leading to further opening of the eyes! Isn't a promise to marry, as good as being married, and not to be reneged upon lightly? )So they would reason, in their ignorance of the circumstances.) Could be just the ticket!
