Are you sure about that figure? I know at least a half dozen...could probably think of a few more if I tried.

Ok.... I had to buy something today at a department store. I was paying cash. As the clerk was ringing up the sale, she said "phone number please". I asked why she needed my phone number. She said that they use it to put me on the mailing list. I said well you can't mail it to my phone number... are you going to call me when you have a sale?!! She turned red... I told her I don't give out personal info.... it wasn't a problem...and it didn't get unpleasant or anything..I did it with a smile... but as I stood there, I heard other customers readilly give out their number. This has happened a number of times...It kind of alarms me.... on a couple of levels. First, I think it's rude to expect someone to just give out that info... I can see if I was writing or check...or even using a credit card. I wasn't... I paid cash. End of transaction. The other thing is the gathering of info in data bases that track my purchases and sell that info to who knows who. I'll track my own purchases, thank you very much. I don't think it's anyone's business how I spend the money I earn.
Ok... I feel better now... anyone else feel this way?

i'm on the activities committee of my company, so i am in on the planning.
we want to make the party lots of fun.
i'm looking for some more ideas..... here's what we have so far.:.
Thanks guys... I'll run some of these ideas past the rest of the group. We used to have the Christmas party at the Parker House in Boston....very classy and very expensive. We have about 30% more people now though...so we scaled back. Should still be nice, but not what it used to be. We can't call it a Christmas party anymore either...have to be pc...so it's a holiday party. Figures... I finally get to go To Christmas parties...and I can't even call it what it is.

in my area, in the last year, there has been six people killed in three separate accidents by someone over the age of 70. in two cases, the elderly people lived while the other drivers did not.
in one case the elderly person was killed, as well as the people they hit.
of the six people killed, two were children under the age of five.
My aunt is 83 and drives perfectly...she also works full time, and is more with it than most people in their 60s. I think it varies from person to person....but since you have to be fair, I think at 65 or so there should be testing....and when it's time to renew the license they should be tested. each time...and the license should have to be renewed more often with each passing decade, until one reaches their 80s, and then it should be every year. I know that's stressful for an elderly person, but driving is a priviledge, not a right, and there have to be standards. Public safety has to be considered.

on my street, someone already started puting up their christmas decorations.
i find that a little early, but that's their business .
how about you, when do you start puting them up?
Right after Thanksgiving. The first time I got to celebrate I put the tree up before Thanksgiving...and left it up 'till February! Had a lot of catching up to do! I didn't want the season to end. Now it's usually right after New Years

Here's what we have so far.:
..we have the facility...and the food...pasta and finger food stations. We'll have a Santa who will give everyone a present. (really nice necklaces for every lady...gourmet chocolates for men) Each table will have a centerpiece that will also be given as a prize. (they're really beautiful) There will also be gag gifts. We will have a DJ, and most likely a karaoke machine. There will be a cash bar...but the first couple of beers or glasses of wine will be free. There will be dancing...but judging from past years, it's tough to get anyone to dance. We want the party to be lots of fun this year. Last years' party was a dud. My bf doesn't want to go this year, and I can't blame him one bit.
150 to 200 people...employees and spouses...no kids.
Any ideas?

We had one that would make anonymous phone calls to report everything from a short skirt to an overheard conversation. I found out years later who it was when she let something slip in front of my best friends.
There was another one who thought it was her duty to critique my clothes & hair.... so my dad (the elder) informed her that she was not the spiritual policewoman she perceived herself to be...and that if she had something to say about my manner of dress, that she was to come to him....because he thought I looked great.... I was there to hear the whole conversation.... Yey dad!

its wednesday evening, i'm alone and in need of distraction and am curious about my new and old fellow posters.
so i was wondering if you would reveal what makes you different from the next person in terms of your hobbies.
what are little known facts about you?
I love to travel, read, draw, paint or anything creative, walk in the country, cook, spend time with my bf and my kids & grandkids....
Here are a couple of pieces of my artwork.
Hmmmm...I don't know if it worked...testing testing.... or if they will show up... I think you have to click on them to enlarge...they're pretty small....if they do show up....... I've done this before to post my son's artwork...but it's been a while and it seems different. here goes....

a certain catholic xjw (jeff schwem) and i have been following the same blog for several months.
in this blog, the young woman has been documenting her conversion to jwism.
i have not always been so kind in my comments as jeff has been, but i have been honest.
Most people have no idea how to approach a jw or challenge their beliefs. Most Christians do know that jws do not believe in the trinity, so that is what they start with....they mean well, but that's not a good starting point.

funny, the longer i go on, especially with the "new eyes", normal becomes fiction.
there is no real normal, but there is acceptable and unacceptable.
hurting others, that would be unacceptable.. next week i'll be going home, as in home where i grew up and learned the truth and learned what it means to judge, criticise, back stabb, lie, cheat, and cover over things when i'm too weak to face them for what they are.
I kept waiting for it to be fixed too....and it only got worse. I stuck it out for over a decade from the time I started having doubts. When my daughter was 13 she kept asking me were the love was...'cause it wasn't there....and she would say "isn't love supposed to be the identifying mark?"... The longer I stuck it out, the more obvious it became....that it cannot be what it is claims to be. No possible way.
