new york - jehovah's witnesses are renowned for teaching that jesus is not god and that the world as we know it will soon end.
Does anyone know if there has been any reaction from Brooklyn?

i would be interested to be able to look up references made from now unavailable literature, does anyone know of a library that contains them?
by the way i am in england.
its not that i doubt the many quotaions i have seen, but its frustrating to not see them in the flesh.
I used to have a nearly complete library. I sold some...the rest is in boxes in my daughter's house in Florida. I'm in MA. You're right...it's great to be able to confirm from the original publications. It helped me immensely when I wa on the way out. Try Randy's site at Freeminds. He has some of the old stuff for sale. Sometimes they even pop up on Ebay...

my firstborns son's mother i live with asked me today if i wanted anyone else.. i replied "yes, i want to know every unmarried woman on earth, so i can insure i will never feel like i missed out on something.
i want to find my match, a woman that can convince me to give up my free agent status, and spend forever as her property alone.
she got really mad.
The m word is scary for women too. I like my life the way it is right now...and I love my freedom. My bf & I spend time together, but we don't live together... not a single fight in 5 years. It works for us. I had a terrible marriage and it cost me plenty in every way imaginable. and I don't ever want to repeat that.

Men Are Just Happier People-- What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5000. Tux rental-$100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck.
You can play with toys all your life. Your belly usually hides your big hips. One wallet and one pair of shoes one color for all seasons.
You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache..
You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.
No wonder men are happier.
was this just a local arkansas thing or were jw's everywhere getting jiggy at the skating rink?
we used to have awesome skating parties and witnesses from 150 miles away would come sometimes.
or sometimes we would drive that far to go to one.
Yep...at the rink in Milton, MA...later in Braintree or Quincy. Every Sunday night through the winter.

freedomlovers post about her dads letter got me thinking about my dad, in fact, it sounds like it could have been written by my dad.
every once in a while it really hits me that he is no longer here to talk to.
unlike most of you, i wouldnt have been afraid to approach him with questions or doubts.
Hi Wombat,
Let me know how it goes... glad you enjoyed it.

i posted this in another thread but it is more relevant here.
i worked for jw doing back breaking work for a while only to be told by another jw that he was ripping me of - he was paying me half the going rate.
i was only 17 and naive didn't know anything about the world of work.
When my dad was having our house built, he hired a jw contractor to do the framing. My dad was very hands on, and showed up on the jobsite unannounced. He found them burning 2x4s to keep warm (it was early spring) There was not a single stud that was square. He had them tear it all down and hired another company to do it right.
When our kingdom hall was being built in the late 50s (which he designed) there were very few who would actually show up to work. Dad would be there long into the night...working all alone. If there was going to be pictures taken, all of a sudden they came out of the woodwork to be seen helping.
