Hi Odie,
My grandparents married in 1908 and became involved with the bible students in 1910. Where are you from? There are people on this board from nearly everywhere. It is possible that someone may know your family.

my grandfather and grandmother were married in 1910. my grandfather became involved with the church in 1911, but my grandmother refused.
they had 4 children all forced to attend against their will until the time that my grandfather had no choice but to accept their refusal.. old family notes have my great grandparents also involved when the members were called bible students.. being unfamiliar with the practices i have a number of questions that i am hoping someone may be able to answer.. isn't it unusual to have one spouse following this faith while the other rebels?
with my grandfather forcing his children to attend, does this usually mean they were baptized and became members?

i'm reading some books wrtitten by greg.
i just wonder how you think of his thoughts.
thanx in advance for your comments.
Gumby,
Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm not here much during the day... Yes, Jesus did say to feed His sheep. You don't need an organization or a printing press for that. It can be done one on one...sharing one's faith... Jesus did not set up an organization while He was on earth. He simply taught...drew crouds wherever he went. He told his followers quite simply to spread the word. His church consists of those who follow Him. That's what "Christian" means. He didn't dub (excuse the pun) any of His disciples "elder" or "ministerial servant" etc. In fact He said that the least among you will be the greatest.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy going to Church. However, my salvation does not depend on any church, or any group of humans. They can't give salvation, or take it away. My focus is my relationship with God. I talk more about God than I ever did as a JW. I don't ever force my opinions on anyone. My words are never scripted by a JW outline. They come from the heart.
Gotta' run...have to go to work

Jesus said "Where 2 or more are gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst." That doesn't sound like a big organization to me. Being a Christian is about following Christ...having a relationship with God based on Him, not an organization. I have enjoyed attending different churches, but I don't attend regularly. I don't consider them necessary for me to have faith. or a relationship with God. If all churches disappeared off of the planet tomorrow, my faith in God would still be intact.
What has happened in so many churches is that they eventually acquire power, and mixing that power and authority with spirituality corrupts the whole thing. They end up becoming the opposite of what Jesus intended. Then everyone involved tries to justify the actions and the power center of the organization, changing the focus from God to man. They miss the whole point.

if you've left all your family and friends for "the truth" and then you realize how everything you did was for nothing, how do you just go back, especially, if it's been 25 years???
my wife is going thru this dillema right now.
my daughter just went to a family member's birthday party for the 1st time yesterday and my wife feels as though she is unable to be involved because "what will the family think of her after all the birthdays and celebrations" she missed?
I was raised in the borg, and for that reason, had a distant relationship with members of my mom's side of the family who were never jws. I am now having a great time getting to know them. They are not judgemental, and don't hold it against me at all because I was raised in it and had no choice. With my parents dead, and having no siblings, it is really nice to have a second chance at sharing family events and the history I missed out on for so long.
I think family members will just be glad to resume the relationship you once had. Don't let the borgs' viewpoint prevent you from sharing your life with the family that is rightly yours.

as my name suggests, i'm from nyc.
i've lived in every borough of new york and spent time at most of the local congregations until i finally decided that it was all for nothing (my recent posts on this forum explain why).
during this time, i noticed an interesting pattern - the jws only preach in poor to middle class neighborhoods.
We went door to door in some pretty affluent neighborhoods. That's when we got to pick out the homes that would be ours after the big A. Coffee
i need some watchtower articles stating ,the only people who will make it into the new system are jws.my husband keeps saying that jws dont even know who will make it.i know he is lieing and i tell him that he must love himself alot to want to forget his family to live in the new system without us.he also asked me what is the difference if he went to church?he says they are trying to get to heaven.anyone who can help answer these i can use all the help i can .i told him even if i believed the jws.barf,i would not want to be one .i would rather die with my family.
thanks kls
Actually, most people don't go to church to get to heaven. They go to worship. Most churches do not teach that church attendence will get them to heaven. They teach that a personal relationship with God through Christ is what saves you. I once heard a pastor say "if I ever tell you that I am necessary for your salvation, I want you to get up and run, don't walk to the nearest exit". No human individual or organization can give salvation...or take it away. Coffee
in my ongoing research to discover "if" and "where" the watchtower society (jehovah's witnesses) may be connected to, or engaging in, mutual support with other religious bodies, i am discovering some interesting links ... i thought you may find this one of particular interest: .
a person who disconnects is simply exercising his right to communicate or not to communicate with a particular person.
this is one of the most fundamental rights of man.
Just a side note: FYI CAN (Cult awareness network) is now owned and operated by the scientologists. If you call them for help, you will talk to a practicing scientologist, not a counsellor.

this is to ask whether any of you out there have first-hand knowledge of lives possibly lost ( i say possibly because any such procedure isasmittedly fraught with risks) because of the 13-year jw transplant ban..
Yes, my Dad. He died in 1978...and 2 years later they changed the policy.

the reason i ask this question is because when i became a jw i had 3 little children who relied on me for everything, including making the right medical decisions for them.. it really terrifies me when i think back to that time because i was so committed (i should have been actually) that i use to send my kids to school with the 'no blood' card hanging around their necks...........omg.
i also filled in all their medical forms with 'no blood' in the 'special instructions' box.. well, since then, many bad things have happened to me and my family at the hands of the borg and individual dubs.
also, many other things have come to light (not their light) that has proven the wts wrong and dangerous.
It wasn't the blood policy, but the policy on organ transplants... My dad didn't have a transplant because of the wt policy. Two years after his death, they changed the policy.
