We had the white shirts only rule (for men of course).
We also had the "if an elder gets caught molesting his grandchildren, he will not be reported to the authorities" rule in full effect.
elders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.

think about everything you could have been doing while you were an active jw.
and even if you weren't a "true believer", think of all the wasted time you put into the "truth"-----for nothing!
sucks, doesn't it?

Like daystar, my parents got involved and I went along because I was trying to please them. Is there a point here or is this just the 'salt in the wound'?
i had a scholarship that i didn't take because... well i'm sure you know.
i did eventually go back to school and get a degree but i feel like i lost ten years.
selling liner for cat boxes door to door for a long time
I don't feel so bad now :)
i was wondering especially from some of the old timers out there jw's or ex-jw's that really understand the jw's concept of the reserrected dead during the 1000 reign of jesus christ.
do they believe that the people brought back from the dead will have to convert to jw's in order to live on for eternity?
i know this sounds like a stupid question but i was talking to a jw's elder the other day and he told me that people like my grandmother who was a "devout born-again baptist" would have to study and become a jw's in the 1000 year reign before she could enter into paradise.
geez. all of that came off very badly. 72 virgins instead of a thousand. btw, I'm not anti-muslim, I was just trying (poorly) to make a comparison

sorry. I meant to say blows himself up. not blows himself. entirely different thing altogether

i don't know if something is wrong with me or with entire setup of things.
i mean every time i think about wtbs i get angry and frustrated which is beyond the reason.
and most interesting part is i'm not getting any better, looks like i'm going nuts every time somebody mention anything even remotely related to wtbs.
I have to agree with the guy above. Time will take care of most of it. I was out a good five or so years (with zero contact with any of witnesses) before I could look at it rationally. Like you, I found parallels in everything and it was just because I didn't know anything else. I know it is hard but don't let it damage the good things your new life can bring you.
today on cnn.com, i saw they had a story about paris hilton ending her engagement.
well, i don't know about you, but i find this woman to be a waste of time.
why do people care about this woman?
one word: slut. she is still oddly fascinating though

Foregoing the material things now so you can have everything later kind of reminds me of the 1000 virgins that a devout muslim gets when he blows himself in the middle of a schoolyard or something.
when i stubbed my toe last night and characterized a long-time poster here as still being an elder (for which i apologize), and then this morning, reflecting on the meaning of that, the question came to me:.
what does it matter?.
there have been so many "persons of authority"-- ministerial servants, elders, bethelites, even district overseers (as i've heard)-- who have posted, and continue to post, on this discussion board.
Just before I decided to reply to this I noticed that everybody else has like 5 or more thousand posts and I have like 12 or something.
But here goes... The people that weren't lurkers in the meetings in the KH, the people that commented and answered questions and were active rose through the "ranks". It seems the same here with the exception of the gender issue. That to me is what makes this so nice. You can look around and see everybody's contributions (male or female) and benefit from their support. I was (for the most part) raised a witness and it was hard work for me to comment at meetings and go out in service but I did it because I thought I could help someone (until I realized what a crock of sh t it was). Now that I am out and have been out long enough to not carry much baggage from it, I would like to help ex-witnesses get on with their life.
