Different kind of MAN thread: Does money matter?
by serendipity ini ran across an article today http://biz.yahoo.com/special/money06_article2.htmlwhy are men so afraid of money?.
men are said to be very simple, linear creatures.
it's women who are supposed to be the illogical, circular sex.

I hear that idea a lot, but I honestly don't know a single guy who is afraid of a girl with money. Seriously. The woman in the relationship has the potential to be "in charge" whether she has money or not. Of course, the reverse is also true.

I love that song. It was played throughout my freshman year, and I adore it for the memories it brings. Also, Vanilla looks just like my cousin.

ROYAL SCAM: The Law of Moses _becomes_the Messianic Hope (thanks to Plato)
by Terry indon't confuse the law of moses with paul's interpretation.
paul's theology is neo-platonism at its core.
there is nothing judaic in its reasoning.

Great stuff as always, Terry.
It has seemed clear for awhile that I was chasing the carrot on the string, but I have noticed that witnesses like to ridicule this kind of logical thinking. They like to bring up that scripture that speaks negatively of the person who says "where is this promised presence of his", or "things are exactly the same today as always".

Respect Jehovah's Authority, one crazy WTS Video!
by drew sagan ina few months ago i ordered some of the videos that i didn't own.
it is a strange video that follows the drama they had a few years ago at the circut assembly.
between the digital effects, strange makeup, odd dialog, and commentary by governing body member samuel herd, this might be one of the societys strangest videos ever.

Also, my wife and I actually stayed after bookstudy one time to watch that video with the whole bookstudy group. We ate popcorn, even!
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Yeah, isn't that the one about Korah? Basically, it leads you through the whole "questioning, then murmuring, then speaking against, then all of a sudden the ground is opening and you are dying a violent death" scenario. I found it highly disturbing even when I was not yet questioning much about the org.

If you were newly inactive, did you feel pressure to attend the Memorial?
by truthseeker in.
i'd be interested in hearing your experiences, if you were newly inactive and felt pressured to go to the memorial.
did the jw's pressure you to go or did you feel guilty for missing the lord's evening meal (well, we all miss it anyway when we pass it round)

I am having trouble making up my mind. I don't believe even slightly in the ritual anymore. I would only go for my wife and family, who of course think it is such a big deal. But if I go, I will have to endure stares, questions, and comments. I'm not sure if I'm up for it or not. I think I would be tempted to down the crappy wine and yell, "I'm Rick James, bitch!!!"

I think many of you will return to the religion one day
by free2beme ini don't mean this as an insult, more of a life experience thing.
i saw a lot of people leave in my years there and a lot were angry with the religion and the people, and some even protested the kingdom halls and wrote things in the newspapers.
a lot though, came back in time, as it was just the comfort zone they felt at ease in.

Quotes said it all for me. Once you know the whole story, you can't go back to believing. At this point, my life is such a freakin' pain in the ass, I would go back just to get some relief. But the problem is, I have read and learned too much to be able to stomach it. I couldn't sit through even the morning session of one circuit assembly. It's over for me. I can't turn off my brain.
