hypocritical parents anyone?
by collegegirl ini was reading one of the posts earlier about how hypocrisy among the rank and file really pushed some over the edge.... well, how about this one?
my mom and i were watching pretty woman on tv tonight (edited version).
it is her favorite movie, so i told her i was going to buy it for her.

Yup. I am a college girl, and loving every minute of it! When I started, i figured out why college is considered bad within the WTS. It actually encourages free thinking and questioning. Imagine that! Anyhow, I will be 19 in two weeks. I was raised in the "Truth." All of my family are witnesses too, except one grandmother, and my inactive dad. I still go to most of the meetings, and have to do service since I live at home. I am pretty much waiting for the opportunity to fade. I have been reading on this site for a while. DIM got me hooked....

Beautiful Mind
by Scorpion inrussell crowe's latest movie 'beautiful mind' is very good.
my wife and i and a few friends saw it tonight.
crowe's part is a real reversal compared to that of his role in gladiator.

Hey Scorpion... Just saw it last weekend. I thought it was very good. i am not a huge Russel Crowe fan.... I don't swoon at teh menion of him like many girls. But, I must admit, he was very impressive in this flick... And hats off to Ron Howard.... Great directors are the key...

Knock Knock...
by KistByQpid ini'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.

I still do service.... I have just enough time to keep the family off my case. I hate every minute of it though. I actually feel guilty when I go door-to-door because I don't feel I should be telling people about something I don't even believe in or support to begin with. I usually am able to do "low-impact" service, that is, all return visits of others in the car group and a wawa or 7-11 stop.... sometimes I am lucky and we stop at a Dunkin' Donuts :-)

Thanks for the welcome Tera.... Yeah, I've seen my fair share of hypocrisies as well, just thought I'd share this one, since it was fresh in my mind.

100 Reasons You Might Be A JW
by 2SYN inflood alert!.
(001) if your reaction to someone wearing a cross is the same as a vampire's, you might be a jw.
(002) if you think demons can reduce their size to fit in jewelry, furniture, books, or into blue smurfs, you might be a jw.

What a great list! So so funny! I really liked the one about education or getting a job (bc it is so true), and the one about if you like 7-11, then you're a witness in service. Great stuff. Thanks for the laugh!

I was reading one of the posts earlier about how hypocrisy among the rank and file really pushed some over the edge.... Well, how about this one? My mom and I were watching Pretty Woman on TV tonight (edited version). It is her favorite movie, so I told her I was going to buy it for her. She told me not to because she couldn't watch it. When I asked her why (knowing all along what the answer would be) she, of course, said, "Because it is rated "R" so I can only watch it on TV." I dropped the subject.
However, later on tonight I was upstaris in my bedroom and heard some yelling. I came out of my room and realized that it was the TV. My mom (active JW) and dad (inactive since age 19) were watching the HBO series "Six Feet Under." The characters were screaming obscenities right and left. While it is true that the show is not technically rated, wouldn't the language be enough to make her walk away? I found it ironic that the same woman who sat there on the couch and told me she couldn't own the unedited version of her favorite movie because of a rating, could watch men screaming the F-bomb non-stop. Anyone else find this ironic, or have similar stories?

Why be so judgemental....
by jerome ini just got through reading a thread based upon a statement from happy man.. from his post i gather that he is still an active jehovah witness.
and thinks that the good in the organisation outweighs the bad.. -----------------------------------.
why is it that when someone comes here for the first time or that when someone says something that is pro-watchtower the members of this board decend apon them like a piece of meat thrown into a kennel full of hungry dogs?.

While I am a new poster to this board, I am not a new reader (it's alnost been a year since I first started checking this out.) I understand what you are saying about people being so quick to judge and jump down other's throats. However, I also feel that this is to be expected. When people learn that what they have known as truth (for me, it has been my entire life) is not true, they do get angry, and when people try to justify the organization covering up or concealing things, it is also confusing. I am at the point now where I am starting to talk to more than one or two people about how I feel about the whole WTS situation... When I talk to these people, I tend to get very emotional and opinionated. I guess I act on impulse and pent up emotions, but I know that I am not the only one who does this. If this place is one where we an post how we feel about the WTS, then we should do so knowing that not everyone will agree with what we say. If someone does, as you put it, reply to something I have to say in an excessiviely judgemental way, I, as someone who chose to offer my feelings as opinion, should take the responses with a grain of salt. I would hope that everyone else would do this as well.
I have seen some posts that maybe did not have to be so harsh, but if one chooses to reply that way, then so be it. It is just an indicator as to the personality of the poster...

Apostate Literature
by YoYoMama inis it possible after researching the net on jw beliefs, background and reading apostate information that a jw would still research the bible and find watchtower teachings as truth?
-
collegegirl
Like most everyone else, I think whether a person accepts all the WTS has to say or not has to do with the kind of person he or she is. If one researches and finds out about all the falsehoods that are portrayed as infallible "truth," I don't see how one could still believe. But, the organization has so completelty and successfully brainwashed so many people that, even after finding out what is so wrong with everything, some can push all that onto the back burner and jsut say that it is all satan's influence... It is sad, very very sad. And scary....
