I am now registered on both boards, this one and bboyneko's. I have seen some good topics and a lot of inanity on both boards, a lot of pointless pot-stirring. I really don't have much time for reading or posting these days, but when I do it's my desire to find topics worth reading and discussing, rather than a board filled with thread after thread of complaints and arguing over some perceived slight or the potential to be slighted.

20 year old JW dead in USA - AJWRB responds
by Lee Elder inon thursday september 5th, we learned that a 20 year old jehovahs witness (jw) named collins stephens had died in an intensive care unit in little rock, arkansas.
for us, this tragedy is heightened by the knowledge that something as simple as a transfusion of red cells might well have saved collins life by allowing physicians to repair his damaged heart and aorta.. we know that collin was in an accident and that he survived for over ten days in a drug induced coma.
we know that physicians worked feverishly to keep him alive and build up his blood count.

Athiest Moral Code?
by Xena ini was talking with an athiest friend the other day and he brought up the subject of how society in general has been governed by the christian moral code.
some christians apparently predict chaos in society if an athiest moral code ever replaced the christian one.
this made me wonder....what is the athiest moral code?

It has nothing to do with religion or the lack thereof. It's all up to the individual.

Smoke gets In Your Eyes.
by Englishman ini was just wondering, how many of us here took up smoking after we left the witnesses?
i have to admit that it was just about the very first thing that i did when i finally received that sumbeam of enlightenment that jw's were simply not anything special.
i drove out to a country pub, bought 2 panatellas and a half of red barrel, and spluttered my way through my first cigar n' pint.

I started smoking when I was 14. Quit at 22 when I got baptized (I was found in service, not raised in). When I left the org, I stayed off for a while, but I started playing in a band. One night when we took a break, I had already drunk a couple of bourbon 'n' cokes, and had a good solid buzz on. I came down off the stage to the band's table, and there was a pack of Marlboro 100's on the table, so I spontaneously blurted out, "Gimmie one of those Marlboros!" and it was on again, for another 10 years.
I quit smoking February 1st of 1998 and will never start again. I don't mind the smell of second-hand cigarette smoke by a single person, as for example when we're all walking to a restaurant for lunch and one guy lights up outside. Actually, sometimes it smells kind of nice. But I hate cigarette smoke filling the air, and getting on everything, like in dance halls and AA meetings. When I go to those places I'm unable to enjoy the goings-on because the smoke makes me nausious. Then it sticks all over my clothes and skin, and when I get home the first thing I do is shuck everything off and have a shower, scrubbing my skin hard with the washcloth. My gosh, that's nasty.
Back in my dubbing days, I had the proverbial cleaning business. One contract we had was to do cleanup after new construction in a remodeled newspaper office. There were three floor-to-ceiling windows in this remodeled area, each about 18 inches wide. I used a scrubber on a pole and a squeegee to clean them. They were brown and almost opaque. The brown came off with scrubbing, though, and I had to change my soapy water three times per window, there was so much of it. One of the workers looked at the clean, clear glass and exclaimed, "My gosh! I've worked here for seven years, and I always thought those windows were tinted!"
A friend of mine who was raised a JW but left at 19, started going out to clubs to dance. She was describing one to me once and got on the subject of the smoke. Looking me in the eye with a look of great disgust, she said, "I had to blow my nose afterward because it was all clogged up. My boogers were brown."

How Much is Shunning Worth?
by Xena inmy jw niece called me last night on the phone.
she is having a pampered chef party (for those of you who don't know what these are, it's like a tupperware party except they cook a meal and sell the cooking stuff).
it is going to be at my jw sister's house and all the dubs will be there....including my "best" friend who ratted me out to my sister regarding us celebrating christmas last year.. i am not invited....but my niece would like me to buy some stuff and to make up for shunning me she is offering to give me her hostess discount....woohoo huh?.

Changes—I'll show you mine . . .

Good for you, Patio! I scouted out the Aikido dojos near here and found one I like. I'm going to sign up as soon as I get a couple of money-absorbing matters taken care of... hopefully in October. I took Aikido in college, and figure it's the natural martial art for me to follow, at my age. I plan to see it on through to black belt. Beyond that, I don't know, but I'm especially looking forward to working with the sword and bo (wooden stick). I do some neat stick twirling with my drumsticks, but that's not going to stop an assailant.
Also seem to be moving on in my fleshing out of a philosophy to live by. Recent developments have made me question whether polyamory is really the lifestyle I want for the rest of my life. A partner for life is starting to look like a viable option again.
Round and round the wheel goes...
