  So, did you know any Janitors or Landscape people?

  lol!!

  okay i know this is a dumb question, but was it just me or did we seem to have a lot of janitors and landscape people in that religion.

  i did know a couple of higher paying professions in our congregation, nurses, large business owners and a couple of retail managers.

  I'm surprised that there were a lot of medical transcriptionists and medical billing people in the JW congregations... wouldn't that involve billing insurance companies for blood transfusions???

  Neither my boyfriend nor I know ANY JWs with even a 4 year degree. This is from 3 different congregations. We know of a couple with certificates from community colleges. Most of the women either worked as cashiers in drugstores or grocery stores or didn't work at all. Most of the man did some kind of physical labor... they worked on farms or they were construction workers. Actually, come to think of it, construction was the most popular job for JW men... anyone else know a lot of JW construction workers?

  my goodness, they are acting like 12-year-olds.

  Don't you think that the people in Middle Eastern countries need to grow up a bit more? If a woman walks outside with even her FACE showing, she runs the risk of getting stoned to death. The same if she wears WHITE SOCKS in some countries... or if she leaves the house without her husband, brother, father or other male relative. Do you think that they should grow up?

  How about the people BLOWING THINGS UP and BURNING THINGS DOWN and causing RIOTS over a freaking CARTOON?

  Personally, I don't care about Brokeback Mountain... there are much more important things to be worried about. The people making the huge deal about it are the ones who are trying to force it down everyone's throats. I don't care about it.

  Am I only encouraging JWs?

  when i go to this one store, i usually stop into the laundromat next door to it about once a week and pull out all of the awakes and watchtowers.

  there used to usually be about 3 or 4 per week.

  now, it seems that they are putting more and more in there.

  When I go to this one store, I usually stop into the laundromat next door to it about once a week and pull out all of the Awakes and Watchtowers. There used to usually be about 3 or 4 per week. Now, it seems that they are putting more and more in there. The other day I went in there and there were seriously about 30 of them there. Is it because I am pulling them out? Should I stop disposing of them because it will only cause them to leave more? I don't really think so, because I can always just throw them all out. But I am wondering... I thought I was doing a good thing by disposing of this garbage, but will it really backfire on me and motivate them to leave even more (in that establishment and all over the place?) Do you think that they are leaving more because they think an INTERESTED PERSON is taking them, or do you think they are leaving more because they know someone is just throwing them out?

  What do you all do when you find this trash sitting around in doctor's offices, laundry places, etc? Do you throw it out? Does that cause them to only want to leave more? Do you leave any kind of literature exposing the JWs in its place? Should I do something like that? Should I print out copies of anti-Watchtower literature and leave it there? I'm sorry, this probably sounds like a strange question, but what do you guys do? What do you think I should do? Are they putting more in because someone keeps taking them out or do they actually think someone is interested or what?

  But in all honesty... I don't get it. The stuff seemed to make even less sense than a typical JW. What were they talking about, loving the freedom of self expression or something? What is this, a JW who does yoga or body painting or something? I really don't get it.

  Discussion with my parents about WTS

  after reading for a few months this is my first post here.

  i was raised a jehovah's witness by my parents who became jw's in the late '70s from field service.

  i'm still a jw but doing a lot of researching on the history of the wts.

  Beating your kids

  i've been lurking here a long time.

  one of the topics that i rarely see disscussed is how many of you parents beat their kids because the religion told them to?

  if so did you really beat your kids (after reading from the bible) or did you ignore the rule?

  I can't really answer the question, exactly, cause I'm not a parent... but I thought I'd comment anyway...

  I am so sorry to hear about any of you that were beat. A lot of people think that I am very "radical" in my views on this... but I don't think anyone should hit their kids, ever. Not even a "spanking" or a "tap." You don't go around hitting adults, do you? That's illegal and you can have the police come take you away if you hit an adult... but it's okay to hit a KID!? A small child that can't even defend themselves against you? People that are a fraction of your size? It's ridiculous. People who hit their kids and spank them have absolutely no brain and I think they are completely cold hearted. How much intelligence does it take to raise your fist or hand to someone? Not much. Anyone can do that. An intelligent parent can find other ways to discipline besides hitting. How about using some words and talking things out, too, for that matter? But I suppose for lazy, dumb "parents," it's easier to just hit the kids. How embarassing it must be to be a parent like that... to know that you are just BULLYING someone so much smaller than you.

  JW Pseudo-Vegetarians

  we don't talk to them anymore, but a couple of years ago when we did, my boyfriend's jw mom and sisters all of a sudden decided that they were "vegetarians.

  " they decided it was wrong to eat jehovah's animals, and plus, they said it was "healthier" anyway.

  i found this to be pretty ridiculous for a few reasons.. one, they were not really vegetarians.

  WTS: NO MORE BOUND VOLUMES AFTER THIS YEAR!

  i just found out today (from my sister) that crooklyn will not be making any more bound volumes of the watchtower or awake magazines after this year------instead, they're all going to be on audio tape only.

  she does not have a computer so i generously

  i think this could very well be yet another tactic of the gb trying to keep a lid on their "embarassing" quotes of yesterday.

  That kind of stinks because that's how I located quotes that I needed and stuff... is there any way to get a hold of the actual magazines (not bound volumes) unless you save them? I guess I am just going to have to make more regular stop-offs to the laundromat and grab all of the new ones all of the time.

  You know, that is one thing that has always amazed me, anyway. I can't believe they even make bound volumes at all. I'm not too surprised that they are discontinuing them... because I could never believe that they made them. I'm sorry if I'm out of the loop here... but in the bound volumes... did they ever change things around from the originals? Or were they actually stupid to re-print all of the dumb things they said in the bound volumes, the same as the originals? Did they ever make changes or not?

  Jehovah's Witnesses: Harmless or Deadly?

  it is difficult to imagine the frustration of a doctor who wants to help but who is forced to watch a jehovah's witness patient bleed to death.

  a three page article by dr. elisabeth rosenthal in the august 1988 issue of discover magazine ( pp.28 - 31 ) related her feelings and observations as she watched her jw.

  patient, a ms. peyton, die from loss of blood.

  Blood on the Altar is a really good book. I haven't read that many books on JWs but that is the first one that I read and I really enjoyed it. I really like the way David Reed writes... I really felt like I knew him when I was done with it.
