It's funny....before becoming a JW I just loved math because it was always so exact and dependable. They take the fun out of everything.

The end is nigh
by IP_SEC indo you guys think we are sufficiantly along in the month of october to be able to say that the end isnt coming in the fall of '05?.
when i was a dub i really thought the end was coming this month.. 1975+30= 2005. if adam was 30 when eve was created this would be the end of the 5000 years of since jahs last rest.. eve created, jah rest for 1000 years (1k years is as one day to jovah) he picks up work again 1000 years after eve is created.
now in 2005 that means he has just 1 more "day" until the next great 1k years sabbath.

Just to say hi
by fullofdoubtnow inhi, i am a friend of dedpoet, i think he may have posted about me occasionally, and he has kindly allowed me to join the forum from his pc as i do not have internet access at home.
i have known trev (dedpoet) since he first joined the same congregation as me 14 years ago, and we have always been friends.
i was very sad when he left us some years ago, but have maintained contact with him, something that has got me in trouble with the elders just lately now he is disassociated.

all my love, Linda
I don't know why that touched me like it did. I just wanted to give you a big hug.
Welcome to the board. I am fairly new myself but have seen more compassion, love and understanding here in a few weeks than I saw in over 20 years as a JW.

I was reading a post today about the kingdom songs we sang as JW's.
by booker-t ini was thinking about the kingdom songs we sang as jw's and was wondering about you posters out there that are ex-jw's or still jw's what was you all time favorite "kingdom song" or what was you all time horrible song that we sang from both songbooks (1966 songbook or the later songbook made in 1984 sing praises to jehovah.
my favorite song was song #119 in the 1966 songbook "keep your eyes on the prize".
i like this song because it made me feel that armaggeddon was coming fast and the "new system" would be here to give me the prize.

Funny, Darth....from your Avatar, it surprises me that you're not a good singer.

by destroyedbyhate inhave any of you ever thought that you would be with somone forever in a paradise earth?
then you realize that it was all a bunch of lies.

Yes.
You see 10 years of time, effort, and commitment die a slow death. You try to hold on but you just aren't the same person anymore, but she still is.
Yes. 30 years and he still is.
Part of you wishes you could turn back the clock and fix it, but the other part longs to be free and live life for yourself for once.
Hardly a day goes by without thoughts like this.
You just want somone there to tell you it will all be alright, but you stare blankly at the computer screen in front of you. Being alone is scarier then I thought. But at the same time it is exciting. I am so confused.
It will be all right and you don't have to be alone. Your situation is not unique and you have found a good place to refresh your soul and find encouragement. Time really does help to heal. Welcome. -

Am I over reacting?
by lola28 inmy sisters came home yesterday and said someone was following them home from school, they got very scared and ran the rest of the way home.
they also told me that these two men had also followed one of their friends home a few days ago.
should i call the school and report it or should i call the police station?

Hell no, you're not over reacting! Call the cops and get the neighborhood watch involved. Find out who those punks are!
My sentiments exactly! Believe me, you don't want to be in the position of looking back and wishing you'd done something.

I can't help but think about the song, "We're Jehovah's Witnesses". I can still hear my kids belting out the one song they could sing. Some of them even sang their ABC's to the same tune!
Personally, the songs/singing at the KH always sounded pathetic to me. And why is it the ones that sing off key, sing the loudest? I think that was the thing I missed the most about 'Christendom'.....some good, heartfelt singing and the old hymms I grew up singing. That should have been my first clue that something was amiss when they have to have their own set of songs for praise!

by Check_Your_Premises inhow did you get over these phobias?.

My husband was real big on the demon theory since he was raised by spiritistic parents. The whole JW/demon BS fit right in. We wouldn't accept anything from his parents or have pics of them because they could be possessed. He would get weird feelings about objects from yard sales and we would get rid of them. And of course, anything of any religious nature that wasn't JW oriented was infested with demons. Several months back he was having trouble sleeping at night and thought it was demons and asked me if I had any anti-JW books in our bedroom closet. I told him I thought there might be some in a bookbag somewhere. He asked me to get them out and said I didn't have to throw them away, but he wanted to take them outside the house to store them. WTF! I told him I had read them all and they had served their purpose so he could dispose of them.
I've recently sent of for religious material to be sent to my home so I could start doing some research. I'm sure this will bring up demon-possessed accusations. I think it is only fair that I can have the same concerns about WTS literature and ask him to not have them around too. Ya think?

Elder Abuse and Special Committees
by twinflame ini thought i would share an experience from the congregation i was assosiated with in utah.
about 17 years ago i caught my 15-year-old stepson molesting my 3-year-old daughter.
of course, the first action taken was to call the elders.

Amen to that Lady Lee. That has been the entire grounds for my struggle....how do you forgive someone who blatantly justifies a terrible wrongdoing? I would feel much differently if he was cut to the heart by what he did and acknowledged his mistake. If it makes me un-Christian in some people's eyes because I can't/won't forgive....so be it. There are two sides to this equation.
I truly appreciate your viewpoint in the matter. It makes me feel much better.

Interesting comments, Sheepish. I'll have to think over what you said because it immediately put up a huge wall to even consider forgiveness. Not that you are wrong....I just have to digest it a while. And even though he was a teen when he did the molesting, at 31 he still feels justified....different story for me.
I really appreciate your kind thoughts and imput though.
