Perhaps the majority on here are insisting this just has to be big news the same way JW's insist that Armageddon just has to be close. To repeat the trite old truism - 'only time will tell'.

Journal of Church and State: WT NO-BLOOD EXPOSE'
by AndersonsInfo in(baylor university, waco, tx) an essay entitled, "jehovah's witnesses, blood transfusions, and the tort of misrepresentation," found in the autumn issue of baylor universitys prestigious journal of church and state, published december 13, 2005, exposes the vulnerability of jehovahs witnesses religious organization to massive claims for compensation because of the religions misrepresentation of the medical risks of blood transfusions.
this milestone essay critically examines one of the religions main publications for teaching their children and new recruits about their blood beliefs, how can blood save your life?
the peer-reviewed essay details many misrepresentations of medical facts, which the religion partly relies on to support its blood prohibition, thus denying its members from making fully informed medical decisions.

It sounds exciting, but I'm keeping my feet on the ground. Not wanting to be a wet blanket here, but let's just remember that this is the opinion of just one lawyer, albeit having been 'peer-reviewed' (whatever that means). And detractors could say she is a bit prejudiced due to the death of her JW mother over blood refusal.
My initial reaction was ambivalent. Some of the points made by the Courts in previous cases look promising. However the article doesn't address the overriding reason for why JW's refuse blood transfusions for themselves and their children, and that reason has nothing to do with any 'secular facts' whatsoever. The reason JW's refuse blood is of course purely spiritual, scriptural. If any JW parent or individual stood up in Court and was asked if the alleged misrepresented 'secular facts' induced them to follow the Society's directive then they would insist that they didn't, that the only real reason they refused blood was because they believed it would displease God. As I understand it, mispresentation can only be successfully proven in Court if the person relied on that information and suffered material loss because of having relied on that information. It's highly debateable that this is the case just because the Blood Brochure distorts of leaves out a few medical facts. And the blood card makes it clear that the person is making the decision on religious grounds.
It is also hard to imagine that these issues have not already been tested in Court, to some extent at least. There must be dozens of cases where hospitals and their lawyers took the Society to Court. The Society has won (in)famous Supreme Court decisions re the blood issue. It seems odd that none of those doctors or whoever have already used 'misrepresentation of secular facts' to try and shoot the Society down. Is the author of this article saying that this issue is novel and has never been examined in any of those cases?

What a strange thread. I'm afraid I have to basically agree with Def'd.
If God warned Adam and Eve that they would die if they ate of the forbidden fruit then that can only mean that they would have lived forever, on this planet, if they had forever obeyed, right? God and the angels don't die and it was never the purpose for Adam and Eve, who were made in God's image, to die either. The Genesis account doesn't have to spell everything out in black-and-white does it?
To deny that Adam was a perfect human being would amount to a basic denial of Christ's ransom and the need for it. Jesus was obviously perfect (sinless and therefore could have lived forever on earth) and only a perfect man could atone to God for what Adam lost.

How big does the "Big News" have to be for you to not feel disappointed?
by GetBusyLiving ini hope this is huge.
like massive bethel schism huge.

The sad thing is that whatever it is, it will most likely only reach a tiny minority of JW's unless it makes major head-lining news. If it is not taken up by journalists then JW's will never learn about it, except for those few rebels that browse sites such as this. Even if it receives significant media coverage world-wide, the sad thing is that it will just be dismissed by 98% of JW's as more distortions and smear-campaigning, just like they have done with the child-molestation scandals and NGO thing. At the least it may act as the tipping point for many already on the edge of leaving.

Why don't elders drop off the mags?
by yaddayadda inwhy is it that there is no arrangement for 'faders' and those who stop going to meetings to at least keep getting the magazines.
why don't the local elders or pioneers even bother to drop them in our letterboxes?
it amazes me how much time is devoted to methodically cold-calling with magazines in the door-to-door work, but no methodical arrangement exists for inactive ones.

I think you're right Ozziepost.
And yes I am still interested in perusing the mags, believe it or not.

I remember years ago in my loyal JW days (I was raised a JW) casually hearing from time to time about the 1975 prediction. Perhaps it was someone on the doors or at work. But other JW's said that the Society never really predicted it, they just hinted at it, so I believed that and used to repeat it on the doors. Then years later when I began to fade I read all the 1975 related quotes for myself and realised that although they never said in any publication '1975 will be when Armageddon starts' they went so close to saying that there was no difference really. It hit me then that all those years I was wrong and the 'apostates' were right! So I started to wonder what other bits of wool had been pulled over my eyes. It was a surreal realisation.
