Actually there are a lot of desperado sisters who will marry brothers way older than them. I know a sister in a local congo who was only in her late 20's, a real brethren-like priss but actually quite attractive, just couldn't find a brother and kept lucking out. She met this guy in his early 60's in field service, studied with him, got totally infatuated, and they got married!! When I first saw them together I just couldn't take my eyes of them. It was the most pathetic site and so embarrassing, this rather yummy young thing sitting next to this superannuitant with totally white hair. It was like she must have had some sort of mental problem, a father complex or something. I actually felt really sorry for her, thinking what he was gonna be like in 10-15 years time compared to her. And I resented him for actually daring to marry her, dirty old git. I know of quite a few cases like that but with not quite as big an age difference. No disrespect intended for older guys on here BTW.

Am I being Cynical?
by slugga ini was looking through the dub dating website that was advertised in another thread on here and noticed that an awful lot of young dubs are looking to meet people aged "18 - 80" ...yes 80 !.
now this could be because these young dubs are really spiritual and believe that the great tribulation is just around the corner and that provided they've sold enough mags they and their 80 yr old partner will make it through and that "wrinkles" will become young again.
or it could be because the young dubs are gold digging ?

Welcome.
"am convinced that Jehovah's witnesses are part of Babylon the Great, because they are always plagued by illness, bad health and burdens, due to a lack of faith (Hebrews 11:6). That's unusual reasoning for concluding they are a part of BTG; never heard that one before. But I agree with you that they are a part of BTG.
BTW - nice that you can recognise that you learned a few good things from the JW's.

What will be the next big 'new light'?
by yaddayadda init's been a while since the watchtower overlords made any serious doctrinal changes.
wts 'new light' seems to be somewhat cyclical, around every ten years or so.
it's been just over 10 years since the 1995 'this generation' change.

Blondie, Havn't they already published 'new light' in order to allow non-anointed ones to assume greater responsibility at world headquarters, acting as assistants to the GB and so-forth? Barbara Anderson did a great expose on the fallaciousness of their reasoning on that? What exactly are you suggesting they may do instead.
I firmly anticipate that any 'new light' and/or other changes will occur in direct proportion to evermore dimishing numerical growth. As soon as that magic % in the annual report finally hits the big nada and then starts plunging into negative, then we will undoubtedly see some changes. Unfortunately I cannot see much happening until after what I expect will be a big disillusionment + falling away if the end doesn't come by the 100th anniversary in 2014 of the invisible reign that never was. I strongly suspect that, human nature being what it is, many long-suffering JW's have privately ear-marked this date in their minds.

Jonadabs, the promise they will never die made in 1935
by garybuss injonadabs, the promise they will never die made in 1935. .
convention.
again the watchtower reminds its readers that a convention of jehovahs witnesses and jonadabs mill be held at washing ton, d. c., beginning may 30 and ending june 3, 1933. it is hoped that many of the remnant and the jonadabs may find it convenient to attend this convention.

"Jehovah thus dwells with them representatively through Christ because they have fled there to the city of refuge’. The Greater Jehu has invited them into the chariot, that is, into the organization of Jehovah, and he tabernacles over them."
So 'the organisation' is an anti-typical 'city of refuge' and the 'chariot' that Jehu rode??? Good grief.

Doesn't it feel good to meet other witnesses who quit going to meetings?
by JH intoday i met a brother who doesn't go to meetings since over 5 years.
we didn't talk more than 5 minutes, but he said that he doesn't go anymore, nor does his wife, nor does his father in law liviing below his apartment.. he also told me that the elder's daughter across the street got divorced because her husband committed adultery.. the things you get to know just speaking to 1 witness.. he also told me that when he worked in the cleaning business with the brothers, that they didn't pay him the money he deserved.
basically he said that he got screwed..

I feel happy for them and inspired to continue avoidance of the meetinggs, but at the same time I feel for them because I know they have probably gone through some pain and sadness in leaving.

Disturbing paragraph in Dec 15, 2005 Watchtower
by yaddayadda inin the 2nd study article, page 29, paragraph 17.
"a similar shocking end will come to the symbolic harlot who has the name "babylon the grat.

In the 2nd study article, page 29, paragraph 17
"A similar shocking end will come to the symbolic harlot who has the name "Babylon the Grat." The harlot represents the false religions of Satan's world, which have their origin in the ancient city of Babylon. After false religion's end, Jehovah God will turn his attention to all humans who make up the secular parts of Satan's world. These will also be destroyed, preparing the way for a righteous new world. - Revelation 17: 3-6; 19: 19-21; 21:1-4"
So let me get that straight. Jehovah first destroys everyone in false religion, and then destroys all humans in the 'secular' world too. Well, errrm, that really doesn't leave many humans left does it? Oh yea, it leaves JW's of course.
The reaction to all of this by the surviving JW's? Paragraph 19:
"...On whose side will you be during that great day of judgment? Act decisively now, and you may be privileged to be included among the "great crowd" of human survivors of "the great tribulation". Then you will be able to look back with joy, and you will praise God for executing judgment on "the great harlot who courrpted the earth with her fornication. United with other true worshippers, you will be in agreement with the thrilling words that heavenly voices sing: "Praise Jah, you people, because Jehovah our God, the Almighty, has begun to rule as king."
Yep, I can't wait to joyfully praise God for slaughtering 99.9% of the earth's population. What a great solution to all the world's woes. That will definitely prove that Satan was evil and God was love.

Forscher, I think you are probably closest to the truth. The leadership has become a faceless beauracracy in the communist fashion simply intent on minimising dissent and maintaining status quo. It's totally calcified and stagnating like you say.
I don't envision any changes re 1914 at all because it will have to mean the re-writing of truckloads of related prophecy. The JW's will just end up like the 7th day adventists but with 1914 instead of 1843.
Same with the blood doctrine...I can't see them changing that either.
The only changes I can see is minor tinkering at the superficial level, perhaps shifting the bookstudy to a Saturday morning before field service or something like that. Not new light, just enough to keep the borg imagining that the organisation is progressive.
