Can the elders hold a JC and disfellowship someone in absentia, without even making contact with you beforehand? Can they just summons you to a JC by, say, leaving a note in your letterbox or a message on your answerphone, and if you don't turn up, diss you anyway?

A JW's view of JW's who refuse to shun
by Honesty inyou are committing the same sin that king saul committed or that miriam and aaron committed.
you are acting presumptuously and going against jehovah's arrangement.. .
you can't have it both ways.

No doubt the Pharisees would have told the good samaritan that he was acting against God's arrangement by helping that beaten up guy lying in the road.

It's what got me first wondering that something might be screwy about the Society's chronology etc. I started to wonder, "wot else have they got wrong". It's what first made me think that they might be just 'winging it' after all.

Buddhism bigger than JWs in US - Why? Does It Appeal to YOU!
by Seeker4 inthere is an article on yahoo news today that says buddhists now-number over 1.5 million in the us, compared to about 1 million jws, and that they grew 170% in the 1990s.
here are a couple of points they make in the article:.
"what is drawing people (after that fascination with zen buddhism in the '50s and '60s)?

I'm attracted to Buddhisms techniques for stilling the mind and living more in the moment. The precepts are also good and the people are always gentle and compassionate. But what puts me off getting into it is the immortal soul, reincarnation claptrap. Buddhists also tend to give 'worship' Buddha and idols. Those elements put it definitely in the religion category.

Class-Questions for JW's
by Emma ina woman i work with is going to a class at her church on how to talk to jw's.

Get them to read Matthew 24: 29-31 and ask them whether this has been fulfilled yet(they will say 'No, it is future') Then get them to read Matthew 25: 28-30 and ask them the same question (they will also say 'No, this is future'). Then ask them whether Satan is presently ruler of the world (they will have to say 'Yes' according to John 12:31 and 1 John 5:19) Then ask them who Jesus shares his world rulership with (they will say "only 144,000 persons taken from earth). Ask them if they can see any contradictions so far.... They may try and fall back on Rev 12 to try and prove there is a 'short period of time' (so far 92 years) between when Jesus becomes King and Armaggedon. If they do then pointedly ask them "please prove to me from the bible precisely what or whom Jesus been ruling over since 1914"? They will ummm and errrr and say they will call back another time to answer your questions.....which they never will.

About the only factors that appear to directly trigger or lead to any growth in the organisation now are: major world events, (eg, 9/11) that gets them thinking it is a sign the end is around the corner, and organic growth, ie, being born into a JW family. The number of factors that are working against growth in the organisation appear to be increasing and vastly outweighing the factors leading to growth. And the negative factors appear to be increasing: internet information highway exploding worldwide, 1914 shrinking further into the past, evidence of leadership desperation and apostasy (UN), fiscal pressures and decreasing donations, increasing societal pressure on young ones to get tertiary education, increasing moral lassitude in society and family break-up, increasing public awareness and suspicion of cults, negative media publicity, younger elders, general tiredness and disillusionment at Armageddon slowness in arriving, changing legal climate and potential lawsuits. All the negatives are slowly but surely wearing the Society down and unless we see some major world event in the short term future (which is only likely to create a temporary slowing of the decline) the haemorraghing is almost certain to continue and get worse.

The Watchtower and the UN--MY letters and Brochure--
by uninformed ini wrote the wt for a year before i was df'd over the wt-un/dpi-ngo deal.
i have all of my letters, the wt jerkoff letter back to me as well as a compilation of a simple little brochure, documenting that the wt was more involved with the un than for a library card.
if you would like to see and read it, i would like your feedback.

Great letters Brant.
The Watchtower's letter to you dated September 20, 2005 completely fails to address the facts and issue in question, ie, that the Society knew exactly what obligations they would be expected to carry out as an NGO to the DPI. Even if we given them the benefit of the doubt and allow that they may not have been fully apprised of what they were getting into when they initially applied, it is undeniable that they were given information from the UN setting out all the duties and obligations of an NGO immediately after. The UN's official letter re the WT Society on their website starkly points this out and is damning to the Society's pleas of ignorance. It doesn't matter a jot that the actual 1991 application 'contains no statements that conflict with our Christian beliefs' because it is clearly the act of applying in the first place that is the conflict, not the words on the forms. We could compare their argument to a JW joining the YMCA or the Republican party and then later saying they are not guilty because the initial application form had nothing offensive on it. In any event, the evidence is there that the Society knew full well through information they received shortly after (by letter and an information pack sent to all applicants), and on an ongoing basis, of what being an NGO involved, ie, to publicize UN material and submit regular reports back to the UN to prove it was doing just that - which they undeniably did. This is why they refuse to open their files.
What is especially disgusting in the letter is the allusion to the infamous Awake article that appeared around 1991/92 that talked about how 'the UN will soon play a powerful role in the fulfillment of God's purpose'. It has been revealed by Barbara Anderson (former Headquarters worker) that this particular Awake article was written by Ciro Aulicino (the Society's UN rep and one of the original signatories on the application) and commissioned by the late Lloyd Barry (the other signatory on the application) for the purpose of submitting the article to the DPI as proof of meeting NGO status criteria. There is no doubt this is what their own files reveal.
In short, it is not the 'opposers' who are presenting 'distorted claims' and 'false premises', it is the Society itself. They are hypocrites and liars.
