Reading the snapshots on that website of what Barbara Anderson's cd book reveals made me feel a lot of righteous indignation and anger against the Society. Barbara and Bill Bowen are doing a wonderful job of bringing this important issue to the Public's attention. God bless her for that!

But as for any resignations at Watchtower headquarters over this - it'll never happen! The GB are completely unaccountable to anyone but themselves. Through their twisted 'faithful and discreet slave' teaching they have cloaked themselves as Gods divine channel, a quasi-inspired/holy status that makes challenging them tantamount to korah-like rebellion and sin. They are beyond reproach, Gods over their own organisation.

According to Revelation 2:2, Christians should be 'testing' those who set themselves up in apostle-like positions over the flock, but JW's are far too brainwashed to ever do that, at least in the foreseeable future.

Here's another stumper you could embarass them with:-

You (clever little independent-thinking JW): "So Matthew 24:46.47 says that "Happy is that slave if his master on ARRIVING finds him doing so. Truly I say to you, He will appoint him over all his belongings", right?

Elders: "Yep".

You: "So when does the Watchtower Society say that Jesus arrived and appointed his 'faithful and discreet slave' (class) over all his belongings?"

Elders: "Errm..Aahh...I believe that was in 1919."

You: "Correct. That is when the Society say this scripture was fulfilled. Now, please turn with me to Matt 25: 31 and read that...shuffle, shuffle..."When the Son of man ARRIVES in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne."...Notice that the same word 'arrives' is used here. So, brothers, when does the Society say this scripture will be fulfilled.?

Elders: "Eerrm...aaah...I think the new understanding is that this is a future time, when the great tribulation starts."

You: "Correct! In other words, the Society says that ARRIVING in Matt 24: 47 was in 1919 and ARRIVES in Matt 25: 31 is in the future! What do you think about that brothers?"

Elders: "Errm...aaaah...my wife is expecting me home now so we will have to talk about this another time..."

Elders pack up their bags and scurry off with strange looks on their faces.

Who is the next most powerful/dominant member of the GB after Jaracz?

for some reason there is a consensus on the board that teddy jaracz is currently the most dominant, powerful member of the gb.

i'm not quite sure where that view comes from, but assuming it is true, my question is: who will replace him when he finally dies?

jaracz is 82, recently had a heart attack, but evidently he is well again and still very energetic so he will probably be around for quite a few years yet.

If you are right Deaconbluez then it seems Samuel Herd will be the next big cheese, if he isn't already. I would like to know more about this man's background. He is the big black dude right?

Judging by the transcript of his controversial talk last year, in which I believe he suggested that the preaching work had practically ended (would like a link to that thread) it seems to me that he may be somewhat of a maverick, prepared to make slightly unorthodox and provocative claims, someone who comes up with new ideas? Could he be the next Freddy Franz?

What else do we know about Sam Herd, assuming he is going to be the next head honcho after Jaracz demise?

Jack Barr is too old - 95 next year.

After Jaracz's demise, who will be head honcho on the GB? Gerald Losch? Losch is the most senior after Barr and Jaracz respectively, but what is he like in person? Is he like Jaracz, or is he milder, more humble?

Another question: Why has there never been a GB who retired? Why do they all get to continue as GB members even when they become decrepid with age? What must be happening is these ancient old buzzards get to vote on important decisions on the GB when they are most probably not up to it mentally anymore. No doubt they get to a certain age (wheel-chair bound, half blind and deaf, in nappies) when they must be voting purely on how their favourite other GB member votes, or some personality that dominates them or who they admire. What sort of basis is that for making quality decisions about the organisation and the lives of millions of sincere JW's?

Why don't they put these old sods out to pasture at a certain age, say, 80 and just make them 'honorary members' without voting rights???

The only reason I can think of for this situation is that the absence of retirement and full voting rights up until death acts to preserve the status quo and stop too much change happening too fast. It stops any doctrinal changes being pushed through quickly.

I'm going to order Stafford's book. That essay was like a breath of fresh air. Despite what you make of his dubious parallels between the ancient Israelites, Rev 2,3, and the JW's, he has made a very prescient observation - that the time is coming when those more loyal to the bible than the Watchtower Society will have to break off and start their own group. That day is definitely coming although it appears to be a looong way off (decades).

I echo the sentiment that there are many redeeming things about the JW'S, particularly their rejection of most of the ridiculous dogmas taught by mainstream christianity. The problem is that the power wielding control-freaks on the GB at the top are clinging on to a number of false teachings, burdensome works programmes, and harmful policies that are depressing the organisation.

I havn't given up hope for reform, although it may not even come in my lifetime, but I think men like Greg Staff should be applauded by not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Love him or hate him, men like him are exactly what the organisation needs.

How do I ensure I don't miss any real JW news?

i've decided to end my addiction and only visit this site once a week because it is eating into too much of my time and i want to get out there and engage with the real world and 'real people' more.

i'm sick of living a virtual existence.

so what is the best way of ensuring i don't miss anything interesting in the jw-world on this site, and i mean such things as new directives from brooklyn, 'new light', policy changes, changes to the meetings, new releases, reports on assemblies & conventions, gb personnel changes, and such-like.

Ie, real news, not fluff and opinion. How can I find such news once a week without having to scan through so many posts on here that build up over the course of a week. Can that be done?

Just checking the 'active topics' doesn't seem to be the answer as a lot of fluff and nonsense ends up on there. And some very newsworthy posts gets put up on the 'friends' board when it should really go up on the 'Beliefs, doctrines and practices' board. And other sites that aim to provide this kind of information often miss important/interesting news.

How about the site starting up a 'JW news' board that is used only for news of official happenings and changes in the organisation. I think the site is crying out for that. Anyone else agree with me.
