For example, at 1 Peter 5:8, Satan is likened to a lion, picturing his dangerous, vicious nature. But at Revelation 5:5, Jesus is likened to a lion-"the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah." In the latter case, the lion is used as a symbol of courageous justice.

  Does this go for the 3 birthday accounts in the bible too? All three have murderous connotations: Job, Pharao and Herod..........but 2 of them have positive connotations too! In Job's case, he found out how good Gods blessing was, and the Pharao did exalt the sommelier in his previous position........ Cheers Borgia

  the eighth king is science....That's what brings down religion. All world religions have trespassed on science, they have been on sciences back. During the period of the middle ages it seemed as if science was dead, it had been there, but was virtually non existent.
  
  Later on, during the Renaissance, science came out of the pit stronger than before, the people on the earth were full of amazement and followed where the sciences lead them. But, the major contributors to science were pious men of the cloth.....Religion was still on sciences back.......
  
  As of 1859 we see a gradual degradation of the role of religion in science. It's no longer pious men who entertain certain affection for science. Uni's are filled with non religious and even anti religious people. Religion fights back to stay on the back of science, but it will loose.
  
  Now science is eating the fleshly part of religion. Religion has to give way to science. And now we get to experience instead of a tsunami of atheism....... .....
  
  Yes, religion is already smoking....

  you will find a host of books and articles that discuss the polar opposites of love and fear.

  the bible shows two opposing gods.

  personally, i believe god is love and the angry god of fear is an imposter.

  it seems that the governing body may have recently perceived that they are losing the next generation of witnesses and also have no emerging "b" team to replace elders dying off.. but words and fewer meetings aren't going to change that.. religions don't endure because they make any sense!

  they endure because they build an infrastructure and institutions that preserve their particular traditions.

  this is the reason for the success of the catholic church - and, especially the mormon church ( with its laughable beliefs).. but the governing body has been busy tearing down what little infrastructure of support the organization has.

  i am an "active" jehovah's witness in that i go to the meetings, smile and nod, and pretend to go along with everything happening around me.

  this is not because i believe that the wbts has any redeeming value but because i am trying to keep my family from being shred to pieces.

  because of my "independent thinking" and use of rational thought, i would clearly be labeled "apostate" and ousted from my current congregation.

  I have many discussions with JW's, including elders, on doctrinal issues. Some dare to go further than others.....BUT.........to show them that it is NOT Gods spirit directed organisation......because Spirit direction has nothing to do with it...is a tough one. I can discuss anything as long as one thing is understood: Doubting the FDS and the GB is a big NONO.
  
  But I still keep posing questions.....

  the orthodox muslim faith is a constant source of debate in the western world today, and it would be obvious to draw a parallel between saras dilemma and the difficult situation of young muslim girls in a western country like denmark today.

  director niels arden oplev has openly stated that this was a parallel he had in mind when he made to verdener.. .

  sara goes proselytizing with her father (jens jrn spottag) and younger sister (sarah juel werner).

  just a thought for those of you who converted to jwdom.. now that you're out, or in the process of leaving, do you feel that your life has come more or less full circle?.

  Nope! Not full circle, not crazy iwan, spiral, or whatever.
  
  As far as my situation is now, I consider it profit / loss situation. Over the course of my JW period though I had been a religious dumbhead, from a business point of view I'm not bad off. Maybe I could have been better off if I had used my time better. But that's hypothesizing. I'm afraid my wife will never leave jw-land but have good hope that my kids will.......
  
  When it comes to God. I'm atheist, so I've gone from dependent to independent mindset. That's not even close to a circle. But certainly something of the opposite heading....
