NYC people or those that have been there
by mariposa init appears we will be visiting nyc from about the 16th of dec. for a week or so.
we are going to see some long lost friends of my husband in queens and i'm sure they'll show us around, but there's also going to be alot of drinking and catching up between them and i'll have quite a bit of free time on my hands.
i don't know if we're going to stay with them or not, i've been checking on craigslist for an apt or something we could rent.

Ok - we're headed to 10 min. east of Kennedy airport, right on the line between Queens and Long Island. Does that sound familiar to any of you?
I'm still looking for a place other than that to stay. I guess somewhere between that area and Manhattan. I'm checking out the hotel that po's son recommended.
How long after Christmas are the lights and festivities up downtown? We're not sure if we're going before or after the 25th.

No I still don't know where we're going in Queens yet. I reeeeeeeally don't want to stay w/ my husbands friends so where we stay is still kind of open. They all speak another language and I don't know how well they speak English. I'm tempted to take the baby and go stay in a hotel in Manhatten by myself!! It'd be more fun that way:)
I take it the mass transit is used a whole lot more in NYC than here in Atlanta. I drive everywhere downtown here w/o problems but I won't be doing it there for sure!! Thanks to you guys!
If any of you guys want to meet up, let me know!

A tribute to Moose
by cruzanheart inour basset hound moose died this morning.
he was only 2 1/2 years old but he had addison's disease.
something caused internal bleeding and he went very quickly, which was merciful.

Your favourite place....
by diamondblue1974 indo you have a favourite place in the world...if so where is it, why and do you have photos?.
mine has to be nisyros (a very small greek island near kos); i last visited there some years ago and ever since i was captivated by its beauty and tranquility.
in short its a volcanic island but unspoiled by tourism; the people are amazing and so down to earth.. take a look.

In the mountains. The only ones I'm real familiar with is N. Ga and the Smokey Mt Natl Pk. I love it up there, either at the top looking around for miles or camped out down below with the smell of green all around you. I need to take a trip out to the Rockys.

How many NWTs did you own as a JW?
by jayhawk1 inif there ever was a throw away bible, it is the new world translation bible.
i got to thinking this morning about how many i once had when i was a jw.
here is the list as best as i can remember.... 1 old green hardback nwt with the dinosaur on the inside cover.

Hmmmm.....Let me try to remember...
I had 1 Hardback black in English and one in Spanish (I think I had a few of these set aside in the offchance I found an intetested worldling )
1 large reference black one
1 leather nice one in red....I had a bookmark made of about 8 different color ribbons I always ran through my fingers at meetings.
1 red leather King James my great grandmother had gotten me when I was little
1 other translation paperback that was like a modern translation in 20th century english
As for now, the only NWT I have is the red one. I've got the other 2 that I had before I was a witness too, more for sentimental value. I'm really not sure in what box or closet they are all in right now.

What song best epitomizes what keeps you going
by Lady Lee ini know a lot of song threads have been posted but i am interested in what and why a particular song moves you to keep going when you have lost so much.. if possible find the lyrics to the song and post them along with your what song and why it was so important.
as a kid i had an old 78 record player that i had to wind up to play (i did say old.
) there was one old record that had a song by ed ames 'the impossible dream" i was in foster care and had no contact with my family.

Music of the Night from The Phantom of the Opera cause it makes me believe there is more out there waiting to be found. When I hear it live, I don't even feel like I'm sitting in the audience anymore. It's just absolutely surreal. I also can't get away from "So far Away" & "Epiphany" from Staind.
You have come here, for one purpose, and one alone ...
I first heard you sing,
I have needed you with me, to serve me, to sing, for my music ...
my music ...
Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation ...
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination ...
Silently the senses abandon thier defences ...
Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour ...
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender ...
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night ...
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before ...
Softly, deftly, music shall surround you ...
Feel it, hear it, closing in around you ...
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness which you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of the music of the night.
Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world!
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Let your soul
Take you where you long to be!
Only then can you belong to me ...
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in to the power of
the music that I write - the power of the music of the night ...
You alone can make my song take flight -
help me make the music of the night ...
