I know a lot of song threads have been posted but I am interested in WHAT and WHY a particular song moves you to keep going when you have lost so much.
If possible find the lyrics to the song and post them along with your WHAT SONG and WHY it was so important
As a kid I had an old 78 record player that I had to wind up to play (I did say old. right?) There was one old record that had a song by Ed Ames 'The Impossible Dream" I was in foster care and had no contact with my family. My foster mother acted more like a jailer (no phone calls, dropped off and picked up at school, no friends from school, no after school activities, etc)
This one song kept me going for 3 very long years (13 - 16). The words felt so true to what I felt inside. And to this day the song and the lyrics fit who I am and what I believe.
Yesterday while I was waiting for the bus to come home a lady sat beside me and we chatted about disabilities and how important it is to stay positive and do all you can to have a life you feel good about in spite of the problems we are faced with. I sat there with my wheelchair and she spoke of needing a cane soon and has all ready got eyeglasses and a hearing aid. Glasses are pretty common and most people think nothing of them but I sure couldn't do very well without them. They are an aid to better living. People resist hearing aids but the principle is the same. So is the cane and the wheelchair or any other device you need to continue living well.
So while this song helped my as a child the lesson is still there for me:
- to keep on dreaming of better things and better times.
- to keep on living well when I have lost so much
- to find new things to challenge me
- to know I did the best I could from what was handed to me
"The Impossible Dream"from MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion | |
To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong This is my quest To fight for the right And I know if I'll only be true And the world will be better for this |
