  I have a question:

  JW dogma currently holds that (1) only the faithful and discreet slave class would be expecting Christ's parousia to begin in 1914 and that (2) the Bible Students were expecting Christ's parousia to begin in 1914.

  So, why do all the articles from Zion's Watchtower and Herald of Christ's Presence that discuss parousia up until at least 1920 state that his parousia began in 1874 and that he was enthroned as king in 1878?

  Is it even remotely possible that they were still waiting for something in 1914 that they were dogmatically stating had occurred some 40 years prior?

  How do you answer, Fred?

  "Trinitarians" how can you "lie" to the truth? Is truth a person?

  i was talking to this jw's elder who i believe has to be the best debater against the "trinity" doctrine that jw's have he brought up several point which i feel needs to be addressed by trinitarians.

  first of all he argured that acts 5:3-4 about lying to the holy spirit in no way makes the holy spirit a person any more that "lying to the truth" in james makes "truth" a person.

  i have never seen that verse before about lying to the truth.

  But, then, just as each of the 7 congregations in Asia Minor received different counsel [in Rev.2 & Rev.3], so each congregation in the Apostle Paul's day had different issues, as does each congregation today.

  We aren't discussing personality problems or spiritual difficulties. We are discussing problems of doctrine. You know, doctrine; like the dogma of the Catholic church that the JWs always bash because it doesn't adhere to the Bible? The dogma of Jehovah's Witnesses doesn't adhere to the Bible either.

  I can't think of even one respect in which Jehovah's Witnesses are genuinely better than any other religion professing to be Christian, but I can think of many ways in which they are worse than most.

  This is going to be a tough meeting for me

  i will be "studying" the chapter about the memorial with my local witness contacts.

  as a christian, i find their teachings on christ to be nauseating.. i am looking for a chance to bring out the old russell books and ask them to clear up my confusion about a number of previous teachings.

  if anyone thinks of me, and is so inclined, send up a prayer on my behalf for wisdom, clear thinking, and above all that the true love of jesus will shine through me and the spirit will open up some darkened hearts.. ts.

  A former "Bethelite" JW's friend of mine wants to "Disassociate".

  a friend of mine that was at bethel when the "change" came out about the "generation of 1914" in 1995 wants to "disassociate" himself but is terrified that his family especially his mother(who is of the annoited) will totally shun him.

  his whole family are jw's his uncle an elder, his sisters pioneers, etc; any advice i could give him?

  i know what it is like since my mom has been a devout jw's since 1967.

  The downfall of the WTS will require both DA/DF and faders. As it is, the WTS is becoming aware that they have built their house on sands and the winds are coming to test its foundations.

  Both stands require a kind of courage, the choice is more difficult (in my opinion) for those who try to influence from the inside. I have done both and I know which was harder for me. Once I had reached the point where I knew for sure that there was no hope for them to ever reform I had already gotten myself invited to a DF session judicial committee in the elder body where my father was PO. DA was, in my opinion, a more noble option.

  Narkissos mentioned the mistranslation of a very simple Greek word in the NWT. It was not consistently mistranslated, but was frequently mistranslated. The word is en. I believe this is one of the clearest and most theologically abusive instances of their bias in translation.

  In the NT they mistranslated the word 95 times.

  The JWs in my family go back four generations on both sides. I can empathize mightily with your friend. Since I disassociated myself all of my family shuns me save one DFd brother.

  Arthur: I have found that the agape of which you speak is easier to manifest in an environment where we are not micromanaged and coerced into a condition of sterilized unanmity and conformity.

  In an environment of "sterilized unanmity and conformity" there is no room for love. That is why the Pharisaical system of things was devoid of love. In such an environment consistent expression of agapé is all but impossible.

  Fred: Unity and conformity are beneficial when working with properly-constituted direction.

  Here we agree. But I bet we differ on what constitutes "properly-constituted direction". I believe Peter received direction in Acts 10. The old guys in Jerusalem didn't agree that his direction was properly constituted, which caused Paul to eventually go to Jerusalem to see about their resistance to the direction of holy spirit (properly constituted direction).

  Note that in Acts 15 there is humility shown in the decision finally reached by the older men. "The holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to you except ..."

  There is no such humility among the modern day Governing Body. They boldly dictate on many small things that go well beyond the light burden established in the 1st Century and they make no pretense that they have received their direction from holy spirit in these tittles of (relatively speaking) mint and dill. They gulp camels while straining gnats. They make grand claims of insight and simultaneously claim to have no special insights. Both cannot be true, yet they speak both as though each is true.

  And you believe them to be "properly constituted", although there are many more similarities between their structure and the structure of Judaism under the Pharisees than there are between their structure and the 1st Century Christian structure.

  Excellent question, Fred. There is, actually, an answer. Only those infected with cult thinking believe "unity = unanimity."

  You don't think "unity = unanimity", do you Fred?

  Unity is dwelling together harmoniously regardless of differences. The JW version of "unanimity" is pretending to have and enforcing conformity to a single standard.
