  Sasha,

  My understanding on Christian baptism is basically informed by three Scriptures.

  Matthew 28:19, 20 shows me who it is that can baptize someone. I think it is saying that anyone who believes that commission applies to them is qualified to baptize other people.

  Acts 2 shows me how Peter applied Jesus' words at Matthew 28:19, 20, and he did not use formalized words like, "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost . . ." It seems to have been the baptizee's perspective, their heart attitude, that was most important, not a specific rote and ritualistic invocation by the baptizer.

  1 Peter 3:21 shows me what the Bible think baptism means. I can find no Scriptural reason to forbid someone from getting baptized again if they feel the need to do so.

  That is covered by the column "Prove Bible Knowledge."

  It is a bit of a misnomer, because it isn't Bible knowledge they prove. Rather, they prove they know sufficient proof texts to support the Governing Body doctrines and they prove they know how to misapply Scripture. But I figured if this is going to be effective for reaching JWs it will have to be presented non-confrontationally.

  Jehovah's Witnesses call quite a lot of doctrine "good news" that goes far beyond what the Galatians accepted. The Apostle Paul said that neither he nor an angel out of heaven had the authority to add to the good news, but the Governing Body often presumes that authority.
  
  Paul said anyone doing so should be "accursed" or 'anatema' in the Greek. Anathema, in English. Disfellowshipped in JW speak.
  
  That is how Paul judged the Governing Body, as 'anatema' for teaching something beyond what was written, beyond what the Galatians accepted.

  DA on Sunday, Announced on Tuesday

  as you may be aware, my wife and i dad ourselves on sunday afternoon.

  it was announced to our old congregation last night (tuesday).

  it will apparently be announced to their sister congregation tomorrow (thursday).. .

  According to organizational rules they are free to announce DA and DF in as many congregations as they feel is necessary to protect the flock from inadvertent infection. They would say that passwordprotected and Mrs. are now infected with a deadly disease, a virus of sorts that is transmitted by words. In my opinion, they came down with a bad case of noble-mindedness.

  I have no idea what someone might have said about the text, but I find it difficult to believe that the foremost student of Gamaliel needed more studying on the OT before teaching the Gospel he carried which he said was revealed by Christ Jesus in direct revelation.

  Acts 9:19-22 — He got to be for some days with the disciples in Damascus, and immediately in the synagogues he began to preach Jesus, that this One is the Son of God. But all those hearing him gave way to astonishment and would say: “Is this not the man that ravaged those in Jerusalem who call upon this name, and that had come here for this very purpose, that he might lead them bound to the chief priests?” But Saul kept on acquiring power all the more and was confounding the Jews that dwelt in Damascus as he proved logically that this is the Christ.

  According to Acts, his ministry began immediately. Before the trip to Arabia. It surely wouldn't be the first time a CO twisted Scripture.

  TopHat: What is the old saying? Never discuss religion with your friends? I can't remember the rest. I think it goes, "Never discuss religion with your friends, or you'll soon be talking to an enemy." If that isn't how it goes, maybe it should. That said, I am born of Spirit and am an adopted child of God.

  A CLEAR definition of "higher education"

  yesterday i went to the saturday segment of the two day circuit assembly.

  the brother giving the talk wanted to make sure that all in attendance understood clearly what the watchtower's definition of "higher education" was.

  this is not verbatim, but this is as clear as i can remember it.

  Yes, well, it is perfectly reasonable that the Governing Body would discourage people from following the example of members of the Governing Body. I mean, Albert Schroeder was such an unconscionable cad for getting the Governing Body to encourage young Judah Ben to go to Columbia University for so long. I suppose young Judah Ben, at the impressionable age of . . . (what was it, 49 or so?) . . . well, anyway, he should have resisted the temptation to do what his father and the rest of the Governing Body wanted him to do.
