Normal Life.....

i was thinking of the watchtower study as i was siting in church today.

my youngest two children were in the front singing "jesus loves me, this i know", in english, then in spanish.

they had these big grins on their faces.

I think that is very heartwarming.I know what you mean, having seen my kids in church as well.

I was just commenting though, on a nother thread, that there really is no "normal" life. There is life without the overwhelming burden that the JW's tie on the backs of their followers,and the ensuing guilt, and maybe that's what you mean, but there is little "normal" about this world we live in.

I have experienced self-righteousness and bondage from different so called Christian Churches, so JW's don't have the corner on the market. You still have to be careful to follow God and not man when looking for a place to worship with others. And I think there is a honeymoon period when you get free and go somewhere else, just be careful cause the enemy has people planted everywhere designed to suck the joy out of your relationship with God.

My mom was a JW and my Dad was Jewish, so I understand the awkwardness of not being a "full-blooded" JW.

I have a word for Auld Soul...don't let all this fool you. There is no "normal" life. The Witness's developed their own community, and some of it is very convoluted, but the world is not normal! That is a fantasy from television.

When I finally got free from the JW's it took me years to shake some of the stuff. Like feeling guilty I was not out Saturday morning going door to door. Actually shaking the teaching that if you leave the Organization you will be in the dark, or fall back into worldliness...I have grown into a more mature Christian now, (don't belong to a denomination) I've built on some of the things I learned as a JW (yes, I did learn some stuff) but life as a follower of the Almighty is never "normal."

CHEATING ON FIELD SERVICE

towards the end of my time as a jw, i must confess to cheating whilst out on field service.. 1. i would turn up at the field service arrangement with my wife, and we would say that we were working together that day to do return visits.

as everyone went out, we would simply get into our car and drive home.

(hypocritical i know).

I tried to be right about it, I thought we were "allowed" to use some of the aforementioned procedures...it was the counting of time that first got me thinking, WWJD! It seemed too contrived. Then it progressed to trying to move Watchtower and Awakes, so I would knock on the doors, read a scripture and wish them a good day...it felt right.

Interesting cause I was gonna bring up this topic, and wondered if anyone here cared. I recently have learned this:

"Although widely known for about four hundred yeas; nevertheless, it originated as a corruption by the scribes who introduced foreign vowel points and attached them to the Tetragrammaton. The vowel points selected were those of the word Adonai. By adding these foreign vowel points to the tetragrammaton, the Sacred Name cannot be pronouncd. The English hybid monstosity "Jehovah" resulted whsen Peter Galatin in 1520 published this form. He did not understand what the scribes had done . The Talmud (Sanhedrim 10:1) explains that the Name of the Almightly is written Yah, but pronounced Adonai!

Doctor J. B Rotherham in the introduction to his Emphasized Bible had this to say about the form Jehovah:"The pronunciation Jehovah was unknown until 1520, when it was introduced by Galatinus; but was contested by Le Mercier, J. Drusius, and L. Capellus, as against grammatical and historical propriety."

"Erroneously written and pronounced Jehovah, which is merely a combination of the sacred Tetragarammaton and the vowels in the Hebrew word for Lord, substituted by the jews for JHVH, because they shank from pronouncing The Name, owing to an old misconception of the two passages, EX. 20:7 and Lev 24:16. To give the name JHVH the vowels of the word for Lord (Heb. Adonai) and pronounce it Jehovah, is about as hybrid a combination as it would be to spell the name Germany with the vowesl in the name Protugal--viz., Gormuna. The monstrous combination Jehovah is not older than about 1520 A.D."

For almost two centuries the Name Yahweh has grown in acceptance, now being commonly used in theology. The Encyclopedia Judaica makes the following statement, "The true pronunciation of the Name YHWH was never lost. Several early Greek writers of the Christian church, testify that the name was pronounced Yahweh."

There is much emphisis given in scripture as to the name of God and his son. Names are not translated. If you go to China your name would still be "Joe" in amounst the other foreign words. As are brand names like Coca-cola, or personal names like George Bush. Why would we do that to the true God's name Yahweh. The same would apply to his son's name Yahshua. Noticed the Yah part in his name!

It is ironic that the JW's pride themselves in being called by his name! (Also that Satan was not transliterated but Yahweh, and Yahshua are! )

I know that God looks on the heart, and if you call on the Savior using the Latin, Roman nickname given him, he answers, but it is not his name.It really has never been lost, and I think there is value in understanding that.

True that, I was only wondering for the sake of relating to my family members who are still JWs.It helps to know if they are expecting the end next year, cause if it doesn't happen I have a distinct opening again!

House-to-house confusion

i know i've seen both sides of the house-to-house argument.

of course, jws say it is approved in the bible while non-jws say it is the opposite.

but on reading in another topic i happened upon a quote implying paul wrote in favor of house-to-house preaching so i looked it up in the american standard version bible.. the ones i usually see that speak against going house-to-house are the following:.

As I understand it, when you were new to a town you went to the town square. Were not the Jews taught to take in the stranger? To cloth and feed them? We know disciples would go to a public place and just lift their voices and preach. They would also go into synagogues (perhaps comparable to going into churches today in a way) surely someone would ask them to dinner or to stay the night. Other stories told in the New Testement are that when there was a dinner held many locals came to hear what the guest of honor had to say, specially if he was from out of town.

Jesus not only sent out his disciple two by two, one time he told them to take no money, or sword or change of clothes! Another time he told them to be sure to take them. He was teaching them things, like he would supply what they didn't have and needed. The point was that followers were to go into all the world...not specifically how they were to do it. The Almightly often does things differently according to circumstance. Think for a moment how he delivered the Isrealites. Sometimes he let them have the victory, sometimes they had to stand back and watch, once he had two guys hold up Moses arms for victory. My point is, there is no formula.

Thanks for the welcome jgnat! I am brand new tonite. I haven't been a Jehovah's Witness for going on 25 years now,(was never disfellowshipped, I left) but my mom and older brother (an elder) are fully entrenched. My older sister is on the edge, but is afraid to talk about it, and my little sister isn't one, but will defend it. So I am always praying and looking for insights to connect with them. I look forward to learning a lot, and meeting new folks. Also in the back of my mind I hope to meet some old friends who also left many years ago.

I used to have nightmares when I was a child, probably from WT pictures. I would dream the earth opened up and swallowed me, or giant waves came and overtook me. But I always assumed I'd make it, being a believer in Christ and all, I guess the truth of the scriptures leaked through. I certainly knew suicide was forbidden and possible unforgiveable. The full picture is what the scriptures say, "It is appointed once for a man to die, and then the judgement."

What angers me the most is, not only what the WT does to people, but that so many abandon God altogether because the WT has succeeded in making the WT and God one in the same to them. Not so!
