what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.
It does seem to be a way they can keep everyone looking fairly the same. Given American's penchants for following fads, (and rather immodest ones at that) your can almost understand.
It seems to me, the scriptures indicate the Creator doesn't want us mucking about with gender.(Not meaning to start a big to-do about this issue) the scriptures seem to indicate that cross- dressing/transvestitism is not what God had in mind.He doesn't use "abomination" lightly.
The rule would hold true no matter what culture you were in.The men back then wore robes, but I imagine there was a difference between the men's and women's robes or dresses (I'm pretty sure the women would make SURE of it! Being that women haven't changed all that much, and are interested in style and such.) A woman can wear pants and not wear men's trousers. We can all pretty much tell the difference. The society decided to draw a line in the sand and blame it on God. Scriptures only say modest dress, well arranged hair. That leaves a lot of latitude.

this statement jumped out at me.
i got a good laugh considering how, they won't give let you share the other side of an issue with them, calling it "apostate" and all...( maybe you have other ones that you've found.).

and still associating with jws... have been baptised 23 years, that was at the tender age of 13 when i had absolutely no idea what i was doing.
i have always been considered a rebel...brought up in a family by a single parent, my two brothers are both elders, the younger being a regular pioneer, my sister a regular pioneer and serving in a foreign language congregation.
I found it very comforting to pray to Jehovah to illuminate the truth to me as I considered outside info. He is true to his word you can trust him. You will learn he does not belong to the Watchtower Society!

maybe this only happens in urban neighborhoods but when i was growing up, many dubs engaged in street work, basically offering the magazines to people on the street as they walked to a destination.. usually it was an area with a lot of foot traffic at a time when many people would travel the area.. did you or people in your congo engage in this and were there any funny stories relating to this practice?
We all work out our OWN salvation with fear and trembling...sometimes what you need to do is more than just split..."I" I hope it works out for you, I am sure it isn't easy.

i hesitated to put this out in jwd, but i now think that if it helps one person, it will have been worth it.
It's a good thing that JW's aren't better at the love thing...other wise they might not be exposed as easily. Not that they are necessarily worse than a lot of churches our there...that is my point, they are the same as many many churches in "Christendom." Been to lots of churches and it seems you can always spot the real ones...talk about your remnant!
my former colleagues at the clinic i used to work at took me out for lunch today.
what i didn't know was that they'd arranged a "birthday" party for me.
although my birthday isn't until june they wanted to celebrate the 25 birthdays i've missed while a jw.

my mom called me while i was at work today and told me that two people from my old congregation died in september.
i guess it was "national" news but it flew over my head.
drew and brent speedie were jehovah's witnesses that went to my old congregation and although they weren't "popular" or well known, i got to know them pretty well.
Very sad. Hurts the heart...consolation is God looks on the heart. Sounds like he was sincere in his beliefs and trying to do the best he could for the Lord.
i just lost my favourite ring - the little brass signet band my grandfather gave me when i was 9 and i have worn every minute sincei was 9.
i went franctic and then retraced my steps and found it on the downstairs bathroom floor - tucked under the rug and was finally calm.
have you ever lost anything and had it found or returned unusually or unexpectedly?.
I graduated H.S. early cause I hated it (it was very very boring and slow to me) so since I graduated early,it was hardly noticed by my parents. I bought myself a really cool Hopi turquoise ring to celebrate. Then I lost it. I found it, a couple of years later...in the toilet in my Dad's house! I kid you not. Fortunately I had not used the toilet yet. It was just sitting there in the bottom of the toilet...Somehow it disappeared again and I haven't found it for years and years. I still miss it!

i was in touch with her until the time of the florida hurricane and she was in a very close path of the worst of it.
i haven't seen her online since and sincerely hope all is well with her and her loved ones.. please join me in sending good thoughts her way and having a warm welcome ready when she returns to us.
