anyone know the current wt teachings on the length of time humans have been in existence?
do they still teach that the first man and woman were created approximately 6,000 years ago?
have they made any comments on archeological findings that show paleo-indians living in the america's 10,000+ years ago?
One of their "radiocarbon dating is unreliable" quotes was about *dinosaurs* I believe... lol.
I'd be interested in what they officially have to say about human origins. There is NO way they can refute civilizations existing thousands of years before "creation".
Paleontology, archeology, anthropology, history... all using *separate* sorts of science, arrive at the same conclusions... how inconvenient for the JWs.
i'm divorced and i have a daughter who is nearly 11. last year she watched a video in school covering upcoming body changes (which she already knew about).
but one suggestion they gave that i didn't think of was to go get femine supplies and be prepared for when the time comes.
i like being prepared ahead of time for emergencies.

our friend, oompa, has passed away.
just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.
it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.
Oh Oompa. I am so sad that he did this. I can't imagine the impact on his children and his parent and friend when the impact on us here -many who never met him- is so great. It must be such a crushing event to everyone who knows and loves him.
I had interchanges with him here and was FB friends with him (though he is not on my friend list now for some reason) and was alwasys rooting for the guy, no matter how bizarre things sounded from his end. :)
The fact that he is gone, has killed himself because things were to terrible to deal with makes me all the more thankful to still have everyone here, alive, who are also hurting. I'd like to think that there are people here now reading all the outpouring of support for Oompa that have had thoughts of wanting to end it all that maybe will not now do that, now that they see the terrible aftermath of the event...
Well. I have been looking through Oompa's FB photos and feeling the surreal nature of his captions -some about how he was so excited about his fishing etc, hanging with his son (?) and reading about all the stuff that made him happy to be alive.

i was deleted as ms some years ago, a brother thought i became an elder.
at the circuit assembly, he asked me if i am elder now, i said yes so the brother told me all of the gritty details about his wife and her sister that got disfellowshipped at the same time.

jw literature on subjects such as creation vs. evolution often quote out of context, with the most recent material (the newest brochures) acknowledging that often those quoted to support the jw viewpoint do believe in evolution nonetheless.
sometimes indeed quotes in jw literature are just outright misquotes, leaving off preceding or succeeding words (or sentences) that would completely alter the meaning of the source sited (i.e.
carl sagans quote, the fossil evidence could be consistent with the idea of a great designer is indeed a flat out misquote).. .
The best quotes out of context are the ones that they do at the end of This American Life.

Looks like quite a few of your shots are free from the scourge of crowds. There are a lot of beautiful places in Yosemite to hike to that don't have any tourists -I think once you get a mile or so off the trailheads out of the Valley, you are good. I hope you decide to go back and enjoy the more remote sections!
well i was kinda cut of gaurd when i saw them.
it was the two elders from the local congregation.
they said they just wanted to come over for encouragement to come back to the meetingsm one of the elders i knew me sence i was a baby and saw my son in my arms and asked how old he was.
You did well! Don't worry about being shaky- being publicly denounced and rejected by your peer group for doing nothing wrong is a really unnatural and emotionally scarring event. The fact that you have a good head on your shoulders and you are confidently moving forward is EXCELLENT. Plus you have your children and family to put first now -you have a great life and don't need those guilt trippers and time wasters bringing you down. We are cheering you on! :)
