Special Campaign announced for September: Creation vs. Evolution
by sir82 inwe had a boe letter read recently.
the september 2006 awake will be 100% dedicated to the "creation vs. evolution" issue.. even the "young people ask" article will be something like "how can i defend my belief in creation in school?
also, i think one of the articles is entitled "does the bible support the notion that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days?".

holy crap SNG, that email sounded so ...authentic.
I am all for that idea! If I can help- I have free access to any journal they might (wishful thinking maybe) quote. I can compile some pdf files... Actually I was planning on doing that for my own benefit as I have some science-minded still-JW friends who like to talk evolution, science, Velikovski (they actually believed him... and still need to be fully disabused of that idea!) and I would like to know what they are being taught...
How could I get a copy of that mag without alerting the JWs to the fact that I exist? When does it come out? Do I have to stalk the laundromats?

Add your own oxymoron
by Kenneson inaccording to webster's an oxymoron is a combination of contradictory or incongruous words.
here's an opportunity to add some of your favorite ones.
i'll start it off.. why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy" opposites?.

Worst Day(s) of my Life
by Stephanus ina slight exaggeration: the worst day was, and always will be the 14th of january, 1998. however, these last two days haven't been good.
on tuesday, unable to take the pain of a broken back tooth any longer, i rang my dentist's office to see if they could slot me in for an emergency extraction.
the receptionist asked me "has anyone told you you're a pain in the bum?".

wooo hooo bluebeads!
that's great- don't let them get you to stop!
Unfortunately I was one of those in a "1-yr secretarial course" (except it was a 2-yr preschool teaching course) but it never satisfied me so a few years later I went on to a university and now I am working on grad school (NOTHING to do with preschool teaching thank god)- you guys are so right -when you end up in classes where you actually have to think for yourself, all the WT's lies, illogical arguements and unscriptural "evidence" completely crumbles...
-Must be that cussed demonic "independent thinking"... ;)

IT'S NICE TO BE A GUY BECAUSE:
by Seven in1. chocolate is just another snack.. 2. you can wear a white shirt to a water park.. 3. car mechanics tell you the truth.. 4. if you retain water, it's in a canteen.. 5. people never glance at your chest when you're talking to them.. 6. new shoes don't cut, blister or mangle your feet.. 7. one mood, all the d**n time.. 8. no maxi-pads.. 9. you can do your nails with a pocketknife.. 10. you have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.

greendawn,
I have to say all of those points in your reply are things that I, a woman, participate in, embrace etc daily. I think possibly every other woman on this forum will agree with me here...
Many men enjoy the security of someone taking care of their every need- cooking them dinner every night, raising their kids, having sex with them every day etc. That kind of "security" I and many women don't have.
But my life is much more exciting this way- I love it! I travel every year -meet great (and some creepy) people, sometimes I don't know where I will be living or where my next paycheck will come.
That type of stuff is not gender-specific. Just as many guys enjoy your type of security.
:)

Lonely newbie who is glad to be here
by DesertRat ini was directed to this site by a very kind ex-witness who runs a christian ministry in california.
there are no words to express how thankful i am to be here.. here is what i hope (key word) will be an abbreviated version of my story: i am 35 years old, single, the only child of jw parents who had already spent over ten years in various watchtower capacities (two of those years as gilead missionaries in guatemala) before i was born.
my father was diagnosed with brain cancer when i was 11 and finally succumbed, after a valiant fight, when i was 14. among the first doubts or questions i remember having was how a god of 'love' could just passively ignore the persecution (malawi!!!

When you were a JW true believer, what were you most afraid of?
by under_believer init's been pretty well established that all religions use fear as a motivator, to some degree.
the jw's have honed this practice to a near art form.
what were you most afraid of when you were a jw?

Being tortured during the great tribulation
Committing the "unforgivable sin" WTF that was who knows.
Displeasing Jehovah
Hearing "apostate" information that would shake my faith in Jehovah.
