The Morals we were Taught from the Podium

p.s. -GREAT topic, Wanderer. I often get frustrated at the shallow "advice" and "morals" that they teach at the hall.
For example, the other day my mom told me she had some "word of wisdom" for me as I started out in this new relationship with this wonderful man I am dating.
I was really interested, as my mom has been married to my father for almost 40 years and they still are best friends, they dated for 7 years while on opposite sides of the Atlantic, have 2 kids that have turned out pretty well (if I do say so myself), have done pretty well financially etc- so I was expecting something very sage and of deep import.
So she says: "You know this man is used to a sexual relationship- you be careful if you know what I mean."
What shallow garbage. No personal reflection or the passing along of things she has pondered on or communication techniques or something that would be good for a girl starting out in a committed relationship- just a parrotting of pseudo-moralistic tripe.
It really made me sad and angry.

p.p.s anyone have some REAL good advice for me ??? ...feel free to pm... :( -

I don't believe that we were ever taught true morality.
We had a bunch of rules and all of us knew EXACTLY what we were to do in each and every situation, "using one's conscience" be damned, there was ONE course of action that was acceptable for dubs as a whole (national and cultural differences aside -i.e. different dress types in USA vs Africa).
What they taught from the podium poorly equipped us for making decisions in REAL moral dilemmas, as we never developed the ability to decide for OURSELVES what was "right".
But we never were really faced with many of the decisions that normal people were faced with in day to day life- many of the decisions that people make when they vote for different propositions, choose leaders of their country, decide whether or not to have an abortion (just a few examples) and so on are very complex and the answers are NOT black and white, as the WTS would have us believe.
Life is very messy and complex and therefore so very WONDERFUL, but you will never come across this living a life as a true-believing JW.

JW's shunning baptized wife and family because of unbaptized husband
by MinisterAmos ini saw a related thread around here but can't locate it so i'm posting this personal observation on what i would call a "high-profile" couple.
rich and bright i met them at the kh.
it starts about three years ago when a family moved to our area; a couple and their child.

Tactless Dubs
by LovesDubs inis it me or do dubs have no clue how to be tactful and pretty much just spew whatever is on their minds??
i used to work out of my home, doing medical transcription, with a newborn next to me and two in school.
the car groups used to stop at my house unannounced to use the bathroom and would wander around my house examining my stuff and my cleaning job.

ld:
Having the special knowledge that you and your people alone are favored by the supreme creator of the universe tends to make you a bit... superior. This belief spills over into all aspects of their lives- making them tactless at EVERYTHING. I know because I acted in this exact same manner unfortunately...
I don't have any groovy stories off the top of my head but can totally relate to the scenarios you describe.
Your stories, however, make me wonder about your handle, "lovesdubs"...
in jest? sarcastic...?

why can the big bang now be excepted by dubs
by looseend ingrowing up i was always told, (like most of you) that evolution was crap.
my dads friend was visiting (who is an elder) and was talking to my dad (who is still a dub) about how the universe could have fit in the palm of his hand at one point in time.
this elder was talking about the big bang theory and how god put it in place.

I think it's like this...
Because it is pretty much universally accepted the dubs have to acknowledge the big bang (only they give it their little supernatural flair). Like evolution- they do acknowledge microevolution (which is just a part of macroevolution but the gloss over that...) but deny anything that could possible challenge anything about the JJs creating Adam (dyn-o-miiiiite!!), being disobedient, the human race needing to be destroyed so the dubs can inhabit paradise etc.
ONLY cause it threatens the line about needing salvation they are afraid of evolution of humanoids from chimp like ancestors.

daniel-p,
the only way to prepare for "momentous events" at the KH is to stock up on extra TP and have a fresh can of "Glade" next to the sinks...

Funny Symbol - Anyone Recognise It?
by misspeaches inhi guys... on an off chance that someone here might know..... my manager is one of those very well spoken, very clean cut & well attired breed of men.
however he wears this dull gold ring that looks very ordinary.
