Terry,
Your manner of answering is reminiscent of the famous taxi-dispatch operator that was featured on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" ...or was it "Whaddya Know" (both on NPR).
Have you heard him?

Can you burp words and stuff?
After a good night of watching football together and guzzlin beer you should ask her to go get you some pretzles, chug a whole beer and when she comes back in BURP THE WHOLE PROPOSAL. Boy will she ever be impressed. I promise you she will start making some choices about having your children right then and there.
You can't go wrong

Creator Book - Periodic Table - Part 1
by Amazing ini believe in god ... but not because of any watchtower teaching.
it is actually fun to look back and see how they applied very poor logic and nonsense to try and prove their point.
today, the (c) 1998 watchtower book, "is there a creator who cares about you" was placed with me at the door.

God being orderly provides a nice context for all their damn rules.
For the JWs God should BE AN orderly ...to take care of all those nutcases.

Have you recovered financially since leaving the Tower?
by lovelylil inremember how many families (maybe even yours) struggled with money issues while being a jdub?
i remember lots of families under stress due to being jdubs.
you are always told by the tower not to work overtime if it conflicts with the meetings and not to go for higher education, for the same reason.

OOOh, JamieL lots of people will jump on you for that...
let me be the first! ;)
(Actually let me first welcome you here to the forum!)
Good to see you here!
Anyhoo, the WT totally tells us that it is good to put off school - I think they may have outright said it (and I'm sure one of our fine scholars here will give a ref) or by all the "fine examples" that are in the WT awake and assembly parts.
they ridicule those who "pursue" money with full time jobs, asking why they don't pioneer and when kids graduate highschool/are out for the summer the first thing the ask is: "what's holding YOU back from pioneering?"
You can always choose to ignore the society. I did, but I had a non-JW dad and a rational JW mom. I am thankful for that but I was always labeled as "weak" cause I only auxilaried from time to time and I went to college after highschool.
And ALSO the comment about not wasting money on a tip by giving it to people who don't deserve it??? Oooooh boy. I trust you never worked as a waitress? That is the most demanding and thankless job. Many women who do it can not get any other job and are trying to do a good job and support families on those wages. And in some states waiters/waitresses make LESS than minimum wage- i.e. here in Arizona the wage for waitstaff just got raised from $2-something (yes, two dollars) an hour to three-something. They depend onthose tips to purchase food and rent.
Please be a little more understanding. I know it seems like people may have many problems that you decided to avoid. But this religion has caused a lot of financial harm to folks here -just like many religions can- but this is our common bond and a place to hear each other out. -although we do need a little wakeup call every now and again when we rant too much or start attributing 9-11 to the governing body or something!
Thanks,
Kudra -

and, wozadummy, that "example" is one of the arguements used by climate skeptics that has been shot down time and time again: that stance was never advocated by the scientific community as a whole. The only group that "reported" on that was the popular media, based on a shorter cooling trend (decade or so) and the notion that we SHOULD be headed into a cooling period right now.
That cooling period, expected based on past timing of ice ages during the quaternary was reversed, as it is thought, by massive rice cultivation (methane release) agriculture and forest clearing in europe (but mainly rice cultivation i think) that took place starting about 5000 years ago.

-huh, I don't get it...
Why are all the posters who are saying that the current warming trend is a product of fossil fuels and other anthropogenic causes the ones who are citing actual scientific articles and scientists that actually study climate and paleoclimate while the "naysayers" the ones talking about the weather in their backyards last week and IGNORING 100's of years of instrumental data and hundreds of thousands of years of proxy temperature/greenhouse gas data?
wow, I just don't get it... -

1/15 WT: The Watchtower's Sick Social Order
by metatron ini just got done reading the latest watchtower and it reinforces any notion that the old men who run this religion.
want nothing to do with ethical reform of their cult.. the magazine gives an effective look at the way that the watchtower hierarchy maintains their sick social order.. first, women are inferiors, period.
nevermind the fact that women can manage/run/ or lead an organization equally as.
