To Rebel or not to Rebel? that is the question!
by freedomlover ini am truly looking for your honesty on this issue...not that i think any of you have been dishonest - i just don't want the sugar coated version of pollyanna lines.. i have spoken about this subject privately with one of you - ;) - and also with my hubby.
however, i'm wondering if i'm in the minority here when i bring this subject up.
being raised a jw i had to be so straight for so long.

absolutely. I wanted to do all sorts of off the wall things, and I was considered the straight laced one of the house. I can only imagine how compounded that feeling is when you are a wife and mother as you said. For me? I started to do little things and not necessarily rebelious things. I lived in New Orleans...so I went to Mardi Gras parades...definitely nothing illegal or immoral...just anti-dub. I befriended 'worldy' people and went out and had very nice times (ie bars, movies, restaurants, etc.) Again, nothing bad, but just something out of character. I redefined myself...I chose for myself what I thought was important to follow and what ideas to throw away...that to me felt very rebelious coming from the JW mindspeak mindset where you follow what is given to you unquestioningly.
I'm not sure if that helps you any...but maybe just let your hair down a bit. It doesn't mean go out and get a tattoo or piercings or go get drugged up or whatever...just have yourself a good time. Life is short...and as far as any of us KNOW it's the only shot we've got. Try to make the best of it. :)
Join a club, take up dancing, learn to paint, take up a sport...all productive things but outside of what jdubs would do. Find yourself. Be happy. :)

"and sometimes a cigar is a penis." - If Freud didn't say it I'm sure he thought it.

::coughs up flecks of granola bar::
crustaceans eh? I suddenly had the sound of under the sea play in my head at that one.
Santa, I'm afraid, is very real. He's at every mall around the country. He's on top of roofs and buildings and in lawns with humping reindeer. Santa is everywhere! Santa is all-knowing, all-seeing, and knows if you've been naughty or nice. He rewards goodness and punishes evil, but not in the lose your life, reign down fire from the heavens kind of punishment...more like a lump of coal in a stocking, just to remind you to clean up your act. He's happy and jolly and in general doesn't want to commit genocide on entire races or religions or creeds...he just wants to pass out presents to all the good little girls and boys.
Hmm yes. But Santa is a lie and God is the truth. Very interesting...very interesting indeed.

It's almost Christmas!
by under74 inanyone else excited?
i'm not excited about everything...there was a family fight at thanksgiving that hasn't been totally resolved yet.
not sure how it will all turn out.

I was excited till I saw my bank account statement. Unexpected medical bills and of course the state wants their tax money...and voila! No christmas for me! Not that it's all about the materialism...but I do like to get all my peeps little things that I find that I think they'd like...alas...not this year. again. ::SIGH::
To show you what type of 'spirit' I'm in...the tree isn't even up. Nothing has been done...none of my highly obsessive, slightly anal traditions have thusfar been observed. Ah c'est la vie. :)

Finish the sentence, "I'm not greedy, I'm....
by jgnat init seems the wtbts is gearing up to blame nearly every failure by congregation members on greediness.
materialism is greed.
addiction to pornography is greed.

I'm not greedy....I just have larger needs than everyone else?

Tell your grandson that JEHOVAH is a fake.
After all, people have actually seen Santa dressed up at the mall. Has anyone actually seen this Jehovah dude?
I am so glad that at this moment I was not drinking the bottle of water I have been eyeing on my desk for the last ten minutes. Otherwise I would have had to get up to the maintenance closet to retrieve paper towels and mr. clean for the computer screen and surrounding environs. :)
It's SO TRUE! Yet it just struck the laugh out loud chord within me.
I'd have to agree with everyone else here though. I knew at age 10 just how hard life was going to be, knowing what my future would hold (and thinking that I would be trapped in the org. for the rest of my god-forsaken life.) Any sense of magic and wonder and optimism had been crushed within me...it was a very sad and lonely childhood. And talk about isolating. It was a real BLAST to be the only kindergartener that didn't believe in Santa, because "It was a lie."
Cruton O' Christ, we have to deal with reality for all of our adult lives. It's hard and it's challenging and there is no magic like there was in our youth...let them keep their innocence and keep that sense of wonder...all too soon it will leave them as the responsibilities and truths about life seep in.

List What You Consider "Wrong" In The Organization
by minimus insome witnesses might not really believe that they don't have "the truth".
sure, they know about some of the past errors but they bury it because they feel everyone is imperfect and can make mistakes....but are these just simple "mistakes" or is the watchtower organization simply wrong?
what things can you think of that show that the watchtower has a "pattern" of never getting it right---even to this day??

E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G
::celebrates with a self-high five and cracks open a cold one::
Joking aside. I think I could have stomached anything they force-fed me from the platform if the fellow brothers and sisters weren't filled with so much false-love. That was what was MOST wrong with the organization. (Please find no offense as I delve into sweeping generalizations that OF COURSE do not characterize each and every individual that is still in the Organization.) Oh yeah, they love and care for you alright...until something happens...say a physical infirmity, a financial hardship, a crisis of faith. Then what? Nothing. I've had Catholics pray for the well-being of my mother when she suffered a serious stroke, but when she severely injured her back while in the Religion, no one visited other than the elders wondering why she wasn't pioneering anymore. It's a lie. One big, fat, stinking lie. And SO FULL OF JUDGEMENT! Cruton O' Christ, if I had a nickel for every time I thought about the judgement scripture everytime a jdub opened their mouth and cast the first stone so to speak...well...I would have had a lot of nickels to give to the worldwide work, wouldn't I?

Welcome aboard the basket in the fast lane!
You've found a good place to ask questions and you'll find a lot of understanding because most of us have been in your shoes. :)
(Listen to Mouthy...she's one smart cookie! If you want to continue a relationship with the giant bowl of spaghetti in the sky some call god, then ask her all about it. She'll give you some good pointers!)
