Humans are social creatures - we accomplish more together than alone. We gravitate and congregate in all manner of ways, and this is why we build cities. The average JW does not even consider this when they envision paradise. It's just rolling hills and then, out in the middle of nowhere, a traditional frame house. Where is their water coming from? Food? How do they transport goods? Where did the materials to build the house come from? Those houses should actually resemble the stone and brick huts of an agrarian society, since those will be the materials most readily available to builders with no tractors or machines and certainly no oil and gas to power them. What is even more fantastical and rediculous, however, is the clothing they are often depicted as wearing in the WT & Awake! Where are these clothes made? Where did they find those pink polo shirts and kahki pants?

Will the new system be uncrowded?
by M.J. ini was talking to an elder yesterday about how enjoyable it is to get away from civilization in remote wilderness areas, unlike the circus you see at places like yosemite natl.
park in california.
with dreamy eyes he mentioned how great it will be in the "new system", when "we can enjoy uncrowded conditions.".

"Everyone describes it like one big college dorm but sounds like some kind of fancy jail to me. I learn something new every day"
Bethel is an institution. Whether you see it as good or bad, is up to you. -

The coffee in the morning was horrible - so acidic - but I had to drink it anyway because most of the time I had a lack of sleep.
Lack of sleep because of having to drive 1 hour and 10 minutes each way to my congregation. I loved my congregation, but Wednesdays and Fridays were a killer because I would always be running low on sleep.
Saturday morning work SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED....
Morning breakfast sucked - especialy Tuesdays because it was always hashbrowns and hard boiled eggs - it took way too much of my time to break open each egg (I know this sounds petty, but my time was very precious).
Having to read 40 pages of the Bible per day in my first year (OK it wasn't 40 pages, but still).
One of my roomates who was the most anti-social and dull human being I have ever known.
A bunch of othher stuff I haven't time to get into yet.
With that said, I loved Bethel and enjoyed serving there even though I had a hard time in some ways. Bethel isn't any "spiritual paradise" but there are a lot of good people there and I made a lot of friends. -

Now I truly understand these definitions! But there is no joy in emancipation when absolutely every other loved one in your life is currently under mental bondage. -

Did You Know A Lot Of Witnesses That Were A "Little Fruit Loops"?
by minimus ini did, i was thinking of how many jws are either a little weird, a bit eccentric or even borderline crazy!
we had one man in our hall that used to love giving people he liked duck eggs.
he'd try to get you to eat them before meetings for field service.

Yes there were always wackos in the congregation... I think religion in general atracts a lot of people who are not right in the head (along with perfectly "normal" people as well, of course).

Backward Masking
by bigmouth inif you're under about 30 this might not mean much to you but during the 80's and 90's there was always a heap of counsel on debasing music.it made you terrified to listen to anything except the brilliant kingdom melodies.
we had a big thing here in nz about music that had been recorded in such a way as to give some sort of demonic message in a subliminal way.we couldn't listen to stairway to heaven, hotel california and a host of other songs.ah hell!, we may as burn everything.but i found devo's whip it is masked and now i couldn't care less, great song.of course you could only check by turning your vinyl backwards.anyone get freaked out back then too?

Soundgarden admits to doing this on their earlier tracks, insterting "satanic messages" and so forth. Regardless, I always thought it was silly. I spun my mom's old records backwards and ruined the needle! But yeah, there was a lot of council about music back in the 80's and 90's. Not so much nowadays. I guess the internet has pretty much overshadowed any bad influence of TV and music.

Do you care if DefD stays a JW or not?
by AlmostAtheist indefd/derrick is a current-jw posting on this board.
he's been on for quite some time now, maybe not a year, but awhile.
many have tried to show him the many ways the watchtower doesn't live up to its claim of being god's organization, but he seems unflappable.. so where do you stand on him now?

"No really you are right, it is a nickname of mine back in the hood!"
But why did you choose that nickname here? Isn't it obvious that it means 'disfellowshiped'? -

The only thing I'm curious about, is why did you choose the alias "Defd" if you are not currently disfellowshiped?

Any chance of you posting a scan of the article on cutting in a separate thread? It's been a topic for discussion on many occasions here and I think it would be good to see something on the subject from the wts.
Sorry, I dont have a scanner.
