WT 11/1/2009 Public Edition: EXPOSED: Six Myths About Christianity
by truthseeker init never fails to amaze me how hypocritical the watchtower is.. the november 1, 2009 watchtower's title is "exposed: six myths about christianity".
myth 1: the soul is immortal.
myth 2: the wicked suffer in hell.

This is just a left over sermon from the days when JWs just liked to bash Catholicism. Probably a move to appeal to dissafected Hispanics.

If God Truly Cared About People Wouldn't He DO SOMETHING By Now?
by minimus ini know what the witness response is to this but what do you say now?.

Each successive generation seems to think its problems surpass those of the previous generation.
I agree. This also means that things could very well be getter generally better, and all primitive prophecies to the contrary are a bunch of tribal war-god blither-blather.

Ah yes, the age-old question. For as many years as this question has been asked we have as many explanations. I'm sure Perry or some such nutwit will be happy to pontificate and enlighten your godless mind.

TCU - Home of the Horned Frogs ...
by snowbird in... was founded by two brothers who belonged to the campbellites sect - an outgrowth of the restoration movement.. one of the campbells reportedly challenged c. t. russell to a debate; i believe russell refused.. the football team, the horned frogs, played really well this season.. just sayin.'.

We got some horned "frogs" out here in CA in the chapparal... called "California Horned Lizards" --they're getting pretty scarce though and I think are considered threatened. I saw one at the top of a 4,000 ft peak last year--pretty cool, although they don't play football to the best of my knowledge.

Flu shots at local (Woo Hooooo) church!
by Fatfreek inseveral days ago my wife and i got our flu shots, both the h1n1 and the seasonal variety.. the local assembly of god church volunteered the use of their adjacent building (looks like a huge cafeteria) and things couldn't have gone any smoother.
we were in and out in less than 5 minutes because we'd already filled out the forms.. it struck me that this is something jehovah's witnesses would probably never do -- offer their facilities for some public service.. yes, i've been out for some 32 years.
has anything changed?.

Jamie, nearly every JW I knew would be ok going into a church for any other reason than worship... only the most supersticious did not...

I'm impervious to the flu. I use my mental power.

I made a big arsed pot of chilli
by John Doe inand now i have to eat it.
the idea was to save money, and don't get me wrong, it'd darned good chilli, but damn!
4 cups of dry beans sure looks like a lot more when you cook them and add 2 pounds of hamburger!

Well, after launching into a "mission to find the best chili recipe," I've now committed to doing a real Texas chili, instead of this Yankee stuff I have been making with all sorts of beans n vegetables. So next time I'm going to just use the following:
Ground chuck
Brisket
Onions
Homemade BBQ sauce
Garlic
Chilli powder
Cayenne powder
Paprika
Cumin
Brown sugar
Salt
Beer
