I remember when my truth-starved brain had a glorious epiphany: I finally understood the truth that Jehovah is not going to provide any more than I absolutely need. That I wouldn't be left "entirely." I said to myself, 'well, thanks God, that's mighty nice of you. Glad to know I won't be left "entirely."'
So I realized that if I wanted anything more than a jar of pork fat (old WT experience reference) to survive on in hard times, I better get cracking.

WTS Reason for Not Missing Meetings?
by ICBehindtheCurtain inthis is regarding the january watchtower article that is on another thread, which is about avoiding missing meetings for work, i posted this under that thread but thought i might begin a new topic to get your views on this:
it's really enfuriating, that they keep putting out this bs, i know firsthand of many r&f that either quit jobs or did not accept jobs that would compromise meeting attendance all the while their families were in need, the brainwashed mentality was "if we put jehovah first wts first, jehovah will provide", yeah right, as someone else mentioned what about when the car breaks down, or a child gets sick, etc?
then they are pretty much up the creak without a paddle.

I agree that in some areas the custom is to take August off, but in areas where heat is not as much of a factor, a lot of pioneers try to cram in as many long days as possible in August to meet their hour "requirement."

IS THE WORLD REALLY GETTING WORSE?
by ruari inhi guys,.
my name is ruari phillips, i'm 21 years old and if possible...i'd like to ask a question.. jehovahs witnesses believe the world is getting worse and that as time passes we are approaching armageddon.. but, haven't we always lived in a cruel world?.
since the begginning of time we've been killing each other, there's been diseases, death and destruction.

The key is population density. The reason why a lot of the old timers talk about the "good ol days" is because back then, in North America, population densities were much lower as the 50's were the begining of the suburbanization of America. But if you go back to the cities - whatever time period - there were always reports of murders, rapes, robberies, etc....
Now that large portions of the West and East coast have urbanized and become sprawling metropolises, it has brought all the issues of pop. density to everyone's door. -

Help please---69 Awake quote
by blindersoff inwhile talking with my mother about why i gave no thought to my future employment as a young man, i mentioned the 69 awake article that assured young folks that they would not grow old in this system.
she thinks i must have misread it.
i can't locate it now, so can anyone point me to it?.

Notice that it's always the old coots who say stuff like that nowadays. They want to be somehow comforted by the fact that they are nearing the end of their life and they have nothing to show for it so they rest their hope in the nearness of Armageddon.
It's very sad... my parents are going through this. When I was younger some of their speech was actually intelegible but now it's all worn-out rhetoric about the "great day of Jah almighty." They have lived their lives and now it's almost over for them and they just want to see SOMETHING happen.
On one hand I despise them, but for the most part I just pity them. Such a waste of braincells - why couldn't they have just lived a productive life? And they look down on me for going to college so HOPEFULLY they won't have to spend their final days in a rest home. I can't even think about it anymore... it makes me so sick. -

"Jesus saves because he died for us."
by daniel-p in"jesus saves because he died for us.
and what a valuable provision his death is!
when we see it as a part of god's solution to the complex problem of adam's sin, our faith in jehovah and his way of doing things is strengthened.

"Its true. So what is YOUR answer to that question? Are you thankful to Jehovah for making this loving arrangement for our salvation?
D."
What's sickening is that the real truth of that statement is hidden to the casual readers of the WT website. It's not about salvation from faith, it's about salvation from works. The Society admits it's both, but they heavily emphasize 'works' - something they do not let on about until a person is far enough along that they cannot exit easily.
I'm not making any judgements about the means for salvation through exercising faith in the ransom - I am judging the Society's misleading presentation of their interpretation of how to apply the ransom. -

When we see it as a part of God's solution to the complex problem of Adam's sin, our faith in Jehovah and his way of doing things is strengthened. Yes, Jesus' death is a means of rescuing "everyone exercising faith" in him from sin, disease, old age, and death itself. (John 3:16) Are you thankful to God for making this loving arrangement for our salvation?"

Also, mentioning "exercising faith" without reiterating how important more and more 'works' are?
These castrated and fluffed-up articles they put up on their website are sickening.... -

My Prediction: More Elders, Ministerial Servants & Pioneers Will Be Removed
by minimus inbecause of this college rule.
i know many family "hads" that have decided that they wanted to have their children go to school.
i know of some older ones that have gone to community college to get a degree so as to have a better paying job.

"I read a very long article by a New York City Public School teacher who asserted that basic school curriculum (k-12) is actually being dumbed down on purpose. Not because people are being born dumber, but because a less educated workforce is a much easier to control workforce. Therefore, what used to be standard reading 100 years ago for the average High school student (classical education, etc) is no longer used, but has been replaced with so called "practical" education. Keep the ideas away from the minds of the masses, and they will slowly be content with their lot in life. Combine this with the mind deadening effects of stuff like TV, and it makes it easier to keep everybody lethargic and pliable."
Another possible reason (and more plausible, IMHO) is the fact that this country has long been leaning toward the privatization of education. -

The superiority of WTBTS education
by truthseeker inwhat does the watchtower teach you?
(does not include skills learnt at bethel).
let's see.... 1) how to be a public speaker.
-
daniel-p
Well, I can honestly say I have learned a great deal about public speaking and communication skills from the WTS. These particular skills are in short supply in the world in general.

Higher Education deal again.
by pc indoes anyone think this whole thing about college could be a big breaking point within the congregations.
i am sure alot of the parents of these kids did not go to college because of what the society preached.
do you think that they might just look at themselves and realize what a mistake it was not to go to school?
-
daniel-p
I can't speak for the org. at large, but the college issue is precisely what brought me here.
I have been raised in the "truth," have served at Bethel, pioneered, etc... and this IS the straw that is breaking my back.
