Hey I just thought of a simile:
The Society joining the UN as an NGO to get library access is like a person joining the military for access to the commisary.
Heh, I though of that all by myself....

Did anything violent happen at the KH or Bookstudy when you were a JW?
by booker-t ini will never forget when i was a jw and was attending the bookstudy on a mon night a man broke into the bookstudy which was in the elder's garage and pulled out a gun.
he shot the father of the jw teenage girl he was secretly dating.
apparently the girl's father had forbidden her to date this non-jw man in his 40's.

What are JW's leaders going to do when we hit the year 2014 and no Armaggdn
by booker-t inwe are fast approaching the year 2014 which will be 100 years since 1914. what are jw's and the wt going to do if armaggeddon has not occurred by then?
will they come up with a bunch of "new light" to do away with 1914 all together?
will they suddenly announce that jesus came into kingdom power in the year 2014?

Well, you know there is going to be some old codger who was born in 1914 and in the organization. They will say, look, plenty of people are still alive! Armaggedon is just around the corner!
Or they will somehow rationalize that the Great Tribulation has begun, and for us all to quit our jobs and move to Montana or something. -

Any Quick Advice For Those With Doubts in the Watchtower?
by AlmostAtheist inhey all,.
let's say you meet someone and they say that they are a jw, but they are having doubts about it.
they are doing some research and things just aren't adding up.

As far as the "Don't tell anyone" advice goes - defenitely adhere to it!
Try to feel out the faith and doubts of your loved ones, but don't go so far that they raise a red flag.
The ugly fact is, you are alone - even if your'e not. By that I mean that there may very well be others in your family who have reasonable doubts about the WTS's legitamacy, and certainly in your congregation, but it is best if you keep it to yourself for the time being. Do not let anyone set your exit schedule and strategy for you! -

"What complete science does explain life?"
Exactly. True science will never attempt to offer a theory on life and how we should live it. -

Romans 14:1-3 (NWT)
Welcome the [man] having weaknesses in [his] faith, but not to make decisions on inward questionings. 2 One [man] has faith to eat everything, but the [man] who is weak eats vegetables. 3 Let the one eating not look down on the one not eating, and let the one not eating not judge the one eating, for God has welcomed that one.
So what this is saying, IMO, is that it is OK to have doubts. Just don't make decision based on sole doubt - verify your belief, which may verify why you are wrong OR right.
However, I'm not too sure about the truth of this scripture - and why a "weak man" can only eat vegetables. The fact is, EVERYONE has doubts; the only difference is just in how far we are willing to go in rationalizing our belief. Abraham was willing to go so far as to kill his son - I don't think any person whom we consider to be sane would have enough "faith" to do that - and neither am I sure that a good God would want me to "prove" my faith in such a manner. -

"BUT DAMN! Let people have their own experiences and the joys that comes to them through those experiences without throwing a wet blanket on it."
I'm sorry to throw a wet-blanket on anything here. But Onesong mentioned in the first post that this movie offers a theory on life. At the same time, they admit the science of quantum physics is ever-changing and their understanding of it is far from complete. I don't believe it is a good idea to form a theory for life based on the interpretations of an incomplete science explained by alternative doctors and scientists. The movie does try the self-effacing approach, but it still purports to be more than entertainment. -

Onesong,
About the "conscious water" thing, the man's name was Dr. Masaru Emoto - a doctor of alternative medicine. You can read about his experiments here: -

Onesong,
About the "conscious water" thing, the man's name was Dr. Masaru Emoto - a doctor of alternative medicine. You can read about his experiments here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masaru_Emoto#The_controversy
I was mistaken in saying he did not inform people the beore pics were liquid and the after pictures were frozen. His experiments were in noticing the chnages involved in solidifying.
I won't go into in the controversy here, I don't want to start a debate, but there is sufficient controversy involved concerning his experiments and it just put a damper on the otherwise interesting experience of What the Bleep Do We Know.
