Jehovah's Witnesses Rewarded for Promoting Tourism
by Kenneson inin jefferson county, texas, jehovah's witnesses are listed as one of 20 groups that will share in occupancy tax money to promote tourism-related events and projects.. "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses, $10,000 bid fee for convention.".
i suppose their convention will boost the economy by filling up the hotels and restaurants, etc.. see "20 groups divy up hotel occupancy taxes".

Transit-occupancy tax (tot) is generated when people buy a room at a motel. What this article is pointing out is the amount of money generated by a specific city's JW convention in TOT tax. This money is then spent on boosting tourism, chamber of commerce activities, etc. The WTS is not voluntarily giving this money to tourist promotion because this tax is generated by individuals associated with temporary event taking place in the city. In this case of bidding for a convention, everyone has to do it. The money then goes to the same activites listed above. Believe me this is nothing new.

Do you think the Greenhouse affect is man-made or a natural cycle?
by free2beme ini hear a lot about the greenhouse affect, in the news and in environmental movements.
i also studied this topic when i was in college and remember seeing a lot of information on how many of these weather changes that are attributed to the greenhouse affect, have repeated themselves many times throughout history and are expected to do so again.
so when i read these topics in the news and see how much greenpeace and other ultra enviro-terror groups ignore the other side of the story.

I dont THINK it's both, it IS both. In the scientific realm, the contest to that is rapidly dwindling. The controversy starts in when people suggest the implications, try to predict the future, or dictate the way we should respond. The way I look at it is this: there are hundreds of thousands of people working on this problem all over the globe, doing research and not trying to prove anything, but letting the evidence prove itself. But, when the media gets a hold of it, it is so easy to distort what someone said, that the average layman (whether redneck or environmentalist) sitting at home gets all up in arms and acquires a new rant to go on about. I say for people to just sit back and relax and trust (just a little bit) these people who have devoted their lives to studying it and know a hell of a lot more than we do right here.

Sweden to be 100% oil free for energy production by 2020
by greendawn inthey have some politicians with good foresight in sweden and they are on course to becoming totally oil free in 15 years, even vehicles will not use gasoline, and given the tripling of oil prices in 10 years that is a wise decision, after all oil will run out sooner or later.
already only a third of its energy comes from oil.
if only more countries were as environmentally sensitive, instead of bush just saying that the usa is addicted to oil he should do something about it.

Interesting. They actually understand the nature of substitution of goods and how TRUE substitution is not obtaining a good from a distant source (OPEC or not) but utilizing a different good altogether. All these people saying more oil availabily will help curb prices are sadly wrong. Its substitution of oil that will take the pressure of petroleum products, not the gathering of more elsewhere. Basic economics for you.
