The thread killer threads, which have no real topic, seem to last for a long time and attract a lot of posts. Music threads seem to last a while as well, and discussions on 607/586/7 attract a lot of long posts, especially if there are a few jw apologists trying to support the wts position.

Why are people so afraid to question the authenticity of the Bible...
by zeroday infor thousands of years people have taken the bible as the word of god.

What's this business of "submitting to a religion"? What's wrong with just going and enjoying what you get out of it? Are you sure its not some residue of WTS belief that makes you think that by walking in the door of a church / synagogue / temple you are submitting to something??? Its worth trying sometime - it can be very cathartic!
I agree with you there Ross.
I haven't been to church much since I left the watchtower, just a couple of times to support my friend Marion, and the first time I went, about 6 - 7 months ago, I must admit I had what I now recognise as a completely irrational fear of becoming involved again. Actually,I've enjoyed both visits, and would probably go again. In some ways, going there like taking another step along the way of my journey away from the wtbts. The congregation were very friendly, happy to see me, but made no attempt to coerce me into getting involved, which was what I was afraid would happen when I initially agreed to go.
Looking at it now, I guess it was some residue, as you put it, of my watchtower experience that caused the feelings I had about going there. There was nothing to fear at all, as it turned out.

Our Neighbours are learning!
by fullofdoubtnow inwe live in a block of 6 flats, with communal security doors at the front and back.
apart from between 7am and 10am every day, when the trades entrance button will open the front security door, no one can get in here unless they have a fob to open the security doors with, or unless one of the residents lets them in.. the jws were just at the front security door, obviously getting their hour in after the morning meeting.
they don't ring our bell, they know better, so they were ringing the other bells.

Hi BR25, and welcome to the forum
Not everyone agrees with jws, but that doesnt mean there has to be a lack of disrespect
I assume you meant respect here, there is certainly no lack of disrespect for the jws in this house! We are both atheists, but we do respect other religions apart from the jws. They have done nothing to earn our respect, and therefore don't receive it.
As for having a laugh at their expense, we both endured enough misery while in their organisation, so if we get the opportunity to laugh at their misfortunes, we invariably take it.

Cult of the century
by ninja injw's are really sneaky........ scientologists will try to destroy anyone who dares cross them...the moonies are really hardworking.....who wins the cult of the century award?....please don't be biased in your judgement on this jw board..."independent thinking only" needed purleeeeease

I'd say that the scientologists seem to be the most dangerous of the 21st century, though the jws push them.
The most deadly cult of modern times would perhaps be Peoples Temple, in terms of so many lives lost in such a short time period.

Thats remarkable how you remembered that entire conversation word for word. Did you tape it perhaps?
No, we didn't tape it, but we wish we had, we'd probably have put it on youtube.
We could hear everything they were saying, and I posted it immediately. It's more or less exactly what was said.

Consumers are just buying chocolate instead of god.
That's so true Crumpet.
I've had a little chocolate this easter, but I haven't bothered with god, nor do I intend to.

New Policy on the Do Not Calls
by SirNose586 inif you're on the do not call list and you live in the us, or if you want to join it so you can be left alone, i have good news: at the last meeting, the congregation was informed that from now on, "dncs are supposed to be checked on by telephone, not at the door by publishers.
do not call to update the records.
a group of brothers will be assigned to check on these by telephone.".
-
fullofdoubtnow
We are a do not call, and being da'd they don't bother us, but I reckon a lot of people who never were jws would rather they didn't call either.
I think it would be excellent if the general public could be advised of this possibility en mas
So do we Crumpet, we will be spreading the word.

The pain we felt
by KW13 ini'm not talking just about being blanked by old friends and family or having people distancing themselves from you - i'm on about what the organization did to us.
the days when so many of us didn't want to carry on and couldn't possibly or when there didn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel.. i feel better now but i still have my bad days - i cant believe the society get to walk away from the chaos they create.
they have blood on their hands!.

I know what you mean KW, the org has a lot to answer for in my opinion.
For me, the shunning doesn't bother me now I'm used to it. The jws have nothing to say that I want to hear anyway, so I might shun them if they ever try and talk to me again. It's the way they duped me into wasting over half my life trying, and usually failing in my mind, to be good enough to get into paradise, only to find that it was all a pipedream anyway, and that I'd been part of a high - control cult all these years. I'm far more angry about that than I ever will be about being shunned
I doubt the WTBTS ever considered many years ago the vast reaching power of the internet. To have thousands of ex JW's together telling our stories and experiences for the whole world to see can be nothing short of a nightmare for the WTBTS.
I remember they started having talks warning about the dangers of the internet in the 90's, but it was more to warn us of the perils of taking part in chat rooms. I doubt they foresaw what a powerful tool the web would become in the hands of those opposed to their teachings, but they sure know about it now.
