I am sorry to hear that, but she is acting in accordance with what she has been taught, which most of here did at one time. I'm sure that she will miss you as much as you miss her, and maybe one day she will realise how wrong that teaching is.

Would Any of You be Interested in going Door to Door?
by smellsgood inas part of a cult awareness campaign of sorts???
to de-ignorize (new word) householders and give them tools for engaging a cult member on their door step?
i had that idea and got some positive feedback...so, any of you would find that something you would want to participate in ?

I thought the reason apostates left was so they didn't need to go door to door
I assume that was a joke, SBF?
While it's a relief not to have to do that any more, it wasn't the reason I left, I simply didn't believe in watchtower bs anymore.
As for going door to door in an anti-jw campaign, I doubt it would be that effective, and Im not sure it's really necessary nowadays. The jws get very little success on the door to door work anyway, and someone following them around warning householders not to listen to them might even make some people decide to actually listen and accept their bs litereature. I wouldn't do anything that might have the slightest chance of encouraging anyone to listen to the jws, I wouldn't want that on my conscience.
Apart from that, the watchtower is doing enough to sink their own ship, with all the publicity about covering up child abuse cases they've had lately, and are likely to have in the future. While people would be unlikely, to say the least, to be interested in reasons why they are a cult and should not be listened to, most are interested in the type of scandal that results from news of such cases being made public. I really can't see anyone wanting to join an organisation that might put their children at risk.
Another reason why ex jws going door to door could backfire IMHO is that it would give the org yet another opportunity to promote the persecution complex we all know they have amongst their followers. It might even convince some who may be having doubts about the watchtower now think that maybe they do have the truth after all.

How about birthdays?
by molybdenum inhi... i'm a newbie here.
i have been associated with jw's for quite some time however there is one aspect of being a witness that i can't quite come to terms with that is the prohibition on celebrating a person's birthday i have of course read the arguments for this but find them somewhat unconvincing.
is it really the case that everyone follows this direction?

Hi molybdenum, and welcome to the forum.
As with many of their rules, the "scriptural" reason for the watchtower's prohibition of birthday celebrations is entirely to do with their own interpretation of the bible. However, as they are a very persuasive and controlling organisation, they are able to convince the vast majority of their followers to accept the ruling. Those who don't tend to be disciplined, and eventually disfellowshipped from the org.
I accepted it for 25 years myself - I celebrated my 21st birthday, pre-jw, and didn't celebrate another birthday until I was 47, and had disassociated nyself from the organisation. My advice to you is that you should think very carefully before making any commitment to this cult, because if you do, you will be expected to comply with every rule in the book, of which there are many. If you don't, you will be disciplined by the elders, and ostracized by your fellow jws.

My D/A letter
by done4good inafter managing a successful fade, the long thread started by nvrgnbk made me think a bit.
up until then, i maintained a fairly hardline stance that the borg would need to d/f me if they really wanted me "out".
but then, i began to consider a few things.

Great letter done4good.
I agree with you, if you don't benefit in any way from being an inctive jw, there is no point remaining one. Also, it gets you off their list of inactive ones that might receive a future "encouraging" visit from the elders or even the co. One of the main reasons I da'd was to avoid such visits myself.

They do say that there's no fool like an old fool. I think they're right
In a talk before the baptism ceremony, speaker LaRon Pool
At least the speaker has a PERFECT name for someone conducting a baptismal talk lol.

Were you ever a victim of slander?
by Fleshybirdfodder inseems a dear brother was under the impression i had slighted him somehow (to this day i still have no idea what i did), and moved to the city telling everyone about strange masturbatory practices i partook in.
i have no problem admitting i'm an active participant of wining, dining and self seduction, but the things he cooked up in his head were disgusting (even to a perv like me .

I was after I'd left. There were rumours circulating the kh, presumably started by the elders, who were the origin of most of the gossip at my kh, as to why I'd da'd. Most of them were about all the "god-dishonouring" practices that I was now supposed to be indulging in, and I'd left because I didn't want to meet jehovah's standards. It seemed that they were putting out any story but the real one, which I put in my da letter - that I'd researched the watchtower doctrines, and come to the conclusion that they didn't have the truth, but were merely another cult.

Why go to schooll if you are a jw?
by fullofdoubtnow ini just watched this video about the watchtower view of education at the end of the 1960's, when they were looking forward to the "end" coming in 1975. they haven't changed their attitude much either, from what i've read of late.

Why are there so few, not that there are none at all, but so very few University educated people in the Watchtower Society?
I used to wonder that, Gill, when I first associated with the jws at 21.
At the time, I was the only person in my congregation who had been to university, I finished my degree course before I started studying. Apart from a couple of people, no one had stayed at school beyond 16 either. In my 25 years as a jw, I only met one other person who had been to uni, and he isn't a jw now either.
It just seems to be something they don't do, obviously due to the watchtowers negative view of it.
