FODN- do you expect ANYONE but a Ctholic to buy that???? The Catholics don't even know who GOD is- much less His Kingdom! I was a Catholic- I'm not saying that as an insult!

Well Mad, I wouldn't expect a brainwashed jw, which you indicated you are in your reply to Seeker4, to accept anything other than watchtower bs.

The Catholics have differrent beliefs to you. That doesn't make them wrong, any more than it makes jws right. And as for forcing their beliefs on others, I've seen far too many kids of jws blackmailed into being baptised at the age of 9 or10 to believe that the wts don't force their beliefs on people. Still, they have to keep the numbers up, and not too many adults in the western world are responding these days, eh Mad? Have you made any disciples lately?

Close friend needs advice -- about to be cut off and lose inheritance

this is a plea from a close friend of mine who is a 4th or 5th generation jw who left a few years ago due to the wt's corruption.

she lives next door to her mother and now another jw family related to her.

she is looking for any advice from any of you that has been in a similar situation, how you dealt with it, and her options.

I hope that helps your friend. I should be shocked by the behaviour of her jw relatives, and would have been a few years ago, but nowadays I expect it. They are part of a business pretending to be a religion, run by greedy, power-crazed geriatrics, and I suppose some of them are influenced by the behaviour of their leaders.

I hope your friend sorts her problems out, please give her my love and best wishes.

Yes Mad, that is what the bible says, and, as Satanus pointed out, the Roman Catholic church did this work long before the jws were even thought of.

And please don't insult my intelligence by telling me only the jws teach the truth, they didn't teach me any in the 25 years I was one. You have to know the truth to teach it, and thewatchtower is sadly lacking in that department imho.

Whats the "rule" on shepherding calls?

i dont remember that much, but arent they suppose to stop by at least once a year to df'd ones?

or did that change?.

its coming up to two years now since i was df'd, and not one elder has stopped by...........not that i want them to!.

I didn't have a shepherding visit for the last 3 years I was a jw, but when I started missing meetings, the elders were ringing almost every day, and even tried a surprise visit one night. Even after I'd handed in my da letter, they rand a few times to see if I was sure I knew what I was doing,

Shepherding visits seem to be one of the forgotten duties on the elder bodys' these days.

Did You Do Business With JWs Thinking They Would Obviously Be More Honest?

i know many people did business with me because i was an elder and had to be honest.

i never cheated anybody anyway because it's simply not right but i know a lot of witnesses that were "screwed" by other witnesses......what about you??

I was never personally ripped off by jws, though I let a brother wash my windows, and he was more expensive than the "worldly" man I'd had before.

I knew a brother who sold his car to another jw though, and the jw buying the car arranged to pay by instalments. It was a "gentlemans agreement", nothing in writing. The jw buying the car paid two instalments, then refused to pay any more. The jw selling the car couldn't do anything, as there was no written agreement.

So much for honesty among jah's people!

next weekend is a bit special for trev and i, and we are going off on holiday on sunday (25th) to spend 8 days relaxing on the meditterranean island of sardinia.

Scriptural Proof/Support for the "New Light" doctrine?

so i've been thinking a lot about the whole new light thing - how exactly is that justified in the bible by the dubs?

i can't remember anything other than the scripture they quote but there has to be more to it than that!

They do use Proverbs 4:18 as one of their"proof" texts for the new light doctrine, in fact the main one if I remember correctly. As usual, where the wts is concerned, it's quoted out of context. The whole passage, from verse 14, reads

14 Into the path of the wicked ones do not enter, and do not walk straight on into the way of the bad ones. 15 Shun it, do not pass along by it; turn aside from it, and pass along. 16 For they do not sleep unless they do badness, and their sleep has been snatched away unless they cause someone to stumble. 17 For they have fed themselves with the bread of wickedness, and the wine of acts of violence is what they drink. 18 But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established. 19 The way of the wicked ones is like the gloom; they have not known at what they keep stumbling

It's quite clearly talking about the two paths someone might choose, and has nothing whatsoever to do with new light on scriptural understanding.
