  do you remember when we used to ask for a 'contribution that covers the printing cost' for the mags?.

  was that ever the real cost of printing the mags?

  afterall, we had to pay for the wretched things when we collected them, so was the wt society already making a profit from us foolish sheep which we then tried to recoup from the unsuspecting public.. were we conned?

  I remember it only too well

  Was that ever the real cost of printing the mags? Afterall, we had to pay for the wretched things when we collected them, so was the WT Society already making a profit from us foolish sheep which we then tried to recoup from the unsuspecting public.

  The real cost was and still is a fraction of what we paid for them The watchtower obviously made a huge profit, a testament to the cash value of making prophecies I suppose, even though they all failed

  • Were we conned? yes
  • Were we robbed? definitely, especially after the literature became "free"
  • Were we given false information? Everything printed by the watchtower is false information
  • Can we ask for a refund? It would be interesting to try, but we all know what the answer would be lol

  Is the Society embarrassed to mention Disfellowshipping / Shunning Policy?

  is the watchtower society secretly a little embarrassed by its shunning / disfellowshipping policy.. i haven't seen much in the way of instructions on how to deal with the 'lliving dead' in the watchtower and awake magazines in the last few years.

  they tend to talk about df'd persons as 'choosing a course of life that leads to df ing rather than that harsh nitty gritty of how to treat or rather mistreat such people.. is this mistreatment only discussed in the kingdom ministry pamphlets now and deliberately kept hush hush?.

  i should imagine the high mortatlity rate due to df ing leading to suicides could be very embarrassing for the organization..

  By keeping it a secret DF'd individuals can be gossiped about and scandal spread about them and the myth kept going that 'we only DF or shun people who cannot live up to Jehovah's (WT) standards. Less embarrassment and shame on the bOrg and more on the individual.

  That's exactly what happened to everyone who was df'd or who da'd themselves from the hall I went to. It was always because they didn't want to meet jah's standards, never because they'd seen through the bs, according to the elders anyway, who were and most likely still are the source of all the gossip.

  That's why shunning is so useful to them - those still in the org only get to hear one side of the story.

  As for being embarassed about the policy, the watchtower leaders are far too arrogant in their self-delusion of having the "truth" to feel embarassment, but I imagine they might be a little pi$$*d off when ex jws put the real reason they left on boards like this one, knowing that ther is a danger that some unsuspecting jw may venture in, read the story, and maybe start wondering themselves.

  ..Creative Insults..

  every once in awhile people will get choked with each other and name call..usually it`s not that creative..sh*thead..assh*le..ect..then there`s my favorites like hillary_step..that guy can insult an idiot and it`s unlikely the person will ever get it..lol!

  A friend of ours has a way of complimenting and insulting at the same time.

  For example, last time we saw her, she remarked to Trev how distinguished his grey hair looks, then added that it would look even better if he combed it more often.

  Since there is no chance whatsoever that the jws are right, I have nothing to fear.

  They are as "right" now as they were in 1914,1915,1918,1925 and 1975 which, in case you are not aware of the fact, were all years in which the watchtower prophesied this "system" would end. They are false prophets, and do you know how jah regards false prophets?

  Deuteronomy 18:20-22:

  20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death."

  21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

  Judging by the watchtower's past record with prophecy, they have spoken presumptiously a few times, and will therefore be destroyed by god if he does exist, which I don't believe personally

  Are you sure you use to be a witness?

  If you are asking me this question, the answer is yes, for almost 25 years between the ages of 21 and 46, when I disassociated.

  I don't believe in any of the watchtower bs now. I left because I KNOW from my research into the religion that they are false prophets, and a high control cult. They don't control me anymore, and won't do again.

  If you want to believe their crap, that's your decision. Just don't expect too many people on this forum to agree with it.

  Well, 8:07 here in the UK, and no sign of the big A yet...

  ariana, you can't have learned much from the jws, you used the "L" word

  He is a God of love so lucky for you even with your insulting words to a stranger he still waits for you to turn your life around and serve him so you can have a chance to keep on living, for that is the whole reason why we were created in the first place.

  No jw uses that word, though us ex jws do, we are lucky to have escaped that cult

  That IS a good question, MUNKA!

  I suppose in times past, when husbands were the breadwinners and wives generally stayed at home to raise the kids, they were more likely to encounter jws at the door. Maybe that was the reason.

  I don't think either men or women are responding in droves to the jws door-to-door ministry nowadays. They don't find that many people in any more.

  I wasn't here when you first posted this,Juni, so I've seen it for the first time today. Those comments about Ballistic's ass - lol. I wouldn't have known what LMFAO and other abbreviations meant if I hadn't asked Trev when I first joined the forum. I avoided those type of threads when I started posting. I wasn't long out of the org then, and still felt guilty about even reading about sex, let alone posting about it. I've changed my views somewhat since then!

  I sometimes look back at my early posts and think "did I really say that?!" I remember "losing it" on a thread about 607 with a jw apologist, and I wasn't just typing angry comments, I WAS angry. Trev had a tough time calming me down, and convincing me it's only a web board. I think I've matured quite a bit since then, as the majority of those of us who are here fairly regularly do.

  im only an interested one at the moment but as i surf around the net i keep seeing sites talking about false prophesies from the witnesses (dooms day etc) id like an unbiased opinion as to where i can get more info as the witnesses here in new zealand tell me they have never heard of them, thanks?

  By no monetary gain, do you mean no collections at meetings and no charge for literature?

  While it is true that they don't "pass the plate", as some churches do, they do remind their members of their obligation to support the organisation, and expect those who distribute the literature to contribute for it themselves. They also suggest asking for voluntary contributions from those who take their literature on the door to door work if they inquire about cost. If you go to the theocratic ministry school/service meetings on a midweek night, that is where they usually read out congregation accounts reports and reminders about contributions from members.

  Also, a feature every assembly and convention I ever attended, and I attended a lot, is an announcement by an elder on the final afternoon, that the "cost of this assembly is £.....", and the "contributions are £....". The contributions are always well below the cost, and this announcement is followed by a plea to those present to make up the shortfall out of their own pockets. Many of the assemblies I attended were in halls owned by the watchtower society, where the only real expenses would have been amenities like water, gas and electricity, but even so the cost was always allegedly over £1,000 more than the level of contributions.

  There is a financial cost to being a jw, and it's not the only cost. If you become one, you will be expected to give up your time and ultimately your freedom of thought to the organisation. However well-meaning these people seem to be, their leaders are out to control you. Stay well clear of them.
