  a woman named amanda started hearing a voiced telling them that a comet was going to destroy the earth.

  they bought a house in the north carolina mountains to prepare, thinking the voice belongs to the dead former owner of the house.

  My brother in law is a prepper - he has something like 5000 rounds of .223, etc. Thinks he can go up into the wilderness and survive when the revolution comes.

  You cannot reason with this type of person - nothing will make them see that if the basic infrastructure fails completely, an assault rifle is not going to provide sufficient food, shelter, and services to let them live on in isolation.

  It is strangely similar to the JW view of instant paradise on earth after all the support facilities are destroyed at Armageddon.

  Of course, they trust in Jehovah rather than an AK-47.

  With all the information /input thats been volunteered to this site , surely someone could produce a book tapping the wealth of information that is contained from contributors.

  i am sure i am not alone in being overwhelmed at the knowledge,insight , and practical advice given on this board , surely someone somewhere can put this wealth of information ,condensced into a book that can help others out their .. smiddy.

  144,000 before 1935?

  i've always thought about this but have never received an answer on how the wbts explaiend the phenomenon.... to my understanding, every member of the wbts had the heavenly hope...however, by 2 classes were created...the heavenly, and earthly hope.... does anyone know the number of jw's as of that famous assembly of 1935 where the earthly hope was revealed and imposed?.

  what is the wbts explanation for the thousands of jw's who had heavenly hope now all of a sudden have the earthly hope?.

  this leads me to one conclusion...how dare this or any other organization determine what your hope or believe should be...shame on them.

  The important point we may be missing here is that there were clearly more than 144,000 christians long before 1000 C.E. - not just before 1935.

  The notion that the Russellites/JWs were the only (and the first) real christians is just pure hubris.

  And very stupic hubris at that.

  simple ideas=simplified language.. but, as we attempt to convey accuracy, specificity and numerical precision--what then?

  English is an evolving language.

  Quark was a non-word when James Joyce made it up...it has now become one of the most important words in science, and by extension - in good English.

  but i ask, why did the men that were annointed not immediately appointed as an elder, and then a circuit overseer and so on up the ranks.

  it would seem to me, that if god saw them fit to rule in heaven.

  I knew a Circuit Overseer who was a "young annointed" - started partaking while he was at Bethel in the early 1960s. He told me that "new annointed" are watched carefully for a time to see if they were "real" - in other words, that they have to pretty much meet the same path to promotion as non-annointed do.

  Therefore, he denied that being annointed got him into the circuit work more easily...

  For what it is worth, he also was completely unable to explain to me in convincing terms how he "knew" he was annointed.

  Sickening Dilemma

  i would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.

  i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.

  the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.
