i can't find the quote for this but i remember being told that jw children were way ahead of their classmates when it came to reading and spelling.
both my daughters knew how to read before they got to school.. i remember writing school reports and using the awake!

as a bit of a newbie , i'm interested as to the overall viewpoint of site users and spectrum of views.. using a crude gauge , where 1 = completely convinced "stepford"jw ("jhs organisation is wonderful etc") and 10 is a completely rabid "tear down the tower" apostate/ex-witness pathalogically hating the whole jw structure , where do you fit in?
(apolgies to both groups - no offense intended).. i'm about 2.5 - somewhat disillusioned , keen for reforms in certain areas but broadly accepts the teachings and loves the lifestyle.

recently my mother and sister have cut me out of their lives.
they made it quite clear that they don't want anything to do with me anymore, my mother going so far as to change her will (not that there was much there anyways).. i have not da, am not df, have never said anything to anyone in my family about my doubts or what i have uncovered about this religion, i just stopped going to meetings.
(i usually go to the dc with her, and some ca, and the memorial at her cong.).

i have been reading this forum for a couple of years now and i know this point has been made before but i truly think it needs to be repeated.
i am not, nor ever was, a jw and only arrived here to acquaint myself with "jw-ism" because a friend had joined up.
i needed to study up on stuff so i'd be prepared to (try to) understand where she was coming from with all her new oddball dogmas.
well i was kinda forced into it, and yes i ask myself how i allowed myself to be taken by them for so long, then i realised i didnt have much choice... my parents made me, then whenever i expressed any doubt, it would be beaten out of me... i think my saving grace was that i always had an extremely open mind... and i guess the scholarly aspect came from my want to go against everything they said... it was wrong, so i looked to read as much as possible... thats why i left, they didnt want me in university, so i moved out!!

ive been watching my number of posts climb towards 2,000 in recent days.. it seemed a good time to contemplate what ive learned in the two years, seven months and five days (according to my profile) since i joined the interactive fray although i lurked here for more than a year while i was a jw elder.
during that time, i read every single post starting with the first page and caught up.
of course, its impossible to read every one now, its so big, but it's been quite an education.

some of you might remember my situation....i have daed myself a while ago, and my father is the only jw in the family.
since i am very close to him and the family, he has read everything related to shunning, he even asked elders and even them are not sure.
so he wrote a big long letter to bethel to have an answer.
i hope they realize that the drunkards and thiefs and idolaters and fornicators are also part of their fuckin flock... the elders, the ministerial servants are the worst of all... they appoint these bastards, they let them do whatever the fuck they please, they give them power to make us hurt, do basically whatever they want, but when someone decides they want nothing to do with a cult, they are shunned because they are starting to do whatever the elders do, whether or not this is true...
i for one am not into idol worship, im not a drunkiard, and so on and so forth, im a beter person today than i was when i was in their "truth" and yet they want to label me as an evil drunk, philandering bastard....

this morning i had the most bizarre subway ride.
i board the number 3 train at grand army plaza after 9 a.m. find a seat, then settle into reading henry james for class.
that was awesome..... i had a seventh day adventist in a wheel chair talking to me today.... he treied to get me to sign some book to say that jesus has my heart or something... and when i said no, that i would take the book but i aint signing shit, he started yelling at me and telling me i was going to hell... well i said stop yelling at me... i asked him if he was sure he was gonna still be a seventh day adventist in his next life.... HE FLIPPED, called me the son of the devil and that i was doomed for eternal damnation.... and he said that the devil put me in this earthly paradise to tempt him to be vengeful or something like that, i dont remember clearly.... when he started spitting at me that god gave him everything he had and he was eternally grateful to god for that, i said "did he forget to give you working legs???" and i pranced around him and ran away!!!
