A Bad experience with JW is a permit for SIN?

i've been reading some sad experinces here... i dont see anyone talking about the bible... only how misserables the organization made their lives... ok ...so because of that...now i have permission to smoke marijuana and commit fornication?

this sounds pretty much like aa... and everybody having his/her personal "superior power" who is giving them the permit to do whatever they want...

i've been df for 4 years now and also dont agree with some jw teachings... why instead of blaming the wt for everything dont we look for the real truth in the bible and make things right.

Perhaps because you are now in the "Personal experiences and reunions" section. You want the " Bible Research & Study Articles " or the " Beliefs, Doctrine & Practices " sections of JWD.

Not everyone who has denounced and renounced the Watchtower organization has turned into your stereotypical fornicating, pot-smoking athiest heathen. That is an unfair remark. There are still Bible-thumpers, Born-again Xians, political conservatives and their liberal contemporaries here on JWD.

So don't worry, you're not alone.

Went to a Public Talk and WT Study, after about 5 yrs away.

it was boring,,snooze city, there were room for a bout 200 and they didn't have more than 40 in attendance very few youths mostly older ones(30 and beyound).

i didn't have a clue what the speaker was saying thank god i came a 1/2 late, those poor poor people that have to sit thru such mind numbing drival about how we are to treat people in the congregation and not to be jealous bla bla bla.

the wt the reader was drone the conductor brain dead and every body answered the wt by practically reading their answer word for word from the wt,, it was pitiful,,pitiful.

I think paying a married lady a compliment: telling her that she is attractive or joking that it is a pity she is married is VERY DIFFERENT from brashly asking her out to on a date and contemplating what sexual education she migh be lacking.

If the JW sister found it flattering would she have told frankie TWICE that she was a married woman? Why didn't she laugh with him or give him a friendly punch on the shoulder? His narrative suggests that the sister was rather alarmed AND NOT AMUSED by his suggestion.

I see no need to lighten up when such behaviour isn't funny. One does not give a positive twist to "sleaze" when the very action was intentionally sleazy. That was no comedy act. Frankie confessed he would have bonked her had she given him the chance.

I got closer to her I told how pretty she looked, she said thanks and I asked out for coffee where she could explain the magazine, she said she was married and the offer refused. I pretended interest in her witnessing and she said she had to go, and that she hopes to see me again at the meetings, I said sure and then we could go out for coffee, to which she reminded me she was married to which I said bring him along too.

Let me tell you she was about 30 something and probably tired of the missionary position, and without any oral or cliteral stimulation by her husband, If I could only get her to let go and experience the time of her life, she seemed to like me flirting and only as duty told me about her husband. Poor thing raised in the truth and perhaps never a wild naughty girl.

A rebellious puff outside the Hall, followed by an unabashed chatting-up of a married lady.

Hooray for red-blooded machismo and naked male bravado!! Your lusty sense of humour almost made me forget the meaning of "SLEAZE". Keep congratulating yourself, frankiespeakin.

So what you're saying is that the word in dispute (which NWT translates as "genital organ" and other translations either "issue" or "emission") is zirmah . And this is the ONLY occurrence of the word in the OT, thus it is hard to work out what it definitely means. (Zerem might be a clue if it is derived from zirmah , and zerem means "violent shower". !!Mental flash of scenes from Scary Movies 1 and 2!!)

Basically, to capture the parallelism in Ezekiel 23:20, either translate the donkey basar, horse zirmah, more synonymously as the NWT has done. Or translate basar/zirmah as penis/ejaculation, which is less synonymous but possibly closer to the original meaning of zirmah.

Contextual accuracy aside, is this case an example of how the NWT did not translate closer to the original meaning of the word, as JWs often claim?

Athiest Elders?

this thought is inspired by hopie's thread about going undercover to rescue her daughter.. i have often wondered if any others have done the same, but for differing reasons?

before i left, and when i had become aware that something was wrong with the 'men appointed by holy spirit' doctrine that elevates elders to the full rank of pharisee, i considered the possibility of moving to an area in which i was unknown and beginning the correct politics needed to 'make elder'.

i wanted to see if i could go from disgruntled, unsure this was even god's organization, to 'elder in shekinah light standing' in less than two years.

It's not just the tedium of climbing up the JW hierarchy.

I could never bring myself to give those talks where I would tell youths to avoid higher education, to avoid worldly peers, to obey more, think less. I cannot bring myself to tell the brothers that the arbitrary blood doctrine is Bible based and watch them lose loved ones in emergencies. The cost of pretense is too high. It would be worse than if I had unknowingly caused them suffering like a typical ambitious and devout Dub.

And if one cannot suffer to deliver the Watchtower mandates, how could one succeed in becoming an "elder bathed in shekinah light"?

I can see that "sown with seed", or "conceive seed" would make poetic sense. And yes the phrase "pregnant with semen" is unnecessarily tedious. The NWT does try too hard doesn't it? Thanks for your feedback.

But Crumpet, that is exactly what the NWT is saying: "they like their men hung like donkeys, hung like horses"

By contrast, the other translations are saying: "they like their men hung like donkeys, ejaculating like horses."

I can see that some are already doing eye-rolls. But I can't help myself. I just have to know why the NWT would choose to go against the prevailing choice of words. I'm inquisitive!! For starters, I wish someone out there could tell me what the original word should be translated as.

WTBTS or IBSA

the other day, i was in a local half-price bookstore.

just out of curiosity, i went down the 'religious' isle, and sure enuf, i saw a couple of publications by the witnesses wedged in with the usual other things, bible-related.. i also saw a spanish printed something-or-other... a recent publication (although i don't remember the copyright date).

i was looking at the information, and it said something like.... published by the watchtower bible and trach society and international bible students association ... etc.

It looks like it's just a European arm of the wts Jim, seeing as the head office seems to be in London, so maybe it wouldn't be publicised that much in the USA. - fullofdoubtnow

I gather that IBSA is currently a legal corporation under JW administration. However the name used to represent the collective group of Bible Students who are loyal to Pastor Russell. To this day, Pastor Russell's Bible Students are quick to point out that they are NOT Jehovah's Witnesses. The IBSA office may be standing in London, but the splinter groups(formerly Associated Bible Students, aka IBSA) can still be found in the USA.
