Denial-A familiar story
by cornish inits amazing how many, after seeing the damning evidence of the video featuring bin laden talking about the attrocities,dismiss it as a doctored fake etc,they just cannot accept the possibility it might be true,it just seems like what ever evidence is presented it will be dissmissed as not to be trusted,just what would they accept as proof,nothing it seems.. havent we heard this all before somewhere?.

i have another one for you.. one december afternoon back in the late 1980s my mom and i were looking out of my back sliding glass doors.. we could see a santa clause sneaking around the side of my neighbors house and then he climbed into their house through a bedroom window.. we thought we were seeing a burglary in progress!.

My Auntie who is not a witness told me that back in the early 1950's,when my father joined the witnesses,he told her that the end would be in the next few years,and he moved in to a caravan trailer and pioneered,living like a hermit,he was a young man then,now he is in his late 70,s and still believes the end is just ahead,the Watchtower heirachy,seem to have the ability to instill in their members that the end is always,just ahead,and frighten the members with a deep fear that the moment you stop believing this is when it will come and you will loose out.
I also believe that there is a great deal of pride involved for many,for instance my father would have to admit to himself that all those years of investment in the Watchtower have been wasted and he will not get the promised payout,and also it is hard for a proud human being to admit they have been taken in,too much to bear,so it is easier to contiue contributing to the delusion than face the facts.
When I was a witness I came to the conclusion that if the Society ever back tracked on the literal generation of 1914 then I would not swallow it bearing in mind they had staked Gods name on that promise,actually I left about 6 months before they back tracked on the so called,'Creators Promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 would pass away,'and was not supprized when they did.
I think it is so sad when I think of all those people who have died who trusted so much they would live to see the Watchtowers promises,I can think of so many,and also those who are old and facing death and thought they would never have too.
Back when I fist left the Witnesses myself and some friends did a demo outside the Kingdom Hall,my banner read,'Millions Who Thought They Would Never Die,Are Now Dead! -

Another question about the Governing Body
by ballistic inwhat is the actual mechanism by which god reveals his truth to the governing body.
the governing body have admitted to having made mistakes so it can be logically stated that this mechanism is by nature flawed.. while true that god only has very imperfect people to act as "the faithfull and discreet slave", there is no reason why he would use a flawed or imperfect method of transferring this "life saving" information to them.. the governing body has been very quiet about what this method actually consists of.. surely they must also be aware that delusions of a religious nature are common in various mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
is there any way of judging whether truths are the product of ones own mind, if not the product of the devil.

In the period towards my exit from the JWs.I used to mull over this,I couldnt understand why when the Governing body wanted you to do as you were told they would speak with the authority of inspiration,ie,do as you are told and believe what we tell you because its from God.On the other hand when flaws and contradictions arise from this they would print articles stating that they are just humans like us who make mistakes,so in effect they are saying,on one hand,its from God,and on the other hand its from imperfect humans,they want things both ways when it suits them.
They want all the power and authority of an inspired prophet but accept none of the responsibility.
If they admitted they were a bunch of self appointed men the whole house of cards would fall. -
