You Know The Truth

each of us has the ability to discern the truth about ourselves and about life in general.

we must use the ability to keep it strengthened against propaganda, manipulation and outright lies.. we know the truth.. others will pressure us in all types of ways to think they have a better truth than the one we know.

they can even persuade us to think untrue things about ourselves.

Ok I Have A Question For All Of You!

when you were a dud (i call it 'dud' not dub..lol), ok how can i put this.....were you 'always on'?

meaning did you always have something to give to people or witness to them at 'every' opportunity or did you look at it as a 'job' where you only gave things out in service?

Even when I wholeheartedly believed it and was a pioneer, I never said anything about it outside of service. Honestly even with my dub friends, we never talked about it.

i'm re-reading 1984 and the similarities between the wtbs and the "party" astound me, but anyway, it made me think of the time when i started to get doubts (thoughtcrime).. i remember once at this book study a sister commented about the 1914 and was reciting it's historical accuracy.

anyway, she went on to mention that the demons were probably learning everything about biblical prophecies from the wtbs.

i was 13 at the time but the comment made me cringe, i was thinking "why would superior beings need humans to interpret the bible for them?

My first around that kind of stuff started with the generation thing like many others. Other suppressed thoughts include.

If what I pray for has to be inline with Jehoobahs will, why pray at all? Wasnt he planning on doing what he willed anyway? Was he just waiting to see if anyone had his back? "Hey God, I got you covered on this. You go ahead and do it."

If we have doctrinal thoughts that differ from the FDS and are then wrong, but later the FDS updates its line of bull and we are then right, did God really want everyone in the dark before?

I know I can come up with more if I think about it.

Hey All,

Thanks for the kind words and understanding. It took me a few days till I could even come back and look at this, I just needed to get my head back on straight really.

I know that every expierience in life shapes who you are as a person and as long as you like yourself, there had to have been some value to what you have done up until now. Sometime though it just feels like a day where you've over slept and wasted the day and you know that if you would have just been awake when you should have been, you could have accomplished so much more.

Thanks again for the encouragement. Throwing a pity party for myself really isnt my style, but the last couple of weeks have been kind of hard, so Im very thankful that I have a place to vent, even if I never actually get to meet the people Im spilling my guts to.

How can anyone understand?

I have a question that not many people would understand. I have faith that despite how crazy it sounds, most on this board will probably know what I am talking about though.

I'm on the path to leaving this cult that has been a part of my life for more than 27 years. At age 30 that means that I have been involved with the jw's for 90% of my life. Considering I have virtually no memories from the other 3 years of my life, it wouldnt be exagerating to say that I have known nothing else. Suffice it to say, there is much that I have missed out on and not done.

While I can sit here and name pages of things that I didnt do that I regret, the biggest thing are the human relationships that I wasnt allowed to have and didnt allow myself to have.

As a kid, I missed out on a lot because of the friends I wasnt allowed to have and the things I wasnt allowed to do.

What I really regret however, were the relationships that I didnt have as an adult. Now that I am finally ready to enter the real world, there is so much that I just dont know how to explain. How can I expect anyone who isnt an ex-jw or an cult exit counsellor to understand how much this goofy religion has affected me.

For example here are a few things that strike me as particularly odd, should I try to explain them to anyone.

I didnt lose my virginity until 23 and have had sex a handfull of times in the last seven years because I was concerned about some invisible old man in the sky who cared where I put my cock.

and another..

I have been on about 6 dates in the last 4 years and have never tried to pursue a relationship in any of that time because my faith in God was wavering and I didnt want to get involved with some poor witness girl under the pretense that I actually believed what was in the bible.... and I could hardly get involved with a "worldly" girl because of the consequenses of that.

and another...

I cant actually tell any of this to anyone I know because I would then be an outcast to everyone that I know or love..

How can I even start to live life in the real world?

A Demon Haunted World

someone just recently posted the name of a book, i believe it was called 'a demon haunted world" .

i went to amazon, and the author they have is carl sagon.. is the correct book?

or is there a lesser known writer who wrote another book?

I just finished "Have you seen my mother" and was getting ready to start on this one tomorrow. Glad to hear its a good book.

I've read some pretty imaginative Fairy Tales but....

i must say the bible takes to prize, they are pretty creative, i mean a snake that is a devil talking to a naked woman trying to make her eat fruit, or how about a man who gets his strength through his hair (sampson i think) and an evil woman tricks him and cuts it off, anyone else feel like the bible is a good bedtime story, but now they left the borg find it hard to believe??

I've read and studied a lot of mythology and now just view the bible as jewish mythology. It's kind of funny though, when it comes down to it, the bible stories are rather boring in comparison. I think thats why the bible has held up though and why people still believe it.

I've had the exact same thought. It retains some credibility just because it isnt as far out there as some mythology.
