i'm off to new york this morning.
i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.
she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.
(((((( Brenda )))))) Very sorry to hear this. Know you and yours are in my thoughts. I've been there and done that not long ago - let me know if there's anything I can do.

last saturday we went to get claire's duroc.
3rd in his division at the breeders competition that.
same night, and we took him home after that.
It's great that she's doing this, Valis. It's a really good program, and she'll get alot out of it. Whether or not she's involved in agriculture in the future, she'll take away many good experiences. Responsibility, leadership, people skills, it's all part of the game.
I and most of my family came up through the 4-H and FFA programs, as did my wife, and her family. Of course Clay (age 10) is showing cattle, has since he was 7 (showed some sheep, too). You can't show in the state shows here 'til you're 9, I'm pretty sure it's the same in Texas and prob'ly most other places, so we're just good and getting started. So far we've just been feeding decent ones, still selling the best ones, 'til he gets a little experience under his belt. He's about ready, though, and you can imagine how well Dad likes gettin' beat, so we're ready to get serious, now.
<--- Note the pic - Clay's 1st place prospect steer at last years state fair. He had to set that one out this year due to a broken arm (from the playground, not from the cattle).
I hope your daughter gets the same enjoyment and experiences from it. Maybe we'll get to see her show at Fort Worth one of these days.

ok, i have an important announcement.
my wife will verify this is important.
there was once four different restaurants on our 'side of the bridge' where i could get mexican food.
Jst, congratulations. It's kinda like finding treasure, huh?
((( Xena ))) Soy sauce??? You have my condolences.
Shutterbug said " Don't eat Tex-Mex outside of Texas, Oklahoma or New Mexico" I'd say amen to that...I've never tried Caifornia, but I have tried lots of other places. There are some good ones other places, I guess, but they're not easy to find.
BTW Bug, speaking of barbecue, how 'bout Cattle Call in Amarillo? I like it.

things have calmed down again with my mother to the point where i found myself once again in her kitchen last night.
drinking too many cups of coffee as i always do at her house, i imagine if i were a smoker i'd have been lighting one cigarette after another instead.
it had been a pleasant enough evening, i sat there with my crocheting in my lap, something i always take with me to my mother's house so that if i get nervous or stressed out, my hands, and my mind, have something to do and somewhere to go.
(((((((((( Essie )))))))))) I know how hard suicide can hit you...especially when you feel that you could've maybe helped, if you'd only known.
Love ya,sis,

seen this on richmond va paper....i thought tied in with stinkypants post..but didn't wanna distract from it....opinions on the story?.
" What most people call a redneck ain't nothin' but a workin' man / who makes his livin' by the sweat of his brow and the callouses on his hands / Now you intellectuals may not like it,but there ain't nothin' you can do / cause there's a whole lot more of us common folks than there ever will be of you...../ What this world needs is a few more rednecks / some people not afraid to make a stand / What this world needs is a little more respect / for the Lord and the law and the workin' man / We could use a little peace and satisfaction / Some good people up front to take the lead / A little less talk and a little more action / and a few more rednecks is what we need "

i don't understand the logic of boycotting the dixie chicks because of the comments the singer made about being ashamed that bush is from texas.
it doesn't make sense to me.
keep in mind that i'm just a canadian, so maybe i'm just not tuned in to the american way of thinking.
I don't agree with what Natalie said....But it's her right to say so,just like it's our freedom to discuss it or to listen to their music or not.Just remember who's defending those freedoms for us.

hi folks,.
i haven't had time to post much lately but do check in to see what has been posted.. my soon to be 85 year old mom is facing surgery to replace her wore out knees.
they are both shot so i don't know if they'll try to do both at once while she's out or do one at a time.
Sadie, and everyone else caring for elderly parents, bless you...I was there with both of my parents before they passed away.I know how hard it is,especially when all the effort falls on one or two people, but there are 50 busy telling them how they should do it.
Just wanted to add a couple of comments.Get lots of official (notarized) copies of the D.P.A. and keep them handy. With them you will be able to take care of business, and you're priveleged to any information pertaining to them. Also, hard as it is to think about, please be sure that you have an advance directive, stating their wishes as to life support,etc...Also a DNR (do not recusitate (sp?) ) if that's the person's wish.Otherwise,as power of attorney, these decisions will fall completely on you,and that's alot of stress. Also it's best,in case other family members disagree as to what course the care should take.
Hope all goes well for you.
