I usually sit near the front and I'm not gungho - need to refine the theory a bit. It's the only way people will see me. Otherwise I'd be totally invisible to the congregation.

Where did you sit at the Kingdom Hall?
by truthseeker ini always preferred the back of the hall.
here, i could go to sleep, read the latest awake!
if you're at either end of the middle row of seats, you can see who has studied their watchtower and who hasn't.

WTS Reason for Not Missing Meetings?
by ICBehindtheCurtain inthis is regarding the january watchtower article that is on another thread, which is about avoiding missing meetings for work, i posted this under that thread but thought i might begin a new topic to get your views on this:
it's really enfuriating, that they keep putting out this bs, i know firsthand of many r&f that either quit jobs or did not accept jobs that would compromise meeting attendance all the while their families were in need, the brainwashed mentality was "if we put jehovah first wts first, jehovah will provide", yeah right, as someone else mentioned what about when the car breaks down, or a child gets sick, etc?
then they are pretty much up the creak without a paddle.

I thought I read somewhere on this board that the old timers at Bethel intentionally want JW's to live a busy life full of theocratic activity to keep them out of trouble.

IS THE WORLD REALLY GETTING WORSE?
by ruari inhi guys,.
my name is ruari phillips, i'm 21 years old and if possible...i'd like to ask a question.. jehovahs witnesses believe the world is getting worse and that as time passes we are approaching armageddon.. but, haven't we always lived in a cruel world?.
since the begginning of time we've been killing each other, there's been diseases, death and destruction.

I think I just got the total experience
by La Capra ini tried to go to walmart this morning.. this story's origin began last april, when, just days before my final exams, my gateway laptop went nuts.
as a third year law student, having taken her exams for the the entire duration on computer, the notion of changing my exam approach to bluebook was out of the question.. i was able to obtain, for the short term, another laptop and survived third year just fine.. however, it took three rounds of repairs to get my computer back in working order for more than three weeks (gateway kept replacing the hard drive, but it was the motherboard that was failing-good news was that they only charged me for one disk drive, and not for the mother board eventually installed.).
and i am not the kind of person that feels comfortable with the "what ifs" so when about a few days ago, my gateway laptop went to a screen that i only saw before each of the three prior "deaths," i decided that my peace of mind was worth many hundreds of dollars and decided to get a "backup" laptop, considering i have two more rounds of exams and the bar exam through which i need a reliable computer.. i tried to order the sub-500 dell, but it wouldn't arrive in time for december's exams, so i started looking at the other offers out and about.. that meant i actually had to go to a brick and mortar establishment so i would have a computer in hand, rather than in some shipping queue.. i am not much of a consumer.

Weekly Bible Reading, Nov. 28 - Dec. 4, 2005
by TheListener in2 chronicles 6:1-42 1 it was then that sol omon said: jehovah himself said he was to reside in the thick gloom; 2 and i, for my part, have built a house of lofty abode for you and an established place for you to dwell in to time indefinite.
13 (for sol omon had made a platform of copper and then put it in the middle of the enclosure.
its length was five cubits, and its width five cubits, and its height three cubits; and he kept standing upon it.

From this passage, it seems like Solomon and the Queen had an emotionally intimate relationship. We know where that can lead....

Why did Jesus have to die?
by ghostbuster ini disassociated myself from jws about 20 years ago so i'm a bit rusty on christian teaching.
the intersting thing though is i hadn't completely disassociated my mind from their teachings and it's only been recently that i've had true independent thought.
it's scary if you think about it.

Did you gain anything, for being a JW all those years?

The traits of discipline, self-control, the idea to do all things for God's glory has helped me to keep a job while annual layoffs occur around me.
The idea that Satan controls the world -including the government and business - has helped me to cope with understanding the evil in the world.
The courage to defend unpopular convictions.
I learned to be comfortable and even celebrate my uniqueness - cuz let's face it, JWs are different.
