It seems to me that a large majority of jw's believe that this is God's organization because they read all those experiences that are related in the Watchtower mags and in the yearbooks, and then conclude that those could not have taken place without divine intervention. Not to mention all of the experiences that are related at assembly programs and district conventions. Are the experiences true? Some of the ones that I have read and heard over the years are down right remarkable! If they are true, doesn't that give validity to the WT claim that God is with them? It is easy to lean toward the assumption that many of these experiences are embellishments and/or outright lies....but what if they are not?
ec
P.S.- I am not pro WT...I have personally experienced the harm that this organization has caused. That withstanding, anyone care to give their take on this?

The best way to judge the morale of a congregation / JWs in general?
by sir82 ini think the best way to measure how enthusiastic the publishers are is...the number of auxiliary pioneers, especially when there is a "big push" for such.. in any sufficently large population (such as jws), there's always going to be a core of "true believers".
in the jw world, these are the regular pioneers - devoted enough to put their lives on hold & financial security at risk to spend 70 or more hours per month knocking on empty houses & leaving magazines at laundromats & with hapless gas-pumpers.. likewise, there's going to be a group of less active ones, who are in it mainly for social reasons, or because their parents are forcing them.
these ones typically have the stigma of being "low hour publishers" or "spirtually weak" or (horrors!

The congregation where I attend has 140 publishers. How many signed up for aux. pioneering so far? 15. Is that a good or bad number? To me it seems that those who do aux. pioneer do it because it is the "right thing" to do. I don't see much added joy on these people's faces not to mention the looks on the faces of the reg. pioneers. Just a bunch of people going thru the motions and wanting to appear more spiritual than everyone else!

They question/analyze everything- except the Watchtower
by OnTheWayOut inmany of you were probably the type to question everything or analyze everything, yet .
just accept whatever the wts says.

My wife refuses to listen to any critical talk about the "slave". I realize that she suffers from a combination of being in fear of the real truth and being comfortable where she is right now. She makes comments from time to time about how the friends are so unkind and distant, but when I try to show her that the problem is not a local one alone, but starts from the organizational top....she shuts down.
Damn this cult!!!! Damn it!!

Anyone Remember the "Vet" in Philadelphia?
by Medic!? indoes anyone remember attending those horrid dc's in philadephia, pa at the old vet?
i remember the awful dread as the elders would so excitedly announce the upcoming dates.
does anyone remember how they urged us to "calmly line up to view the hotel list" because there were plenty of hotels (roachholes) and if this one sold out, that a new list would be put together?

"The Vet" in Philly and Yankee Stadium in NY were pretty bad, but in my opinion, the worst locale for a DC in the northeast was Giant's Stadium in New Jersey. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of visiting the Meadowlands a.k.a. the swamp, knows what I am talking about. Scorching heat, downpours of rain, all in a completely open stadium! Those were the days!!!

A reminder on Shunning family members again in the January 15th Watchtower!
by Gill injanuary 15th watchtower 2007 'remaining steadfast when a child rebels'.
'when discipline is severe'.
'if your child is unrepentant and is a baptized christian, he may receive the strongest form of discipline - being disfellowhipped from the congregation.

Mary,
I share your outrage at this utter garbage that Brooklyn Bethel continues to print, but the reason they keep printing this stuff is because there are people who will continue to read it and believe it(my wife included). They have a captive audience that has shut down a major part of their brains and who suck all of the wts' bs right down.

The Governing Body said it ... are you ready !!!!!!!!!!!!
by run dont walk ini was at a funeral this weekend, the first time i'd been in a kingdom hall in 13 years, the talk was short about a half hour, and all jw stuff as expected, but the one part of the talk made me laugh, the speaker said :.
"we (a group of elders), had the oppourtunity to speak with a member of the governing body at the assembly, and he said : "we the governing body are confident that armageddon is close, and are ready for jehovah's day, are you ready ???"".
i couldn't believe my ears, they will never learn.

Run Don't Walk,
My mother in law has a saying similar to your "higher up the ladder" remark. It goes......
The higher a monkey climbs, the more you can see of his a**!!!
I think that just about accurately describes those bastards at Bethel!!

Racism in the Jehovah Witness Watchtower
by fokyc inhttp://www.progressiveu.org/161523-racism-in-the-jehovah-witness-watchtower.
"watchtower society members claim to be different and better than the worldly people that they refer to as bird food.
society members refer to non-witnesses as bird food because they look forward to the time when the birds will feast on the flesh of dead non-witnesses after armageddon.

Check out this tale of three elders in the congregation I attend,
Elder 1- Is a married Bethelitte who has taken an interest in a divorced mother of two. He regularly goes to her house alone to visit her and "encourage" her. He makes comments about her body and clothing that are out of line to all who have heard them. Several dubs have complained to the p.o. about this situation, but the brother remained and elder and recently moved to a foreign language cong.
Elder 2- Is a single brother who has taken to flirting with a sister who is seperated from her husband but unable to scripturally divorce. He drives her and her alone, home after meetings and they exchange phonecalls in the wee hours of the morning. Complaints about this elder have fallen on deaf ears also and he remains in his position.
Elder 3- Is a widowed brother who took a trip out of the country for a few weeks. When he returned(I guess due to a troubled conscience), he told the elder body that while he was away he stayed at the house of a female friend that he had known since childhood. He insisted that nothing improper took place but that he knew that what he had done was a serious error in judgement. He was deleted in two weeks!!!
My point? Which elder do you think was Black?

Elders Visits
by Jobees inone thing that i hear regularly is that once an individual is d-effed they are visited once a year by elders to see where they stand.
in 8 years i have not had one visit, and they know where i live.
is this how the elders are supposed to be?
-
enlightenedcynic
The real reason why most of you have never gotten a visit is because the majority of elders are overwhelmed with their own circumstances and simply don't have the time or energy to make visits. In the KH that I presently attend it is not uncommon to hear complaints from the r&f of not having had a visit in months or even years. Now if that is how they treat the ACTIVE dub, well you figure the rest!

All of the families I see where the husband holds a position are struggling. A very good friend of mine who is an elder with a wife and two children looks like he is 45 years old when in fact he and I are both 32! Whenever he sees me he always marvels at how "fresh" I look and how I don't look like a father of two kids. Well, I am not a m/s or elder nor do I want to be despite the elders attempts to get me to "reach out" for further service. How about.....NO!!

Oh.....how could I forget to tell you about this one brother who was talking about, of course, the dangers of the internet and who came up with this analogy.....when a person is surfing online they have to use a mouse to point and click, well what is a close relative to a mouse....yes, a RAT and what do rats like? Yes...GARBAGE! So be careful when you go online that your rodent friend doesn't take you to some garbage.(In my mind I was like yeah, garbage like the official WTS website).
